A rather surprising film
latinfineart13 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This was quite a nice little film. It was very well written, which is a very pleasant surprise in this day and age. I just don't see that many films that seem to be written for adults, good dialogue, some very nice sequences, some great little exchanges between ordinary folks.

I thought it was a little bit heavy on the unfaithful husband guilt trip, part of the story. My guess is his philandering had a lot to do with the low ratings of this movie. In general Americans are not very tolerant of the idea that a man is not completely emasculated and utterly faithful.

But rather than preach about that I will just say that it's a good film, well-made, good cinematography, tightly directed and I definitely say it is worth the watch.

A buddy movie that appeals to men and women
mdlewis-760469 October 2020
I loved this movie. The actors were first rate. After I watched it I had to research what other films they were in. The scenery was gorgeous. Made me want to head to CA and drive the Pacific Coast Highway. But best of all the plot rang true. Successful Wes is wondering if this is all life holds for him. And his buddy Luke is in a professional and emotional slump. Who hasn't felt either or both of these emotions in their 30's. A buddy movie that will appeal to both men and women.

A little closer to real people
leland-mckeithan20 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Good men are liars. Not all careers work out. Friends get depressed and don't call you back. This is not a romcom. The characters are a little closer to real people. It's nice that almost all the characters in this movie besides the mains are women. And they are all forces to be reckoned with and move the boys forward. Only complaint: wish they had avoided the stereotype "tattooed people are bad people".

Very White

Im half an hour in, I think I have seen one person of color. I guess "beautifully shot" is code for completely devoid of what California actually looks like.

Not even slightly charming. The main actors are attractive......that's about it.
pdxsue12 October 2021
I watched this because of the title. I like to watch film where Portland is part of the character, and also to be a detective to locate where the different scenes are filmed. The last few minutes could have been any where in the world. I'm going to put myself out there and say that the film makers had a really good time along highway 101. By the time they got to Portland they just wanted to go home.

I really have no feeling about this movie. It's not too boring but not funny and not worth watching as well. It's a mediocre production n tons of review here rate so up about this movie.

She's In Portland is a Fun Ride
randyerwin-4056425 September 2020
I loved this film. It's funny. It's touching. It's an awesome road trip movie with the very best cinematography of the Pacific Coast I have ever seen. It's just a fun film that I could watch again and again.

This movie is loaded with up-and-coming stars. It had really great music. I loved the performances from all the primary actors. To me, the script ran very true-to-life. I felt like I could identify with all the characters and their respective motivations.

I also absolutely loved one particular scene in the movie, where the two main guys in the film have an impromptu dinner with two ladies a few years older (and wiser) than them. This scene stood out as particularly insightful to me. In the end, it's just a four people talking. But Director Marc Carlini took his time with this scene, and with some really great acting and an awesome script, he got the best on-screen discussion of the meaning of life that I can recall seeing. I would strongly recommend this film for this scene alone.

In terms of what you might compare this movie to, Sideways is the closest comparable I can think of. I loved that film, too. Though this film is similar in that it's two very different guys who are friends going on a road-trip with sometimes funny drama ensuing, this film is not trying to be like Sideways. She's in Portland is its own story. It also has a younger and hipper vibe than Sideways had. Nonetheless, they are similar films, and I'm sure I won't be the only one making this comparison.

Overall: Great film! 10 out of 10.

2 writers that shouldn't have
SelenetheHunter12 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It's like an old mans midlife crisis.... Like at first this trip is to make his buddy reconnect with a girlfriend.... But then we find out the main man is a complete pos and regrets everything in his life but his kid.... And the buddy fesses up to not even dating "the one" in the first place. It's long and drug out, I can't even say great scenery because so little of it was actually focused on.

Definitely do NOT suggest.

Beautifully Shot Movie
MZan9925 September 2020
Road trip movie after being stuck inside for months. Count me in. This movie had gorgeous cinematography. Doesn't look like it was made on an indie film budget. Tommy and Francois have a great dynamic. I want to buy that Bronco!

Catchy Title
bearcrkrd12 July 2021
Lifetime PNW'er, so the title caught my eye, then the short synopsis seemed promising. Really liked the filming locations, would have liked to have seen them even more than we did. For those reasons i found it was watchable. Not trying to be mean or negative, but you do not have to look too hard to find a better movie.

