Some people seem to think the movie is disconnected and cannot understand it but if you just pay attention it becomes clear or at least I think it does!
*** SPOILERS AHEAD ***
The ghosts of his parents or perhaps the ghost of the Captain of the sunken ship moved the painting and perhaps planted the tape? Or did the owner play a sadistic trick with the video tape?
Fred the owner of the Inn for 30 years since (1986) The weird writer in the room back after 30 years (1986) Suspicious NO? Watch the way the owner reads his name from the credit card as if he knows its the son of the people he filmed being killed! So I am guessing the Owner was the one with the camera! The weird writer was the one who killed his parents! The cop eventually figures it out when he reads the old news clipping from...(1986) and when he arrives to arrest them you can see the face of Fred the innkeeper at the window knowing the game is up!
The main character was 6 when his parents were murdered and disappeared although we are never explicitly told but we know because of the video tape.
Why is it people pay so little attention then give a movie 1/10 just because they are too dim to work things out?
No idea what the guy in the restroom slamming the door has to do with the story though so there does seem to be some inconsistencies - perhaps someone else can elucidate on that one - perhaps one of the cast and crew who have posted all the 9 and 10 star reviews - shameful!
Some reviewers complain about Bad acting? The two main characters are well known actors and did a splendid job I wish people would review movies properly and not trash decent films and put others off with moronic 1/2 out of 10, it is almost as bad as the 9 and 10/10 shills who big up movies to increase ratings!
The move has a certain dark and brooding air to it which adds to the allure It is very understated and nothing is explicit but I like this type of movie It is not stellar but it has some clever moments and enough to keep you interested but is certainly not "deep on many levels" as one of the cast have reviewed and given it 10/10.
It does seem rushed and feels as though there are a lot of scenes missing but nevertheless it gets an above average 6/10 this time round as it has a certain je ne sais quoi!
