Cem Yilmaz and Hiss unique style

I just watched the film, I have to say, it suits its purpose perfectly. I will try to analyze it as I can but I have to say, people who criticize it here, really are bad at it. Either they don't understand CEM YILMAZ and they don't know his style or they are just so bad at reviewing films, this is just one of them. This review will not have any spoilers.
It started slowly at the beginning, I think it was just for preparing the audience for the story behind it. It's not a movie that you will continue watching after the first 10 min, but it builds up afterward. The story is normally, in my opinion, would be boring if someone else did it. It had so much good referring and pointings, only the people who know about them would notice. So, It's not for everyone in that sense. In some scenes, I laughed pretty hard. Not because of the jokes but because of the way the film is moving and because of the abnormalities that are shown in the film. It was processed so well that it would give an expression as if a "Turkish" guy would do this, this would be the way he would do it. It crashes the cliches of Holywood with cliches in Turkish Culture. So, people who don't see this or find this funny might seem this is another cliche. It was actually entertaining.
Most of the people should understand, CEM YILMAZ uses his stories to make people laugh in his stand-ups and in the film industry he uses his imagination and creativity and blending it with Turkish Culture. So, ofcourse expecting it to be like in stand up shows, you will end up not understanding him and his movies. Eventually, you would think that they are not funny, therefore. My suggestion, just let it go all of your expectations and wishes and enjoy a different perspective. I think people can't enjoy because they forgot their own cultures or they are ashamed of it.
About the fight scenes and their qualities, the graphics etc. : It's perfectly normal that they are not that good. It's not a holywood film and we have seen too much before that we are not realizing, in the Turkish film industry, this is better than gold.
I have seen some people saying the speech on the last scene was meh... It is his style. It's not the first time he did it and I don't think it will be the last time. In my personal opinion, it shows where he comes from. It shows how sincere he is when he does his thing. I enjoyed every minute of the movie. Congratz...

In a country where the first university was established in the 20th century, this film is a milestone, a turning point and an enlightenment in terms of its capturing storyline, acting quality, excellence in terms of the technicality of cinema, the messages it gives and so on!
Since I work in the US, I am aware of how important the art, literature and lately the film industry is in scientific developments. Remember how many years submarines appeared on the stage of history after Jules Verne's book Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. Unfortunately, Turkey is not even at the stage of dreaming about science and technology yet.
As a scientist who believes that many Cem Yilmaz films should be included in primary, middle and high school curricula, I believe that even thinking that this film is only a tribute to Yesilcam is a result of this lack of imagination of science.
As many Cem Yilmaz viewers agree, since Cem Yilmaz never made films for money or popularity, his films are 40-50 years ahead of the country's level of education, consciousness, imagination and creativity.
Perhaps those who will invent and produce Turkey's first one-of-a-kind artificial intelligence some decades from now, I am sure, will remember ArifV216 with gratitude and a big smile.

Nicely crafted homage to old Turkish films

If you are a non-Turkish moviegoer, most of this movie might make no sense at all. For the uninitiated, it's just another sci-fi comedy revolving around an odd couple who goes back to the past and messes everything up hilariously. However, for a Turkish person, it is full of references to black-and-white melodramatic movies, colorful yet still melodramatic musicals and so forth. In addition, Arif and 216 are already well-known and much-liked by the Turkish audience from their previous roles in GORA and AROG.
The movie uses many cliches of old Turkish films by twisting or combining them in a weird way to create comedy plots. And, it is clear that particularly Sadri Alisik has a special place for Cem Yilmaz, because the film heavily borrows themes and stroylines from his works.
It's a solid 5 for the internationals and 7 for the Turkish audience.

As being unconfident with the visual effects or some technical details, Turkish movie makers keep themselves away from this genre. Even if there is no problem with the technical issues, it is very salty to take it. Thus, they can't venture.
Additionally, most of the Turkish people are not interested in science fiction. They prefer comedy movies with cheap jokes or drama movies in which there is a love between a rich and a poor.
However, this movie is a fruit with the taste of drama, comedy, and science fiction, but shaken, not stirred.

A fictive tribute to naivety of Turkish films in 1960s

Arif v 216 is a bit of a back step considering the previous films AROG and GORA. Yet I firmly believe it achieves what it sought. The film is mainly about traveling back to 1960s and experience the naive sentimentality of those times through the lens of Turkish movies of that time. Thus, one could enjoy the luxury of meeting all the greats of Turkish cinema in 1960s as if one were in a parade. The directing of the film is quite satisfactory. The acting of the lead actors is also quite good. The plot flows quite smoothly, which makes the viewing very enjoyable. Technically speaking, the film was almost flawless. All in all, I could say that with all the reference to our nostalgia included, the film is absolutely a nice and easy watch. However, I cannot state that it is a great film. It is a good film worth watching and enjoying oneself.

