The best thing about this movie, no cussing and clean. The actors could be a little more exciting. Neat storyline about our country's history though.

Awful

Predictable plot with stilted acting. Resembled poor amateur theatre. Couldn't wait for it to end. Seven bucks down the drain.

how to make a great movie on low budget

There are no extravagfanca in thif touching the heart kind of movie, the theme is spun around a familys lumbering business, where the father dies all of a sudden, and the son of the house has to try to take over the business on behalf of his mother and siblings. he is doing it the hard way by going undercover and learn the trade among the lumberjacks in the snowy icecold environment of the lumbering season.

the film is very well crafted, its cast delivers an extremely brilliant performance, and i cant remember a movie where the maincat and extras have done such hard working labour as in this film, cutting trees with ax and twin saws, twigging the logs and transporting it all.its so darn real life like.

i must also turn the spotlight towards the musical score made for this feature film, it is of the classical type, but so well spunned into the story, and it makes the film get wings for itself, and makes place for you to join this ride of darn well made classic drama.

this may not be the first choice to many, but as my wife sai,'' this was entertainment on high levcel'', and ditto from the grumpy old man. this was a extremely nice surprise, so if you want to get reset back to the early years of the 1900's, then choose THE LUMBER BARON. its highly recommended

Wasn't impressed.

I was interested in watching this because turn of the century historical pieces are one of my favorite genre's. However, after getting into the movie a little bit, I was rolling my eyes at some of the conversations and found the screen writing to be horrible. The acting was sub par...some were better than others, however it was just a horrible screenplay with some horrible actors. I did notice the costumes and other settings to be interesting but this alone doesn't make a good entertaining film. I don't recommend it unless there is nothing else to watch, which in today's world, is impossible.

Captivating!

Going into this movie I knew it was a small production and prepared myself for it. It surpassed every expectation!

The tree cutting got a bit repetitive but that IS the main story so it's forgivable. The boy wasn't very good but a little cutie with those glasses!

Onto the good! The clothes were gorgeous and very time appropriate. The hair dos were authentic and beautiful, as well as the crazy mustache! Completely on point with the time setting! The director's camera angles really impressed me! There's even humor thrown in.

All round an excellent movie! I'd love to hear more on the story! I love period pieces!

Could have been so much more!

A great subject for a movie, but sadly the acting just wasn't up to scratch, the plot and storyline held a lot of promise, but the acting and pace is way way too slow to get you engaged in the storyline. The characters just lacked the lustre keep you engaged in the movie plot, it felt like amateur dramatics and low budget at best. The main character in reality would have gone through a massive culture shock to abandon his privileged lifestyle to rough it with the working men of his lumber company, but never looked like his blood pressure raised enough to lift an axe, but we are supposed to believe that he could suddenly use his arms that have never lifted anything heavier that quill to suddenly swinging an axe with the best of them... I'll say no more except, AVOID.

Interesting idea, but failed in the execution.

Warning: Spoilers
Looks of the time in regards to the production design and the costumes. The acting is not terrible for the most part but not great either.

What let me down was the stakes and the goal for the main character. The stakes that are set up are that the family lumbar business is going to fail now that the man of the house has passed away...and there's this really weird scene in the beginning where the protagonist goes to his then alive father for help? Or something, he says he needs an extra year, and then, unprovoked, the father mentions how bad his son's suggestions are to the family business, really shoe-horned in to set up the fact he will have to try and manage the business. It's a confusing scene to say the least, as to what it's actually about.

The other thing that bothers me is, the main character's goal. In the second act, he spends about 35 mins playing the role of a regular lumber man when he is actually the owner, that's cool, lots of potential and really interesting. The problem is, we the viewer never get to see or experience what he learned, be used in his overall goal to save the business much, now, he does fire the foreman, but the main act that really brings the business into fruition is something the main character learned in his Grandfather's notebook, to bargain. So, it really felt like the whole second act was really wasted to pad the run time, because it's really the negotiating deals he learns from the notebook that get the company back in profit....so...the act of being a lumberman feel kind of pointless.

The overall stakes of the family business going bust never felt imminent. There is a lot of talk about how things are and never really the visceral experience to back it up to make it compelling. The details of getting the business back on track are not compelling either, some letters get sent and some discount given to buyers, handshakes are made and boom, stakes overcome. Just a let down.

It was really a let down with the plot of him being a lumberman, I feel like there was potential there to take the plot in an interesting direction, but oh well. Not here.

Perfect Family Movie!

All family members can watch this and will probably be inspired to run a family business. (No need to worry about anything inappropriate.)
