Took Me Back
waynecamble-437208 September 2017
Saw this because I used to watch Franco Nero in old spaghetti westerns and I just wanted to relive my youth.I heard About Frank D'Angelo as amateur film maker but this movie was not amateur. It was different, reminded me of when filmmakers tried to be artsy and edgy. Common gangster story but the acting was some old school, classic acting that I haven't seen since I watched Goodfellas. Franco Nero is a legendary man but I cant deny Giancarlo Giannini, brilliant. This Was something different, for sure I would watch another D'Angelo film as long as he doesn't sell out and become commercial like everyone else.

Finally

So I saw this downtown. I saw billboards everywhere and honestly what else is there too watch ( I go to the movies every week and have seen everything in theaters this year) I was so happy I saw this, it honestly was artsy as hell and thats what I want to see. It just seemed so creativley done and the acting was awesome. I only give it an 8 because I think their could have been a more consistent story line but I mean Im picky so. Good job frank dangelo i know your from Toronto from reading your bio and at least someone has the guts to make something that isn't a complete pile of SH** ! I loved it I would actually watch it again.

A work of Art!
kaitlincorp10 September 2017
They say fine wine gets better with age, we'll the same can be said with Frank D'Angelo films. Every film that he produces gets even better the last and The Neighborhood delivers on every cylinder - story, cast, music and creativity. The Neighborhood is raw and edgy which is a typical D'Angelo film style in the way he shoots and frames his characters. The story is authentic and the actors that he's chosen for the main roles to tell his story are heavy weights that deliver knock out punches; Franco Nero (Django Unchained), Giancarlo Giannini (Casino Royale), Burt Young (Rocky), John Savage (The Deer Hunter) and these are just a few. I have seen most of Frank D'Angelo's movies and I am a fan of his style, of movie-making, which is not typical Hollywood. He continues to break the rules which makes his movies so interesting to watch. Like David Lynch, Alfred Hitchcock, Quentin Tarantino, they created masterpieces of art. This is Frank D'Angelo's latest piece of art and I look forward to his next.

Definitely one of the best movies I have seen this year.
monasterybakery11 September 2017
I watched The Neighborhood in California with a friend, he is a big fan of Frank D'Angelo's films and was all excited about this new film as it was having a big theatrical release, so he insisted we go see it. I did not know what to expect, I have never seen one of his films but since Danny Aiello and a lot of other actors that I recognized were starring in it I figured it must be decent. Well, there were lots of people in the theater so that was a good sign. I am glad that he pushed for us to see the film because it's a great film and we enjoyed it extremely. After the movie, we started reciting the lines from different scenes to each other just like we did with Good Fellas and The Godfather. We had a great night, with a very memorable movie. Can't wait until it comes to television or DVD so I can watch it again.

What an enjoyable film!
alexandermckee27 September 2017
I saw this film with my girlfriend in a Vancouver theatre and I have to say we were really impressed. I truly enjoyed this film. It was entertaining, thrilling, exciting, heartfelt and had great relationships between the characters. The film had some similarities to other films in the same genre but it also had that something special, that something extra. I liked the backstory, the younger versions of the characters and how it showed their relationships back when and then into present day. I read about this film after watching it and I can appreciate this Canadian filmmakers approach to film making. His timeline and the story he created - that's impressive and aspiring to me as a fellow Canadian Graduate in Fine Arts and Film Production. The Actor's played their parts with perfect conviction and raw energy. This film had a pretty impressive cast and I think they did the story a great justice. If you get the chance to see this film I think you will find it rather enjoyable and entertained nonetheless.

Totally worth a watch!

Frank D'Angelo hits it over the park with The Neighborhood. I've seen several of Frank D'Angelo's movies and this one is a great work of art. A totally realistic story that is thoughtfully written and with a cast performance from some of the best actors that have ever hit the screen. Giancarlo Giannini, Franco Nero, Danny Aiello, Burt Young, John Savage, and there's many more, all have contributed to the validity of this drama with deep characters that come off the page. And I would be a missed if I did not mention Frank D'Angelo's performance in this film. He carries the film like a maestro in an orchestra, with every actor playing off him so perfect, making every move and scene very calculated and deliberate that makes it a joy to watch. Bravo, Bravo, for an outstanding job all around. If you liked Goodfellas or The Godfather, this is a film for you.

