I would have loved to like this...
OneSentenceReview4 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
..as I enjoyed the first part, but the plain, shallow black and white script where the baddies are pure evil and the good ones are weak do-gooders is unbearable at times, and doesnt add to consistency. In a disney movie it would be ok and expected, in Star Wars we accept it (Darth Vader vs Luke &ObiWan..I add this as there is a line "I'm your father" so I couldn't resist) but not in an medieval meant to be authentic film like this.

As example the Yedi-like father lets a low life murderer life TWICE only to jeapardize his mission (&his life)..the wyrm has to do it instead.

Same lame writing in the first film when the weak prince didnt kill the evil lord, fled instead, and led to the populations utter misery..probably to make a second part...Etc etc

Good weaklings against strong evil Ones. Meh.

But, again...great acting, charismatic actors, awesome scenery (real and CGI), and of course..very nice Wyrms/Slangens! :)

It is what it is

And what is it ? Well its low budget fantasy from denmark, but not so bad as it sounds , but yet ,,, low budget fantasy from denmark

Story is ok , acting is good , production did their very best , so not so much to complain on either, not sure what target group this movie looking for , perhaps the little younger ones I guess, could guess teenager with love for fantasy is perfect, so the problem I have with this movie is just to kind , and without violence and brutality it dont feels like a fantasy movie , its a perfect family movie a cold winterday

So nothing for me who likes fantasy with death and glory , this is just to clean and cute.

Not quite as good as the first.
Horror_Flick_Fanatic7 November 2021
The first film was significantly better. This one seems to rely more on CGI while the first had a solid screenplay. The first one touched the soul with the little girl, Dina. Here she is back again a little more grown up, but the writing just wasn't as endearing as the first film. The film isn't bad. But I would have loved if they did both movies back to back when the actress that played Dina was still a young child and there was more continuity. Rebecca Emilie Sattrup and Jakob Oftebro are both good actors and they work well together. The actress that played Drakan's mother was also very good.

I also noted this film borrows even more from HBO's Game of Thrones than the previous film. Even the catacombs of Winterfell seemed to be copied.

The First Was Way Better

The books are all much better than the movies. However, I found the first movie enjoyable, and it introduced me to Lene Kaaberbøl's excellent writing, both her books for children & adults. The second movie is pretty bad. The script is so weak that I can't see the actors had much to work with. Worth watching for the gorgeous scenery and the excellent acting of Rebecca Emilie Sattrup, who plays the leading role of Dina. But definitely read the books. As mentioned in the first review, they skipped the second book, and with this extremely simplified second installment, you could say they skipped the third books as well!

Betyder than the first
"The Shamer's Daughter II: The Sepaint Gift" is finaly in Danish Theaters! After four years the second instalment is on the big screen. Not to be confused by the title, this film skips book two and jumps right into the third book. I think that this is a logic idea and is in no means a bad descicion. Actually it's really great. Mixed acting, but good directing and suspense. The biggest complain I have is the music. There is little original music and oh how I loved the soundtrack for the first, I have to admit I missed new themes. Kappe Kaas seemed to be focused on the "Main Title" theme and two others. The villain is also pretty bad. It's not the same actor and it shows. But overall a fun fantasy flick with impressive visuals.

Do not waste your time

Is the cast's bad performance due to the director or the script? Villains turn to comedy, heroes turn to weak drama. It lacks important elements for it to be considered a good film. 3 is an above-deserved note.

This and thr first are outstanding Fantasy. Much Much better than most the crap spewing out of hollwood. Currently it can be found in Tubi

It plays like a very high budget movie across the board minus any Political content

Its pretty obvious it has been down graded by movie competitors here in the US, its like, dam I hope no one sees this, its gonna make us look shty

The costuming and cinematography are first rate, the acting is out standing, the specual effects are top of the line

The set pieces are like out of a high budget flick, the script makes total sense and keeps U engaged

You like fantasy and Sci FI, this is and he first one is your baby.
