Frustratingly Incomplete

Warning: Spoilers
"Frink Gets Testy" is an episode of The Simpsons that ultimately falls short in its execution. While the premise of a test gone wrong and the subsequent chaos that ensues has potential for comedic gold, the episode fails to deliver on its promise. The humor falls flat, and the plot feels disjointed and unfocused.

One of the biggest missed opportunities in this episode is the storyline involving Ralph's test score. If the episode had delved deeper into why Ralph deserved the high score he received and explored the implications of Frink's flawed test, it could have been a standout episode. However, the episode instead takes a cheap route by attributing Ralph's score to a glitch in the test.

A very weak episode

Warning: Spoilers
A dull episode that just doesn't seem to go anywhere. The plot is all over the place, and in the end feels totally pointless. Example - you're lead to believe Ralph has some sort of intellectualism that Lisa doesn't. She spends the episode trying to find out, and at the end it is brushed off by Frink, who says there was an error in his test... Soooo.... what exactly was the point in the episode? Weak!

Enjoyable Episode, Albeit Never Completely delivering on its Potential,

Frink Gets Testy is a great Simpsons episode with a very well written plot and plenty of very funny scenes. There is gag after gag in this episode, plenty of laugh out loud moments for me, particularly from Professor Frink, it was refreshing to see a character who is rarely given the spotlight getting a lead role.

I love the concept of the episode, however, it actually felt too ambitious for twenty minutes, I could have seen it being a two parter, but instead it tries to cram this big idea, which ends up being their biggest downfall.

What it lacks in story in makes up for in humour. Funny and immensely enjoyable, Frink Gets Testy could have been better, but it is very fun.

Fearing Doomsday is coming, Mr. Burns gets Professor Frink to test everyone to see who's worth saving. The results are a major shock to the Simpsons family.

I know modern Simpsons is a shell of its former self but this is awful....

From start to finish this is about as unfunny as something trying to be funny can be. Professor Frink sings some aimless garbage song that hardly even makes sense let alone entertains.

Sooner they end the Simpsons the better.

A quick new episode, but still has the heart of classic Simpsons episodes.

Warning: Spoilers
This episode has the modern problems of poor pacing (it's 1 1/2 minutes shorter than Springfield Splendor), but I forgive it for that because of how true to life it was with PVQ tests and the heart that it had in it. There's just so much depth to the subjects of Frink Gets Testy and The D in Apartment 23 with which they do a lot in their stories, and so much happens in a slightly shorter time than usual in both cases. It's not just your intelligence that shows how important you are to save, it's also how good and caring of a person you are.

This episode makes lots of excellent points, like how there's always room for improvment, and PVQ tests can be wrong since Ralph was 1 point more valuable than Lisa until Frink gave Lisa 10 more points. I really loved how they wrote Marge in this episode because when Bart seemed to have the lowest PVQ score and then his results turned out to be mixed with Homer's, Marge never gave up on them, no matter how mean they have acted in past episodes. By the way, how does Abe yelling at Homer in his will show he still has faith in Homer?

I really loved this episode because Homer improved his handwriting to write love letters for Marge and possibly improve his PVQ, since I always thought he was the villain in The Simpsons Movie until he saved everyone's lives from Russ Cargill. The only problem I have with this episode is that Mr. Burns only wanted to take the most valuable people on his ark to be his slaves. It's still very funny because he spent so much time recording everybody else's personal value that he forgot to record his own PVQ and realize it wasn't high enough. If only he was more like his Fruit Bat Man identity and made them his last friends. Lisa also wasn't so terrible in this episode, but it has the same problems of Yolo when Lisa has a superiority complex that triggers her for someone doing better than her.

I know you're unsatisfied that the plots fizzled out at the end, but there is a good reason why the rocket ark didn't matter in the end. The ark Mr. Burns was making to save the most valuable people from World War 3 started the plots, but they were more about how PVQ tests can make mistakes and even the lowest PVQ scores can improve. It led to some really nice moments between Marge and Homer. The reason why Mr. Burns's ark didn't matter and none of the Simpsons were desperate to go on Mr. Burns's ark is because...none of them were as delusional as him to believe that World War 3 would come so soon, so Mr. Burns got all worked up over nothing because World War 3 doesn't even start when this episode ends, so Mr. Burns had nothing to escape.

Could have been a contender

Warning: Spoilers
The reference to Fleetwood Mac was absolutely crackling for sure, and the way this was linked with Nostrodamus was hilarious for sure. Anyway, this episode, which is well outside the golden era, could have been a contender.

The ending as incredibly abrupt and I wondered if what I was watching (syndicated I guess) had been censored or something like that. There seemed to be missing a purpose or spine to this episode, kind of like a Wes Anderson movie going astray.

Anyway, I was hoping we'd get to see more of Dr Frink but sadly we didn't learn more about his backstory. Anyway, Frink Gets Tasty is worth watching once.

Good enjoyable fun!

Frank Gets Testy is a genuinely great episode with great jokes and all round funny moments. The highlight of the episode for me was definitely the PVQ song, which really helps you get into this episode and certainly brings up the score for me.

I always feel the episodes where someone almost too wacky happens take away from the immersion and this is the pitfall this episode falls into with the spaceship building subplot.

Besides that I liked the other bits, especially Lisa's subplot with Ralph.

A great episode Held back by the story and ending 8.4/10.