The Neighborhood
cultfilmfan19 August 2017
I find with each new Frank D'Angelo film that I see, that he continues to improve as a filmmaker, actor and I think most of all in this case, as a storyteller as well. People could easily find things within the film with both how it was made as well as structured to find fault, or criticism over and they may have some valid points, but I give D'Angelo credit because this is the third film of his that I have seen and I notice that he continues to improve and get better with his filmmaking, but most of all with his acting and storytelling. He has proved that he knows how to carry a film as an actor and he can be quite expressive when he needs to be and show a range of emotions to whatever the particular scene in question is needing. I have no faults whatsoever with his acting and I think he is gradually becoming a very solid actor and I would definitely be curious to see him in some projects that he didn't write, or direct himself because I think that he definitely has the capability and talent to star in films by other directors and still pull off passionate and effective performances even if he was not the one doing the film itself. Here again as the other two films that I have reviewed of his, he has gathered himself with a lot of actors who are not usually in the spotlight, or receive a lot of due notice when it comes to other Hollywood stars who get both more publicity and more fame and glamour as well. And yet I find that he always has had a good supporting cast within his films. Some performances definitely hold the picture in place better than others, but most of these performers definitely can also carry a film and should be given a second look when it comes to casting agents for major as well a minor film roles as well. Here some of the acting is very impressive at times, especially from some of the more season and experienced actors, but generally everyone here puts their best foot forward and achieves what needs to be done and then some. D'Angelo's directing could use a tiny bit of fine tuning here and there when it comes to framing shots as well as having a more coherent and steady flow with both the story as well as moving from scene to scene, but these are just minor faults and did not detract away at all from my overall enjoyment of the film and I truly did enjoy it very much and I only mention these constructive criticisms because I know that D'Angelo will continue to perform well and master his technical abilities behind the camera and I know that he will just get better as times go on and I hope that more people will not only discover his films, but that they will have wider releases as well as more reviews and talk of them in public and in the media. I think he is quite good as a storyteller and one thing that has impressed me in all three films, but is truly standalone here is his sense of good dialogue and how to write interesting characters. In his film Sicilian Vampire there was a lot of back and forth banter and humorous although foul at times conversations between the main stars, particularly the male characters and I find that he has a good sense of how to write characters with good camaraderie as well as having interesting discussions and the odd foul joke as well. The dialogue he has and the actors who pull it off very well, make it feel very natural and breezy and it truly is a great delight to watch it because it is written well, performed well and just makes for compelling viewing as well. Some of the themes he touched on in earlier films can find their way back here and yet the story feels quite original at times and I truly found myself captivated not just with the various goings on of the plot, but also with it's interesting characters as well. As those who have read my reviews before know, I am not a huge fan of crime, or gangster movies because I find that too often they fall into the same category and can feel clichéd, or if you have seen one film you have seen them all. However this film with it's sharp dialogue and truly fascinating characters and storyline truly captured my attention and didn't let go till the end credits rolled. I appreciate that this is a smaller film with a more minuscule budget and yet it makes up for it with it being a more captivating and engrossing film than most in it's genre and again some of the actors here really do a terrific job pulling it off. There is violence in the film, but it is very tastefully done and not done to excess, or to be offensive which I for one could really appreciate. I continue to be fascinated by D'Angelo's new films and as far as the ones I have seen go, this one is definitely my favourite and in my mind his most skilled accomplishment yet and I dare say one of my favourite films of this year. I look forward as always to see what he will do next because I think he is an auteur to watch who keeps getting better all the time and that is an great triumph in itself. See this while it is playing near you and give it a shot, I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Awesome Old School Movie
marybenneditio25 September 2017
So I saw this At the Bellmore Playhouse In New York And I came on IMDb just to say thank you to Mr.dangelo. This movie is basically made how movies used to be. My favorite part was the music and I actually bought the soundtrack on line because every song was stuck in my head. The man wrote directed produced and acted in this film who does that? well he did and it was fantastic. Please Hollywood start making movies like this again. Im tired of all this commercial superhero super boring stuff that's been coming out. Actually a beautiful film reminded me of Goodfellas and I would watch it again!

