Avoid at all costs !
Harfy24 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Omg. How awful this movie is. Well, first, you need to know it's another "The Asylum" production ; that means you can expect the worse.

The plot is nonsense : 3 meteorites crash on Earth, and are a kind of flying gargoyles. And, of course, they start to destroy everything as you can expect. So, as the movie is set in United States of America, the army just send two or three planes and a chopper to fight these monsters. That's amazing, isn't it ? Luckily, there is a chick working on a neural-link-plane that will save the day. By the way, we learn she was a fighter pilot too... And guess what ? Her father is an old fighter pilot too, and is working as a scientist right now. As scientist, he is handling meteorite's part without wearing protection gloves. Yup, best scientist ever.

The chick and her team ran to a Tucson base, and she's taking the lead of operations. Yeah, the commanding officer...well, he don't care about that, so no problem darling, you can be the boss.

Sure, you can watch this movie, but I've warned you that it's a pile of junk.

Alien awfulness
TheLittleSongbird12 March 2018
Have made no secret in the past of intensely disliking, and even outright hating a lot, a vast majority of The Asylum's (near-universally maligned for good reason) output, though there is curiosity as to whether they are capable of making something good and compulsive about their output's badness. Admittedly, The Asylum do have a small group of watchable films and the occasional (big emphasis on that word) above average one, unfortunately outweighed by the lacklustre at best and often dreadful films they churn out.

After seeing 'Alien Convergence', giving it a fair chance and trying to not let bias get the better of me, as much as it actually pains me to say it do agree with everybody else who not only found it an awful film but also one of The Asylum's worst. One of their most amateurish and intelligence-insulting certainly, all their trademark flaws are here in 'Alien Convergence'.

Just for the record, giving a film the lowest possible rating is incredibly rare for me these days (until seeing 'Geo-Disaster' a few days ago had not given out the rating in weeks), trying to be a fair reviewer trying to see the good in everything viewed. That rating is only reserved for films etc. that look like no effort or heart was put into it and like nobody was trying, a cardinal sin in film but actually not committed all that often. 'Alien Convergence' is one of the worst examples of this in recent memory.

Visually, 'Alien Convergence' looks incredibly cheap even for something made on a low budget. It's very drably and sometimes dizzyingly shot, incoherently edited (bacon-slicer-like) with glaring and unforgivably sloppy continuity errors and even the scenery doesn't make much impression despite being actually the least bad aspect of the film. Even worse are some of the most laughable and pathetic-looking special effects to be seen on celluloid, actually looking they were done as an afterthought and on the small remainder of the money they had left.

Can remember little about the music, which tended to be intrusive, annoying and out of place. The dialogue is utter gibberish and truly juvenile and unnatural, even by The Asylum standards and even in their best efforts the script is one of the weaker assets. How it was approved beyond first draft is beyond comprehension.

There is absolutely nothing thrilling, tense, suspenseful, emotionally investable or fun about the story. The predictability may have been forgivable if the film was actually engaging let alone exciting but it fails to be either throughout. Lets not get started on how insultingly nonsensical and ridiculous it is, things similarly are so vague and confused that coherence was also a major issue in places. The conflict had no urgency, imagination, fun or menace at all, it was all just dull and dumb.

As sort of expected, as it is a trademark of The Asylum it seems, there are illogical and irritating character behaviours that makes one endear to them even less in a film with not one interesting or rootable character. There is not one halfway decent performance either, almost like they weren't even trying.

Overall, awful with nothing redeeming about it, except that it is not quite as blatantly derivative as other Asylum efforts. 1/10 Bethany Cox

Even by Asylum standards.......
ianb330-112-34457919 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Ordinarily I am amongst the first to defend Asylum films from the 'worst film ever made' brigade, citing their tiny budgets and tight schedules, however even I am struggling to make any sort of case for this effort.

