Still one of the Best Nigerian films of 2017
itu_baba10 July 2017
Isoken is a great film showcasing the culture of the area of the country. The layout, filming, colors and dressing tell much of the tradition quite well. The film has quite a good inject of laughter and great acting (Isoken, her mother, black boyfriend). However, like most Nigerian films, it becomes too predictable and by halfway, you can guess the end. which is usually a Cinderella ending. the last 10 minutes do the most harm to the film: flying out the next day and the whole family rushing out to meet the new bf at a party ??. Not in nature of the culture around here.

The film is a worthy film of Nigeria and great to learn some of the culture. Especially about weddings and how they are planned. Great work. Expect a better 2nd part someday

I loved loved watching this movie with its excellent plot, screenplay directing and Dakore and the cast delivered so well on the acting. Our culture and heritage was fully represented.Oscar worthy if it was in indigenous category. Definitely a 10/10 for me

Fantastic

This for me is way better than all the over hyped nollywood wedding party, Chief daddy and what-have-you. The humour wasn't forced, it came about naturally. Fantastic acting and great plot. Really enjoyed it.

Two Thumbs Up. "Isoken meets Something New"
KATO-SUBZERO3 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
3 May 2020: Since last year 2019, I have been watching a lot of movies or t.v shows made in Kenya or Nigeria, Africa. I am a big fan and supporter of Interracial movies between Blacks and Whites or Whites and Asians or Blacks and Hispanic or whatever mixture. So, I knew once I read the plot, I knew that I was going to like it. I have been watching a lot of movies and t.v shows made in Nigeria or Kenya Africa. All of the African Actors/Actresses and writers are really talented. I have been watching pretty African actress, Dakore Egbuson~Akande in an African t.v soap drama, "Fifty". She is quite good and so is African Actress, Adesua Etomi. I really liked it. Damilola Adegbite is stunning.

However, the writer and director probably saw the American version titled "Something New" starring pretty and talented Sanaa Lathan {African American} and Simon Baker {Caucasian-White} This is the Nigerian version and it is also quite nice to watch. Mid way into the film, anyone can figure out how it will end.

brilliant story meets brilliant production
ngandacinema12 October 2023
Isoken is the perfect illustration of brilliant storytelling meets brilliant production.

That traditional wedding scene was a thrilling opening moment of the film. It was crowned with colorful aso ebi plus Flavour's song "Golibe" playing in the background😍😍 It set the tone for the remainder of the movie, we were just dazzled!

No stone was left unturned, everything was executed with meticulous details which is rare in Nollywood. From the work behind the scenes to the front of the scenes, the cast and crew gave 200%.

Dakore Akande (playing Isoken), who usually gives off inconsistent performances, gave her all; she was classy, funny, girly, down-to-earth, but also frustrated and unfulfilled as she wanted to break out of the traditional system.

The dialogues were very poignant addressing the burdensome state of our culture in terms of dating and marriage pressures. We finished Isoken being encouraged to stand for happiness against all odds.

We look forward to more films from Jade!!
