As an ametuer prospector myself I am in awe of these guys. Anyone who thinks they don't know what they are doing doesn't know the first thing about prospecting. The survival aspect of the show I found to be extremely impressive. They do a hell of a lot better than those survival "experts" on the history channel's show 'alone' and not one of them claims any survival expertise.
The guy that complains that they stopped watching after 3 episodes and then complains they don't do any mining has no clue that later in the series all three prospectors achieve success. Give it a minute. The survival aspect to the show makes it clear how difficult what they were doing actually is.
If you are interested in prospecting... real prospecting, not to be confused with mining.... but prospecting.... then this show is a very accurate if concise view of what deep bush gold prospecting is actually like. If you want to see a bunch of rednecks stripping thousands of acres of wilderness to filter gold dust out of dirt with DC10s, dredges and huige sluices, then go watch gold rush (no offense gold rush fans, thats a good show too) but don't discount and bad mouth a good show about prospecting bercause you don't understand what prospecting is.

Interesting to see the different approaches of the 3 prospectors. On the one hand they have to survive, build shelter and shoot game, also they must prospect for and find gold. The need for both bush skills and gold field experience makes this must viewing for trainee gold prospectors. Time is running out as winter and the big freeze is closing in. Its closer to Alone than to Gold fever.

As a fan of Gold Rush, Bering Sea Gold, Aussie Gold Hunters, Gold Fever, Yukon Gold etc I was hoping for a decent gold prospecting & mining series. This unfortunately is absolute garbage, on a par with Fools Gold (anyone unfortunate enough to see that knows what I mean).
These don't appear to be gold prospectors. It feels like they're actors, and the only reason they do this is to make a trashy TV series. Try watching the first 2 or 3 episodes and see what you think.
The 2 original guys appear to find very rich ground, then inexplicably don't bother to mine it. They move on trying to shoot animals, build fires, build shelter etc. One of the original guys put his base camp on a river bank, a few inches above the water level. Obviously in real life no-one would do this, even an idiot.
The same guy later has to wade across a river for 2 or 3 minutes. He decides to spend hours building a floating bonfire to keep him warm during the crossing, and does the crossing stark naked. Again, obviously in real life you'd keep your flippin' underwear on, carry the fire materials across and light it on the other side! Mind you, in real life you'd be mining the gold-rich ground you'd already supposedly found.
I say 'supposedly' as it all looks made up. The gold appears extremely clean, like it's already been through a clean-up process before reappearing in these guys' pans.
After episode 3 I gave up. This is nothing to do with gold exploration at all. It's just extremely trashy, extremely rubbish TV. Shocked it was made for Discovery - I thought they were half decent. It smacks of free-to-air filler crap.
Hopefully one day one of the actors will tell the true story behind this series, once non-disclosure agreements have lapsed.

Even "Aussie Gold" was better because this is just plain bad. Six episodes about setting tents and complaining about everything?? Kidding me? Why didn't they show actually any gold mining? Guess these guys made enough money from the show that they didn't actually bother mine any gold....
Over Dramatic BS from Discovery

If you like scripted over dramatic BS acting as per normal from these sort of programs from Discovery channel , you'll like it.
The story is poor, you know they had to create drama where there was none. This is rubbish, you'll see, I would not pay to watch this crap. Can't give less than a 1 out of 10, or I would have. You have seen the other programs that try to make it look tough and scary, it drags on all the time like that, nobody is going home rich but Discovery, they must be so short of ideas, same on some other programs they make, this "is so dangerous" they say, but if you have had experience with machines like me, it just makes you laugh.
Devils Canyon is going down the plus hole like all crap. Programs like this piss me off, when whoever scripts this, can't make a desent job.

Extreme Gold Prospectors Doing Extreme Whining

I am an avid hobby prospector and like to visit remote locations to find gold. This show is a great premise but the majority of the finished episodes are filled with whining, complaining, temper tantrums and complete buffoonery buy 3 guys who really don't look like they know much about placer gold recovery. The bush-craft and survival skills displayed here are absurd. I don't think this crew has ever lived outdoors.
I have to wonder if the season's gold total was purchased on ebay and the whole thing is a fraud.
The upside is the beautiful country and the fact that each prospector is alone so we don't have to endure the constant cursing and bickering presented in the other gold mining reality shows. The producers could do much better.