For a start, the plot line requiring all the main characters to have some sort of disability seems a bit tenuous, to say the least. I can honestly say this is the only movie I've seen in which the primary protagonists are respectively in a wheelchair, on crutches, and have only one hand (or more accurately, has one very long sleeve). One can only wonder if the script-writers didn't also have a disability - word- blindness. The forced banality of the screenplay is exceeded only by the all around garbageness of the sfx. (I'm sure the cgi flying monsters were recycled from another Asylum movie.....Dragon Crusaders perhaps?) And don't get me started on the acting......

Sorry Asylum, but there's no excuse for this kind of dross - and that's coming from someone who thought Operation Dunkirk was a decent flick.

Must do better next time!

OMG! That was AWFUL! I'm a fan of alien movies but WOW!
sportspc13 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
What can I say but OMG, don't waste a minute of your life on this one. I would love to be behind this but wow, this was horrible to watch. Yes, I watched the whole thing. Shoot me now! The acting was a mess but I guess with that story line, it would be kind of hard for the best of them. How did they get the money to make this, I don't know. It could have been much better but the idea was and times it took to infuse it, was just crazy! Then like a "lifetime channel" movie, the ending cuts off fast and that's it folks. The credits starting rolling; which was the best part of the movie. Sorry but I just don't know what else to say. Enjoy at your own risk.

Only Watch as a Last Resort!

The only thing worth looking at in this film is pretty Caroline Ivari. The plot is dreadful and most of the acting performances leave a lot to be desired. Cheapie special effects don't help.

Horribly funny

Warning: Spoilers
I thought this movie was hilarious. The acting sfx and cgi were nice and fake just like a good old Godzilla movie. Dad was a pilot until the car crash and mother was killed. Daughter was a pilot until she crashed the plane. Good thing Dad is afraid to get in a elevator, i think these people really need to stay away from machinery of any sort let alone a Brain Plain. One seizure during formation and Boom ! all gone..no hope for humanity. I haven't laughed this much since grade 4. Watch: Reign of Fire, you'll see why i think this movie is so hilarious and it will make you feel better for watching it.

The Asylum's worst
Leofwine_draca23 March 2018
Warning: Spoilers
ALIEN CONVERGENCE is a pitiful attempt at a B-movie sci-fi flick from The Asylum. It was only made to rip-off ALIEN COVENANT, with which it has nothing in common. The story features a bunch of characters sitting around in the desert and controlling a fighter plane to battle invading aliens. The CGI effects are used sparingly but quite awful when they do show up, while everything else is horrible: the acting, the cringing attempts at characterisation, the supposed 'jokey' one-liners, the sheer tediousness of it all. As far as Asylum films go, this one's the pits.

Literal Clickbait
dustinaking3 November 2021
This is literally an attempt to trick you into thinking you're watching an Alien film or an anime in that universe or SOMETHING. Nope, just a literal garbage fire whos entire $12 budget was spent on a graphic that looks just enough like Ridley Scotts Alien to get you to click it.

why send a wheelchair bound old man to checkout a crater?!?
warehousereviews3 September 2020
Pretty boring...

As Gordo Ramsay would say... "Bland" or "do you use any seasoning?.."

Good on them for getting disabled people to star in it.. but actors would of been a better idea.

Alien Crapiness
helenrdavidj26 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
So our normal hardened pro pilots cannot fight the aliens because the aliens emit a signal that 'messes with their heads'. So, of course you need thought-controlled aircraft? And pro pilots aren't good enough to fly them, so cue a 12 year old 'seasoned vet' and her friends with disabilities. I think you can write the rest. This film insults everyone's intelligence.

Boring. More action at the snail races.
Horrible movie. Too much personal drama, not enough action. Very few scenes of the alien creatures. Mostly talk, talk, talk and nothing realistic. Oh, the costumer should be fired, second asylum movie I watched thus week with so many mistakes in the military uniforms.

Warning: Spoilers
I am a proud fan of The Asylum however this is a terrible movie by their standards. It's not even a funny bad fur the most part. Except for the footage of a drone which they pretend is an aircraft, that is hilarious. Tbh I thought the worst movie The Asylum put out was whatever the rip off of Speed Racer was, then I saw this!

