This series is almost as stupid as its protagonist… but it is a lot of fun!
Tweekums26 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This series tells the story of Yoshiko Hanabatake, a truly stupid high school girl. She routinely gets zeroes for her school work and is no smarter in social situations; she also loves bananas. She is often to be seen with Akuru Akutsu, a studious classmate who is also her neighbour… despite being her thinking of him as a friend he is often so annoyed with her stupidity that he hits her.

It must be said that this series is pretty silly but it is also a lot of fun. Yoshiko is the sort of person who would be infuriating in real life but is hilarious in twelve minute animated doses! Her antics are funny and the supporting cast are pretty entertaining as well. Some may object to how often Akuru punches Yoshiko but it is done in a comically over the top manner with her flying through the air then being fully recovered seconds later. Overall I'd recommend this to anybody wanting a good silly laugh; it was certainly better than I expected.

These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.

Really funny, my jaws were nearly broken from laughing!

Warning: Spoilers
I mean seriously if you are peed off with life at the moment, let Yoshiko help you lol! Even if she is considered an "idiot", she would make you laugh at your hardest! As reviewer ifcclan said, it is maddening that Yoshiko never gets mad at Akuru for constantly always hitting her whenever she makes a "dumb" remark. I always loved how she's constantly grinding his gears every time he does something and she shows up annoying him. I just think that's so cute and funny when she tries to torture him! Now in reality, it would be considered creepy and over the top but it's good for this kind of anime to get the hype going!

Although I would be pretty annoyed with the zero marks if it ever happened to me at school, however Yoshiko is always positive, free-spirited, hyper and just really out there regardless if she does always fail her tests. I mean honestly, not everyone is academic so I can't say I blame her, she pretty much is the same as the rest of us, tests do suck and we aren't always good at some subjects lol. I'm glad to see she's even healthy with all the bananas that she wishes to eat.

I do wish that both her and Akuru did become a couple even if he hates her guts, they really would be cute together. This anime actually reminds me of "Pucca" in a way except Yoshiko is a lot chattier lol!

I give nothing but praise for this anime, it made me laugh out loud and pretty much it surprisingly made me a lot happier throughout the day! I'll give it 8/10 for its humour and having a underrated clever protagonist!

Patrick Star anthropomorphized
Mysterygeneration16 January 2024
Aho Girl: What is she? What makes Aho girl not? Is it even worth watching this anime? Sincerely, Aho Girl (Idiot Girl) is a slapstick-heavy classic boke and tsukkomi comedy. This show is absolutely for you if all you want to do is laugh uncontrollably and switch off your brain. Never before have I seen anime with such brutality. The cruelty is utterly savage. It is just one joke after another. One of the best 15 minute ab workout ever. Though they will despise you, your sides will appreciate you.

This is the kind of traditional yin-yang anime where the plot and the characters are meant to complement one another. One cannot survive apart from the other. The main characters are Yoshiko, a masochist fool beyond comprehension, and her childhood crush, A-Kun, a brilliant sadist beyond comprehension. However, as the anime progresses, many other characters are added. A-Kun mercilessly beats Yoshiko's eccentricities down to bring the situation back to normal whenever they reach their pinnacle. This quid pro quo interchange is what adds so much humor to this anime. Even if Yoshiko's stupidity has caused her a lot of hardship, viewers may still feel sorry for her. But in actuality, she's just Patrick Star anthropomorphized and genderbent.

Every episode is made up of a few quick jokes. Needless to say, even though you know the MC will pull off some type of ridiculous act, each joke stays original even though it occasionally recycles a running joke. As the show progresses, a variety of supporting characters are introduced to us, including Kuudere Dumb Sister, Tsundere Lewd President, Yandere Killer Mom, and Overtly Charismatic Doge. They seem intelligent at first, but as the show progresses, everyone but A-kun gradually turns into a moron. A common fan theory among serious manga readers holds that A-Kun is solely to blame. He drains the intelligence from everyone in his vicinity. Everybody who enters loses at least fifty points of IQ due to his 20-foot radius.

This anime is totally Banana
phanthinga11 March 2019
I absolutely hate the kind of dumb and annoying character for the sake of comedy in anime trope but somehow in Aho Girl an anime that title literally translate from Japanese into English called Stupid Girl the main character Yoshiko AKA the dumbest and most annoying character that I've ever come across in a long time make me smile this much. Any sane person that Yoshiko run into all slowly become like her and reveal their true colors and for a 12 episode and 12 minutes runtime for each ep that long running gag about how she love banana and how A-kun her best/worst childhood freind always feel the need drop kick her( for the good reason) never fail to impress me.

A Must Watch for Comedy Lovers
ifcclan3 September 2017
I am at a loss that such a Masterpiece can be created. Anyone who is sad must watch it. You will be lost in some weird world till it finishes. I have only seen nine episodes. I can't wait for more to be aired. I loved the part about the dog. I also found it totally maddening the way he hits Yoshiko still she never gets mad at him. Yoshiko, Yoshiko's Mom, The Boobs President and don't know how many other girls desire him.

Unfunny

We men could be so vengeful at times. But with the existence of this anime, it is now easy to complete a revenge. All that you have to do is recommend this anime. They don't necessarily have to watch it. In case they do, that would be an outright mental torture.

The anime ain't funny at all. Yet, it really takes something to get rated as 1, right?

If you are curious why I have rated it as 1, then watch this anime.
