Warning: Spoilers
A man tells a story to his boys who interject.

Johnny (Drew Rin Varick) is an unlikable person who has a contest for the hottest babe staying in a scary place and offers up a lot of money in hopes of getting some sex. (Seems a prostitute would be cheaper.) Everyone in the contest takes acid and has wild hallucinations unlike any acid trip I have been on.

The story line grew boring. The special effects didn't exist. I liked the opening song and 60's effect. Characters were good.

Guide: F-word. Sex talk. No nudity.

Acid. Devil. Kids.
BandSAboutMovies11 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
You have to love the description that was in the PR email for this movie: "Brothers Johnny and Luke hold this year's haunted hot girl challenge in an abandoned prison facility deep in the forest on acid. It's a good trip until the devil shows up."

Devil's Acid was written and directed by first-time talent Garrett Kruithof. It's all about the rich and abusive Johnny throwing a party in an abandoned building complete with LSD and a gun. Of course, the devil shows up - or the acid kicks in - but at the same time, it could all be a story being told by a man named Dale who is hanging out with two young kids while he gets smashed.

The smaller, the nastier

No pun intended - this is not about the running time mind you. It may also not be directly about the main character ... but about the kids listening to the story ... well if you watched the movie you know what I mean. That aside, the movie is ... weird and has many cringe moments. For different and various reasons. Acting is ok, for the low budget effort that it is.

That said, the effects are ok too ... but there is too much nonsense and mayhem going on ... in the wrong sense. And the characters are almost all despicable ... not sure if you can like even one of them ... probably not ... maybe the "devil"? Who knows ... or the acid? Kids do not try this at home ... unless you are the kids from the movie ... no of course not even those little ... well you know what.

My Review Of "Devil's Acid"
ASouthernHorrorFan7 November 2019
The story is creative and engaging, especially the set up of a late night storytelling session. The tropes are well founded horror elements that can at times seem overdone and disingenuous. In "Devil's Acid" there are those moments here as well, but for the most part the point of view and heavy humor keeps things balanced out. People hallucinating to the level of psychosis, I mean how could you not be curious.

The acting is iffy, not so much in ability or lack of direction. Mostly the characters seem a little too cliche and overdrawn. A couple of cast members seem to have control of their parts. Still it all is relative, and somewhat debatable, given the gonzo/ grindhouse style both visually and in writing. There is enough here to also enjoy. Some of the acting and some dialog is just to funny and enjoyable to really dismiss "Devil's Acid" completely.

The horror is mostly disappointing. Everything that happens is more gimmicky and restrictive. Budget issues probably explain that, but I really wanted more messier, celebratory violence and gore. Still, "Devil's Acid" has some cool atmospheric moments, recognize situational stuff that compliments the drug induced mayhem. Plus the devil (maybe).

Overall "Devil's Acid" is gonna have a limited fanbase. Mostly ultra low-budget b-movie fans who like dark humor with a touch of horror will get it. The movie does ride wildly close to "so bad it's good" status. It does have some choice moments. Still fans looking for more horror in their humor may be disappointed.

Utterly terrible and unwatchable
kannibalcorpsegrinder31 December 2019
Trying to get his son asleep, a man begins telling a story about a guy who gathers several friends and other girls together at an abandoned prison to try out a wild party game of his, and when a batch of devil's acid is brought into the mix their psychedelic trip causes more problems than expected.

This was a wholly flawed effort. What really works here is the atmosphere of the situation as the abandoned building features some great images. The prison being out in the middle of nowhere and obviously not being used for a while creates an appropriate air of creepiness that mixes together with the usual motifs of the abandoned building with endless corridors, whispering voices and flickering lighting. That this is then furthered by the heavy drug use which brings plenty of fantastical visuals in the various encounters throughout the prison which goes along with the frenzied action each of them undergoes due to the situation. However, these here are all that works for the film. There are quite a few flaws here. Among the main issues here is the fact that the disjointed plot never really allows for any kind of momentum to be built-up. Just as the film is attempting to build to something potentially creepy or chilling, the film cuts away to show the kids needing something to eat or drink in order to finish the story or interject with their own thoughts and ideas as to how it should be instead before the father takes control again. This is incredibly frustrating and leads to a choppy feel with the pacing that never allows the film to gather any kind of energy as it's always interrupted cutting back to them. That also comes into play with the next factor as the kids interrupting to tell their stories makes it difficult to tell what really happened. There's no clue what's the final version of events in the real story or even what was supposed to be horror about these scenes as the film's nature of having everyone on acid tends to really short change the atmosphere and dread. Nothing that happens in any of these stories comes across as scary or thrilling regardless of who's telling it, and to blame the whole thing on a drug-influenced series of hallucinations without any of it really happening is a cheat and a total disservice to the atmosphere it had built up. The last real problem here is the absolutely bland and unfunny characters that populate this one. As we spend the entire time with a group of brain-dead, clueless, misogynistic and racist characters that are intended to be funny based on a very light tone and the continuous usage of jokes at their expense, we grow to despise them rather than side with them. As no one tends to utilize any common sense in spotting what's wrong because they're too busy playing up to the jokes that are being offered about the situation, this grows tiresome and bland really fast, making for the biggest issues that hold this one down the most.

Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Language, heavy drug use and Violence.

SHORT on Laughs... pun intended
joeyfrats18 April 2020
Horrible acting, even worse writing. Plot was absent before the opening credits. Sadly, the opening "Grindhouse" or "planet terror" rip off was the best thing about this movie! Everything else needed to be aborted from the sales pitch to the B-Movie production company.

Do NOT waste your time with this half-pint of a movie. SMDH, I will never get the wasted time back. I could have been popping zits or swabbing the inside of my junk for STD's....

Entertaining and daring
jbryantbaker15 January 2018
I first want to lead off saying that if you watch a movie and don't go in for the pure entertainment portion of the movie then you are watching movies incorrectly.

That being said, this was a very entertaining movie. This isn't going to win any awards but the acting was silly by most of the actors, on purpose. The plot is simple but effective. There were many archetypes in the movie.

Never judge a film by the user reviews!

First of all, I love indie horror films. I don't remember how I stumbled upon this film but, I'm glad I did. Very good cast, very good look and feel, GREAT dialogue. The story isn't the most original story in the world but, there's a lot of clever one liners in it. The ending is kinda weak but, during the credits, there are more shots that keep it interesting. I had a lot of fun watching this. I won't spoil a thing but, I definitely recommend it. It's not the best indie horror film in the last 5 years but, there's a hell of a lot worse. 6/10

flawed but fun
lamchop-8124024 April 2022
Whole this movie has some issues with quality, I still think it has heart and is fun to watch.

I'm not going to critique everything. I just saw it had a bad rating and wanted to say it's worth watching. There's some wtf moments and some pretty funny parts.

I thought the actor who played the main guy was good. Watch the first five minutes on Tubi and tell me you don't at least chuckle after he is yelling at the help and then jumps up from the table. He plays a very hateable character, and does it well.

I liked the way the movie is set up as a story a drunk dad is telling his kids, too. While it didn't add a lot, it didn't take away and it added some levity.

Biggest mistake these losers made was making it about money... that's how you have a bad trip.
