Written by Brian Augustyn and Mike Mignola, Gotham by Gaslight is considered to be the first DC Elseworlds story, which was lauded following its alternate take on the Batman mythos. Set in the Victorian era, the story follows Batman’s quest to apprehend Jack the Ripper, based on the infamous real-life serial killer, and the story was finally adapted into an animated feature in 2018.
However, the animated feature didn’t see Kevin Conroy return to voice the caped crusader, and per Bruce Timm, it was due to marketing reasons.

Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part One is, the first part of a trilogy adapting one of the major milestones in the history of DC Comics and ending the “Tomorrowverse” series of movies. For those unfamiliar with it, Crisis on Infinite Earths was a comic book crossover original published from 1985 to 1986 as a 12-issue limited series, with events spilling over into other comics. It was written by Marv Wolfman and drawn by George Pérez, to whom this adaptation is dedicated. When I read that Mike Flanagan was planning to turn The Fall of the House of Usher into an eight-hour mini-series for Netflix I did a major double take. I’ve read the story, and I’ve seen an astounding number of takes on it, from Roger Corman’s classic to reimaginings like The Fall of Usher and Lady Usher. But there was no possible way I could see someone getting eight hours of material out of it.
And I was right, rather than an adaptation of one story The Fall of the House of Usher is an adaptation of Poe’s works en masse with Roderick and his sister Madeline Usher reinvented as heads of a Sackler like pharmaceutical empire.

Video games can break your heart. It is a business built on creativity, scheduling, manpower, collaboration, and customer demand. Not everything works out. A company can have a brilliant concept and all the talent, but due to a few bad decisions or lack of funds, it could come out as a husk of what it was meant to be.
At least those failed games get to hit the shelf, though. Some dreams lead to dead ends. Amazing game designs never see the light of day for one reason or another. Maybe you have an interesting idea for a Mario spinoff that Nintendo shoots down. Maybe you put work into a game based on a popular movie that the higher-ups decide is not economically viable. Maybe your violent fighting game is nixed because the people you work for are bought out by another company who do not agree with your vision.

During the early 90s, DC Comics launched the Elseworlds publication, along with trademarking the very word itself, and the storylines became extremely popular due to their interesting proposition of testing beloved characters of the franchise in varied settings, contexts, and tropes. Later, the stories were incorporated into the larger DC multiverse, but the distinctively unique takes were engaging enough as standalone stories to begin with. In recent years, as part of DC animated movie adaptations, we have seen some of these in Batman: Gotham by Gaslight, The Doom That Came To Gotham and Superman: Red Son, and they arguably fare better than the prime continuity animated universe.
Taking a page from that book, the recently released DC animated interconnected universe continuity, aka Tomorrowverse adaptation Justice League: Warworld, offers a chance to explore the Elseworlds storyline in the mainstream universe. Warworld is a setting of importance in DC lore, a planet-like...

The Caped Crusader is not just one of the most iconic DC Comics characters of all time, he’s also one of the most prominent figures in the last few decades of blockbuster cinema. DC's latest straight-to-dvd animated movie is here, and it's the classic one-off Elseworld's tale Batman: Gotham By Gaslight. Drawn by Hellboy's Mike Mignola and written by Brian Augustyn, Gotham By Gaslight told the tale of how Batman beat up and solved the Jack the Ripper case. I mean, I don't know why people say it's unsolved. Anyway, while the animation looks solid, it does unfortunately pale in comparison to... Read More...

With a trailer to give fans a look at the upcoming Elseworlds animated Batman adventure, WB Animation has announced when fans will be able to get the Gotham By Gaslight blu-ray, along with all the special features coming with it. Come inside for all the details!
DC's Animated films are almost always a lot of fun to watch. Some of my favorites, however, are the ones that eschew the Animated Universe continuinty in favor of something different (like Gods and Monsters). As such, I'm really excited to see how Batman: Gotham By Gaslight turns out. It sees a different Batman take on Jack the Ripper in a turn of the century Gotham.
It's a neat concept, and worked great in the comics. Let's just hope the same magic works in the animated film when it releases on February 6, 2018:

Each year, the fine folks at Warner Bros. Animation serve up a handful of films based on DC properties and, more often than not, they knock it out of the park. Not only that, but a significant portion of the fanbase argues that they’re superior to what’s offered in the live action realm. And, to be completely honest, I have to concede in most cases.
Having said that, the trend looks to continue in 2018 with Batman: Gotham by Gaslight leading the charge. First revealed to us via a sneak peek included on the Batman and Harley Quinn Blu-ray release, it boasts a Dark Knight unlike anything we’ve seen outside of the comic books.
For those unfamiliar, Gotham by Gaslight was originally published in 1989 and ended up starting the “Elseworlds” line of books. Written by Brian Augustyn and drawn by Mike Mignola, it followed the exploits of a Batman residing in the 1800’s,...

Sneak Peek more new footage from DC Entertainment's animated feature "Batman: Gotham By Gaslight", adapting the 1991 comic book one-shot by Brian Augustyn and Mike Mignola ("Hellboy"), as part of an 'Elseworlds' series of dramatic adventures for the 'Caped Crusader':
"...in the year 1889, 'Bruce Wayne' is on a tour of Europe. His trip to Europe ends in Vienna, where he has come to learn from 'Dr. Freud'.
"Bruce tells Freud that he has a recurring dream in which he recalls the murder of his parents and decides he must return to 'Gotham City'.
"Shortly after arriving, 'Inspector Gordon' informs Wayne about criminal gangs currently operating in Gotham. Gordon also shows Bruce the case of a man who poisoned his wife and tried to commit suicide with the poison, which left him alive with a permanent grin.
"Bruce takes up the mantle of 'Batman' to fight criminals on the street.

DC Entertainment has released a new trailer for their upcoming animated feature, Batman: Gotham By Gaslight.
The story is set in the 1800s and it pitted the Dark Knight against the legendary serial killer Jack the Ripper and a death-dealer from the skies over Gotham. The film is an adaption of the popular 1989 comic that introduced the Victorian Era version of The Dark Knight. I remember reading this comic for the first time. It was really quite intriguing at the time. I loved the concept of a Victorian era Batman facing off with Jack the Ripper! The comic was written by Brian Augustyn and drawn by Mike Mignola (Hellboy). Here's the synopsis that was released:
In an age of mystery and superstition, how would the people of Gotham react to a weird creature of the night, a bat-garbed vigilante feared by the guilty and the innocent alike? The very first...
