The drama of conscience
i-990779 March 2018
We can see the TV is the drama of conscience. If you want the world to feel this positive energy, sometimes you have to put some dramatic truth; many people say that the second season is not necessary, but for this drama, if we can introduce more reflection in the second season, I believe that the afterwinds after the accident is worthy of discussion, after all the original novel halted some pity; several young actors are very good, played the role pretty good, which makes me wanna bit them.

A Means to Disgest the Series
laurenofsteele21 April 2017
When Season 1 of 13RW ends, it seems most appropriate to have a debriefing of what you just saw. In fact, I would think it would be neglectful not to. There are some loose ends needing to be tied to the viewer emotionally and this explanation after the series helps to have some closure. I appreciated the feedback from the actors after they were done with their roles and the explanation for the scenes and also the psychological behavior of teens and people in general suffering from trauma. I hope to see more from this director, these producers, and hopefully from this series. Captivating and moving.

100 reasons Why Not (to see this one) Warning: Spoilers
"13 Reasons Why: Beyond the Reasons" is a 29-minute live action documentary that is as the title already suggests very closely linked to the successful television show "13 Reasons Why" that explains the motivations behind a teenage girl's decision to end her life. Let me start by saying that I have not seen the show and one of the very few positive aspects of this documentary here is that the scenes they showed us look good and got me slightly curious about it. This is not a making-of or behind the scenes documentary. It is a documentary that focuses on the emotional state of the central character and what goes on in her mind exactly. But does it really? Actually, no. This slightly under half an hour has almost absolutely nothing of value to say. Stetements include stuff like "It is difficult for the parent of a teenager." or "It's not okay for a boy to get drunk and have his way with girls to his liking afterward." in the sense of to rape them. It is extremely shallow and nothing beyond the reasons or beyond the surface as the title wants us to believe. Besides, there were moments when this documentary even had more than just a touch of misandry to it. Why not talk about female rapists or at least mention them? Anyway, the most shocking thing was probably that the empty phrases and general statements that may be true of course came in an overwhelming quantity from psychologists who not only don't have any connection with the show whatsoever, but tell stuff that everybody with an IQ over 80 could say. (And don't even get me started on how seriously and full of themselves they were while making these statements). Maybe that's the people this documentary was made for. One producer or so said in one occasion because of the heavy subject of the show they had emotional and professional help from start to finish while making it. It may or may not be true, but it sure sounds melodramatic as hell, too much, but that's just my subjective taste. Then, for me the question arises, why not invite these exact psychologists for this documentary and I truly hope they could have contributed better here than what we heard from the actual psychologists in here. Anyway, to sum it all up: Let me say something and make something clear that this documentary did not even come close to making clear because of how blurred and foggy it all was with its permanent rambling: No means no. But as much as the boy is forced to accept a no, the girl also needs to say it. I cannot say anything to the quality of this show, but I sure hope it is much much better than this add-on we have here, which is gently-speaking nothing but unnecessary garbage.

as a fan of this show

It's almost laughable how contrived this is. At first I almost pulled off the belief that this was sincere, but 10 responses to questions of suicide, drug abuse, and sexual assault that sound like they were quoted from a pamphlet in a therapist's office later, it was a lost cause. And it's not that I think any of these actors don't take those things seriously, but I would've appreciated a less script-feeling interview that allowed their more genuine experiences on the set and feelings about these issues to come out. I understand that the show came under heat for statistics about suicide rates going up since the release of this show, so they're doing whatever they feel they need to to make it clear where they stand. It's just impossible to watch and a waste of an interview. It feels like being held captive by a commercial that you can't get away from and which lasts forever. Then you remember that you don't have to watch it and turn it off before it's over. Thank you I feel better. Literally in the time it took for me to write this, I was able to process through my feelings of disgust and disappointment, and psychically return to the moment where I was mourning alongside Clay, panicking about Tyler, and feeling excited and confused by the conundrum between Jess, Alex, and Justin. People understand where the writers and directors are coming from, without the infomercial tack.

Watch it to guide discussions about issues covered in the series
bettycjung23 May 2018
5/23/18. Teens watching the series will most likely not bother with this post-script analyses. They probably should watch it to get a better handle on what the people behind the series are trying to do. I liked the explanations for the reasons why they decided to tackle the issues in the series. The 2nd season finale was a bit disturbing, but if it generates discussion, then that's a good thing. This film can be used to guide discussions about issues teens deal with in their emotional and school lives.