Screw family and responsibility because yolo
mister_bateman2 October 2020
This movie is a good reflection of the state of our society. Men don't want to grow up and take responsibility. (Of course women are by no means innocent either but this movie is about men.) Everything is about seeking pleasure or being afraid of missing out on pleasure, because hashtag yolo. But the movie doesn't condemn this, or gives a better message. No, it makes excuses for that kind of behavior. This guy has a beautiful woman who wants his children, but he decides to throw it away because he feels trapped or whatever. Stupid.

A good watch.
iamgazz15 February 2021
This is not a comedy so it has been wrongly categorised, but I really loved this movie. Very relatable characters, beautiful cinematography and a plot that many of us can relate to. Perhaps a younger audience might not appreciate it as much since they haven't got the life experiences that these guys have which make them relatable to the over 30's in the audience. Definitely worth a watch.

Don't Believe The Anti-Hype.
Kurt_Bludgeon8 January 2021
What do you want from a "movie?" This one has fantastic cinematography, handsome leads, the road-movie premise, intelligent writing, problems hidden-identified-dealt with-explained - loose ends left, a sucker punch of an ending for any old romantics around! A really well thought out look at love, commitment, marriage, infatuation, relationships, children and friendship. Cannot believe the negative reviews - OK so the leads are contrasting and insanely handsome, the people they meet are very much on point and on-message - but remember folks - this is a film!!!!!! I loved it and I cared about these people!

Great scenery, horrendous acting
PaxtonMalloy27 April 2021
If you looking to do a road trip on the west coast and want to see how that could look this is the movie for your. Otherwise skip it.

The camerawork is great and from there it is all downhill. The acting of both lead characters is so bad that it is cringe worthy at times. The film always get's better when other characters, all women, are with these two men. All the women deliver good performances but unfortunately were are spending time with two main characters that have no chemistry at all and the script fails to give as any reason why these both are actually friends. We never get why we should root for them. Tommy Dewey also is just miscast. He always looks a little devious so he never fits into that character he is supposed to be.

Don't believe all the 10's
mcooknoe10 August 2021
This movie... ok, to be fair.... The story and the way the story is told.... are terrible! The acting, particularly some of the acting, is really good and there are some beautifully shot scenes... and if you've ever road tripped, you might experience 1 nostalgic moment. But other than that, this movie leaves you with nothing else... except maybe a feeling you just wasted time you'll never get back.

A Must Watch!
betsyroberts-6025925 September 2020
Best movie I've seen in a long time! The epic journey of two college pals has many twists and turns along the way. Incredible story line, hits a little too close to home for most of us! Spectacular backdrop of Highway 1 and the California coast.

If you want to watch a couple of hours of a ruch guy struggling with the stress if staying faithful to his beautiful caring mother of their two year old then this is for you.
charleyrosemason16 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I am concerned the writers think this character is relatable or that anyone would have any empathy for his privileged entitled unlikable ass. If my husband wrote this character I would leave him. Also very confusing when it us mentioned he married at 19 amd then that he gad been married for 7 years. The actor is by far not a 26 year old and this is very disorientation. So much time is spent on the "struggle" of this character when there is no struggle just a complete narcissist with not one negative presented except a rich cis white guy who doesn't want to commit to his amazing wife and is portrayed as trapped and miserable. His kid is 2. Grow up. No one has aby sympathy for this character. I was waiting fir character development, self awareness or redemption that never came. What a waste if time. Don't waste yours.

Took me back to my first road trip in California after University. Stunning scenery, music on point. I think you need to have lived a little to appreciate the storyline. I loved it. I felt like I was on the journey myself. Wish they has more films!!

What a great road trip film! Really hit home, great believable characters, fun times, sad times, stomach churning times. It had it all. Beautiful scenery. Hit very close to home for many of us, I feel, but that's what makes it such a good movie. Must see for any person going through a mid life!

I was blown away with how beautiful the scenes were!! The movie is a classic travel buddy movie, but it has a twist in the end that surprisingly made sense why they went on a road trip. Overall a great story and movie!
