The Tick makes reference to being stuck in a bus terminal. This is an obvious reference to The Tick - episode 1 (2001) in which he starts off in a bus terminal before leaving.
In the pilot, the Tick's costume is different to the one shown in the second episode. Even the number of segments in his antennae are different. In the alley, Arthur stops and says, "You look... different".
The newscaster on the TV in Goat's shop identifies a landscaper assaulted in his van as from the town of Notlob, Illinois. The fictional town's name could be a subtle reference to the famous "Parrot Sketch" performed in "Monty Python's Flying Circus," (1971). In the sketch, the pet shop owner (Michael Palin) explains that he mistakenly referred to the city of Bolton as the city of Ipswich, claiming it is a palindrome, to which his disgruntled customer (John Cleese) corrects him, saying that the palindrome of "Bolton" is actually "Notlob."