Amateur filmaker in a B movie at best. Are the 8, 9 and 10 reviews made by family and friends of the director/project?

Too much violence
Debbi1294815 November 2017
Not bad, I mean it's not my favorite movie because I'm not a fan of all the violence. I enjoyed the romantic scenes more. However, in my attempt to find something to watch on a Friday night I saw this on my amazon box and kind of just took the risk. It paid off only for the story between Angie and Angie (yes you read right) it was beautiful and classic bad boy wants good girl. But why do all these movies have so much killing? Can't everyone just get a long?

a dumb, pathetic goof wastes all his money
cjamesdueck15 May 2019
Frank D'Angelo has joined the likes of Tommy Wiseau and Stephen Groo as a stupid, unlikeable man with the drive and money to make a movie. Props for that. But unlike these other terrible filmmakers, you can't laugh with or at the ridiculousness of his "movies". They are pure cringe without any enjoyment. He is an overweight, no-talent "writer/director" with a bad hair transplant who has such little insight that he makes himself the leading man in every project (probably imagining that his wooden, hokey performances come off as brooding and deep) and pays off d-list, washed up actors to indulge him in his fantasy of being a filmmaker. I never bother to write reviews but after seeing all the fake 9 and 10 star reviews he has given himself, I couldn't resist. Frank, you got lucky in business, good for you. Spend your money however you want, but don't delude yourself into thinking that anyone takes you seriously.

Nice!
jfisker-4991326 October 2017
We went to see this at the Berkeley 7 in WV. Not a bad movie at all, I mean at first i thought it was just another Hollywood feature, no idea this was done from the man who played Angelo Donatello, that is definitely impressive considering it was better than the last 5 Hollywood films I've seen in theaters. I think my favorite part is the music, not because it adds to the story just because it really is my kind of music. I also thought the acting was really good. It didn't seem like acting it just seemed like real life. I know that it is a direction most actors are going towards to create a real feel to any story and this was definitely it. didn't think i would cry in a gangster film but definitely cried at the end when..... well you just watch it and see! Loved it, thought some scenes could have been omitted though, but for the most part great movie.

Old School Gangster Movie
sharonsanders-7171524 October 2017
Saw this at villagio in Tampa for a ladies night out. My favorite movie ever is Goodfellas (Still is) But The Neighborhood Is definitely a new school version of an old school gangster movie. The music was great and I know that Frank D'Angelo performs it all , I've already bought the CD online. *Side note The guy also wrote directed and starred in the movie plus did all the music? who the heck has the time or energy ! Watch this movie if you really just want to see a classic, I personally am tired of Hollywood hoopla so this was refreshing. I haven't seen any of his other movies but I think I will now that I know what this guy has to offer. Welcome to the neighborhood !

The Great Canadian Filmmaker Strikes Again!
amchmaon28 October 2017
I am from Barrie Ontario and folks out here are big fans of Frank D'Angelo. A Canadian icon who has once again created a classic. This is my kind of gangster film for sure. Hardcore, great story line bad ass characters, and acting legends! I loved the realistic elements to this film, most scenes just felt like someone had a camera on a real gang of thugs. Although D'Angelo created characters that were lovable regardless of their occupation or criminal intent Bottom line movie was awesome and I can't wait till the next D'Angelo film.

See This !!!
apriladams-0279730 October 2017
Great movie that showed in New York at the New Windsor 12 great actors that did a great story line justice. A movie with all my favorite actors! Danny Aiello! Giancarlo Giannini! Uncle Pauly from Rocky ! Where do you get to see these guys act anymore. Thought this was really well done and I'm happy this is what we picked for a girls night out! See it if you love classic acting and a classic mobster story line. Think Goodfellas, Godfather, Casino. This is that but better quality. See this !!!

