Some Brazilians today pretend to forget about the 1964
mounsieurlapao1 October 2019
This movie is important because many Brazilians today pretend to forget about the 1964 "golpe militar" orchestrated by the USA. "Legalidade" is a romantic and political film that has as its background the city of Porto Alegre, in southern Brazil. I indicate this movie even though it is limited to only one political historical moment in Brazil. "Jango" (politician brasilian) is ridiculed in the movie while "Brizolla" is idolized. Highlight for the actor who played Brizolla (Leonardo Machado). Sex scenes are disconnected with the content of the movie and are desnecessary. My grade is 7/10.

A good film, fair to good...

A good historical film, very interesting aside from the almost coup, it was well developed, faithful and enlightening, however the novel (which I didn't find out if it is fictional or not) gained more relevant contours than the "real official" content itself, it didn't get in the way, it completed and made it lighter, romanticizing it... Leonardo Machado a little after producing this film, sad, I didn't know him, but he proved to be an excellent actor... Naive, low budget but covers relevant territory

In terms of cinema, this is clearly agenda-driven. More important than define a political context, the goal is to point the righteous side pre-Military Coup (Brazil, 1964). Which may be the "right" side indeed, but the heavy hand doctrine is painful.

In fact, Latin American cinema can be the first one to accuse American films of being too simplistic with rights and wrongs, but this is a 'westerner" aiming at show you *the truth* on a platter

Nevertheless, the history chapter from the film is extremely interesting, underrated and rare to find anywhere else outside history books. If you manage some modern Brazilian history, it will relevant. Otherwise, frankly, skip it. You'll be lost between Jangos, Janios, Brizolas and a lot of ideology.
