In 2018, “La La Land” and “Dear Evan Hansen” songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul missed out on breaking the record for fastest Egot acquisition by coming up short on their first Emmy bid for “A Christmas Story Live!”. From that point, however, they still had eight years left to achieve said record, and they could end up doing so with two years to spare now that they are in the running for the 2024 Best Music and Lyrics Emmy.
Pasek and Paul’s new nominated song from “Only Murders in the Building” is one of three comedic ones in its lineup, the others of which were written for “Girls5eva” and “Saturday Night Live.” Also in the mix are more somber tunes from the miniseries “The Tattooist of Auschwitz” and “True Detective: Night Country.”

‘Twas the night before Christmas and all networks delivered a merry slate of reruns while NBC topped Tuesday night ratings with its traditional airing of Frank Capra’s 1946 holiday classic It’s A Wonderful Life. This year, it earned a 0.7 rating in the 18-49 adult demographic and 3.61 million tuned in to watch George Bailey realize he has so much to live for. The ratings are down from last year by a tenth.
CBS aired reruns of NCIS and FBI while the other networks served up repeats of Yuletide-themed specials. ABC aired the stop-motion animated classic Santa Claus is Coming’ to Town (0.5, 2.63M) followed by Cma Country Christmas (0.4, 2.66M).
Fox put us in a musical mood with another helping of 2017’s live musical event A Christmas Story Live! (0.3, 1.12) while The CW aired Masters of Illusion: Christmas Magic 2019 (0.1, 840,000) and Greatest Holiday Commercials Countdown 2019.

Pretty much everyone and their mother (who should have warned them first) can safely say Fox’s “A Christmas Story Live” shot its eye out last night. Well, in the ratings at least. The televised musical event was no match for “Sunday Night Football” or pretty much anything else on the Big 4, including all of CBS’ broadcast shows and ABC’s “Sound of Music” telecast (not that live NBC one with Carrie Underwood, the classic starring Julie Andrews). The earlier-available overnight ratings for “A Christmas Story Live” from the 56 markets metered by Nielsen are pretty dismal — and generally considered more.

Bah humbug: Fox’s “A Christmas Story Live!” just got blindsided by NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” in early TV ratings. Oh, and every other broadcast TV show beat it as well. The latest live television musical managed a 2.8 overnight rating/5 share in the 56 metered-markets monitored by Nielsen. Compare that with NBC’s “Sunday Night Football,” which posted a massive 12.3/21 last night. To be fair, that latter live telecast had the Dallas Cowboys. Plus, football is still football and no one expected “A Christmas Story” to compete — it certainly could have done much better than it did, however. ABC’s “Sound of.