Why?
neil-4765 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
A mishmash of unlikely heroes join together to fight a radioactive-breath alien gargoyle.

The writing is appalling, the acting is poor, the effects are massively less than special. It's The Asylum, so all that goes without saying.

The thing that puzzled je was some of the editing choices. During flying combat scenes, there are frequent cuts to hands tapping on knees. Yes, I know the fighter pilot is in a wheelchair, but focused cuts during an action sequences are there to fireshadow something. Or, in this case, nothing.

And I could have sworn I saw a young woman put a boot in a fridge for no apparent reason...

"Fortunately God loves the Marines"
hwg1957-102-26570414 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Before reviewing a film I always watch it to the end as I think it will be unfair to comment on it otherwise , so I saw 'Alien Convergence' to the end and just about made it to the final credits. This is a tedious film not helped by uninteresting characters, weak acting and a dearth of action. The main conflict is not with the alien monsters but concerns a father and daughter who have 'issues.' Most unexciting. Rob Pallatina was the editor and the director. Don't think he performed well in either role.

"Get Me Some Liquid Nitrogen! Fast!"...
azathothpwiggins7 June 2021
ALIEN CONVERGENCE starts off with an alien invasion. Then, it switches to a group of pilots training to fly mind-controlled aircraft. Emma Harper (Caroline Ivari) is head of the project, when she's not busy bonding with her father.

The alien monsters can fly in and out of phase, making them invulnerable to conventional fighter jets. Not-so surprisingly, Emma's squad is called upon to come to the rescue.

This is a monster movie, and once in a while a monster pops up to remind us of this. Mostly, it's about Emma, her dad, and the crew Emma commands. Said group have disabilities, so, the underlying message is one of using our heads, and not letting obstacles stop us. That's fine.

What sinks this movie are the poorly-realized, CGI aliens. Let's face it, flying cartoons are not scary! At all! In a movie like this, it would have been better to not show them...

All that effort to waste for lack of a script
kirachloe5 October 2023
Complete disappointment. I really want to give this a 3 star, just reward the actors and crew that really seemed to try, but the script was complete and utter garbage. This was not a cheap effort, maybe not a huge budget, but there was outlay here. And the non-CG photography was not bad. But, as usual, it seems the writer was more worried about getting out 'something', likely due to connections or whatever, instead of taking the time to do it right. This could EASILY been a 4 star movie if someone had done the research to write a script with more realistic dialogue and events ... and doubled/tripled the time spent on CG.

"Alien Confusance..."
hwrd-hall20 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Yes, the bad reviews are correct - this movie misses the mark by a fairly wide margin. Lame-ish, low-budget special effects? Check. Disjointed, sometimes incoherent, editing? Check. Inexplicably-illogical story points? Check. The script, itself, desperately needed at least one good rewrite before shooting started, by someone who understands how humans actually speak. Not even the most talented and dedicated troupe of performers could have recited some of that stilted, wooden dialogue without coming off as... well... wooden and stilted!

Had the writer and director tried just a trifle harder, pushed it just a little further over-the-top and not taken themselves quite so seriously, they might have delivered some entertaining tongue-in-cheek "disaster comedy", rather than this "tragic disaster". It probably wouldn't have equaled the "madcap tomfoolery" of, say, "Lavalantula", starring the inimitable (...or should that read, "inevitable"?) Steve Gutenberg, but it still could easily have been humorous, nonetheless.

As it stands, however, the only really worthwhile part was the fact that, eventually, their Big Military Operation was code-named "Monster Zero", a delightfully-hilarious reference to a much older energy-beam-spitter, also with three heads, albeit in a slightly different way!

BTW, kudos to an earlier reviewer for recognizing the monsters - according to Amazon Prime's "X-Ray" feature, they were, indeed, recycled directly from Asylum's "Dragon Crusaders"... Good eye!