First of all, I'm a big fan of Cem Yilmaz and his movies. I still watch his movies at least once a year. That being said, while not being completely bad, this movie didn't meet the standards of Cem Yilmaz movies. He set the bar really high and sometimes it's not easy to reach there, even for himself.
Nostalgia factor played a big role in this new adventure of our beloved "Arif Isik", a character first introduced in G.O.R.A. Cem Yilmaz obviously loves nostalgia, and the great actors and actresses of 60's, 70's era just like most Turkish people, but the dose of it in this movie was way too much. I mean, the setting, background, costumes, characters were really great but that "These people were giants of the Turkish cinema, so they should not be made fun of" attitude was kind of boring, especially considering that this is a comedy movie. Especially the tirade at the end of the movie was really lame.
You should be familiar with the history of Turkish cinema in order to be able to enjoy this movie. There are just way too many references to that 60's, 70's era for anyone to even laugh at the jokes. So, don't bother watching the movie if you don't know who people like Zeki Müren, Sadri Alisik, Ajda Pekkan are.

Cem Yilmaz is a real talent in the comedy world of Turkey.. He understands what triggers people to laugh well.. He is witty enough to change your mood with a series of jokes impromptu.. He deserves a straight A for his stand up shows.. However he is not ready for the cinema yet.. He has more than enough raw materials to make a good movie..But he is still unable to process those materials to achieve a mature art of cinema.. I don't understand why a talent like Mr. Yilmaz can not understand the movie making technique we saw in his first movie as an actor: Her sey cok guzel olacak.. The script, the twist, the pace, acting, jokes etc..all were very well balanced in that movie..Fortunately that movie was directed by someone else, not by Cem Yilmaz... He could deliver at least three movies with the material he wasted in this movie generously by disobeying the art of the movie making..He can not manage the pace and can not understand the capacity of an average movie goer's digestion of the verbal comedy.. This pace of machine gun shooting of jokes to the audience is very tiring and becomes boring after a while.. I recommend him to find a director to turn his scripts into more cinematic movies with a reasonable pace and harmony.. We are patiently waiting for a real movie from this talented guy for decades..I am sure that he will discover that technique one day!

Cem Yilmaz and his team did a great job in this movie. The dazzling-flow of the series of events in 1960's Turkey, coupled with the comedy infrastructure; makes this film quite watchable. The craftsmanship is adorable, what else can be expected then? Congratulations on making this beautiful movie!

I think your friends give you much laughter in a cafe by paying the same ticket cost.

Regarding this movie is made with an intention to make people laugh the jokes are far from doing so. The movie itself usually refers to the classic movies or his own movies but it is not made cleaverly or in a humorous way rather with a play with words. There is neither a meaningful scenerio, rather we see a chaos among the references and most famous Turkish artists. In my opinion, this movie was made only for self satisfaction of the writer Cem Yilmaz who proved that his understanding of humour is outdated and archaic. I felt so disappointed for the waste of the talents in this movie and my own time.

Do not listen to ruthless criticism. it is a movie that will take place in the upper rows. These kinds of movies should be watched in the cinema. The musics in movie was very good. i recommend to watch this movie without any prejudices. and congratulations on making this movie.

That was fabulous . Good people are only in movies ? Is that true ? You can watch whole movie with a smile on your face . Great work . From my point of view; there are lots of scenarists who must learn sth from Cem Yilmaz . Of course there are some critical points. But; if you will look at the big picture you will not even see. Thanks for reading . Enjoy the movie!!!

It was weak compared to the other films in the series. At the same time, the ending was a bit boring. But I watched this movie in the cinema. In "Nizami Cinema". In Baku's best cinema by design. The movie was average, but I like Cem Yilmaz movies.

Ever since G.O.R.A. Cem Yilmaz's production quality decreased bit by bit and with this film it hit rock bottom. The film gave me a few chuckles here and there, but failed to really entertain as a whole. Cem Yilmaz can still crack a smart joke and make you think. The nostalgia part was too long and didn't really click with the rest of the movie. It felt pointless and overplayed. There were plot holes here and there but nothing major. I would like to see more of Ceku but she got so little screen time. It's like she became a wife and a mother and her life ended. She gets rescued by the hero, then sits home taking care of the children forever while her husband is out there having adventures and traveling through time and stuff. Pretty good example of a turkish man's mindset and view on women.
I wasn't super bored or anything, I wasn't really entertained either, just had time to kill and this helped. Gave it 4 stars compared to other turkish films came out at the time which were so terrible I wouldn't even be able to watch for 5 minutes.

This movie based on Absurdities and the qualities of the Turkish Culture. It is very detailed; some scenes are ridiculing the things that go awry in our daily life, some scenes are glorifying the old ways of the culture and respectful attitude of the old times. But at the same time it is ridiculing the naivety of the old picture movies.
There is no Sci-fi reasoning... So there are lots of things that makes no sense. So do not watch by that definition... The aim is not explaining the story by making sense. Using the absurd and trying to tell a story about respect.
The movie is saluting the old masters of the Turkish Cinema and Music World. Trying to remind the things we forgot or ignore.
Usage of Cliches are very detailed you may not catch all of the references. But you can understand that they worked very hard.
And movie salutes the old Turkish Theater by converting a scene into a stage and giving a warm tirade addressed to the audience.
Only negative thing I can think of is, Ending part feels a bit long.

Boring.
Yes it was really boring. I could not leave the theatre before the end since it was not free.
I am not the kind of guy who thinks he has to love a Cem Yilmaz movie just because he is Cem Yilmaz's.
His time is up. As his fans are getting older, he is straying further away the new generation. That is natural selection.