Tell me who you hang around with and Ill tell you who you are!
richardfeeny29 October 2017
Coolest film I've seen in the last 5 years. Saw this twice in theaters, I understood a whole lot more the second time around. Cool really is my biggest comment because from the moment the movie started, I said to myself "This is friggen cool!" That's why I liked it so much. Not many new movies have that cool factor, they overdone. But to see a movie just so badass was refreshing. I am a big fan of Frank D'Angelo , this was his best movie yet. Don't take away from the legend Danny Aiello, great to see him in a movie again!

Just bad
jhr20126 March 2020
I hate movies that glorify hoodlums and this one is no exception. Not a redeeming character in the bunch. Just a bunch of low life scum bags who think they are classy people. That's bad enough, but what really made this one awful was the musical score. OMG. It's awful. It's totally inappropriate for the story and is quite a distraction. Some clown is singing off key throughout the whole movie. This is nothing more that a B movie that is barely interesting enough to keep you from falling asleep.

Toronto Is On The Map!
brianviker27 October 2017
I feel like D'Angelo is putting Toronto on the map for film! I saw this at the Scotia Theatre and I watched because I know Frank is a Torontonian. It makes me proud to support his work but he definitely needs to do a movie set in Toronto! Hey the movie was great! Classic gangster story, good acting, good music. Only thing, too long! I think it could have not necessarily ended sooner but told the story with fewer scenes. Not complaining though, I enjoyed every minuet. I even bought the soundtrack online, seriously the guy makes good tunes. Great work! Can't wait for the next one !

horrible !!
onidenz19 May 2019
I don't what is worse.... the bad acting, the amateur storyline or the stupid soul music in the background for most of this film . Can't believe Danny Aeilo and Armand Asante were that desperate to be part of this junk !! It probably took two days to make this waste.

Frank D'Angelo's new movie is now on apple and you should go and watch it. This guy made an old school gangster film and it is so friggen good I've already seen it 3 times. To be honest it's long but definitely worth it for the ending. Great movie, great actors intense storyline. I also cannot believe that Margot Kidder still acts. If you really pay attention to her scene she does a great job. Seriously, really talented actress. The scene is also one of the best in the movie.

kaitlynp-021283 November 2017
Watched this in Kitchener with my sister. She is a little older than me and thinks Frank D'Angelo Is the most amazing actor on the planet. Even though I disagree his movie was great and his acting was really comparable to any one of those legends up there. I also thought the storyline was a very well written. I would yes see again. Frank you rock !

Danny Aiello !
dhendrick-576832 November 2017
Big fan of Danny Aiello, I saw this movie to see him act again and it was the greatest experience for me. Extremely nostalgic. Not to mention, the movie itself was great ! I really enjoyed seeing the classic mob story line. This movie was good because although it had the whole gangster story there was still a relationship between the Two Angies that blossom and that was really nice to see. Great movie !

If your looking for a new movie to watch on video on demand I have to say The neighborhood is definitely worth the buy. The cinematography is incredible, the acting is on point and the music , especially on a surround sound setup , amazing! I hope they make a part two Id be curious to see what happens next, however I don't want to spoil the ending for everyone ! Really impressed, first Frank D'Angelo movie I have ever watched, guy is the next scorcese.

Total badass
francescoth15 November 2017
Watch this on google play its amazing quality and the movie itself is one of my favourite gangster movies. Its old school meets new school. It has all of these actors that I grew up watching and the main guy Frank D'Angelo is a total badass. I watched this on my phone on a 2 hour bus ride back home and it saved me so thank you The Neighborhood, just please don't kill me !

Get it? LAME-borhood! AHAHAHAHAAH! I know I know, terrible joke, but it's still a billion times better than anything Frank D'Angelo has ever done in his entire life. This "movie" sucks.
