Extremely boring.
MikeHunt10756 October 2018
It has the right look and tone for a horror movie, the costume design and everything is fine, the acting, editing everything else is all fine... it's the plot that makes this movie suffer.... it's about a woman who gives permission to some group of nuts from youtube to scare the hell out of her.... but it goes back and forth between this event and her past and the payoff is I simply just do not care.

I don't care if she lives or dies, or who else lives or dies, I don't care why this is happening and I really don't care where it's going. I'm.not sure if the actress is too boring for the role or the role is just boring but it's just that, boring as hell.

The rest seems like it's been done before, there's nothing new or interesting, it's trying too hard to be a PG rated looking gore movie and failing at that, it's shock value is falling limp and again, like I said i dont care what happens to anyone here and it's just so Zzzzzzzz

Worth it for the 3rd act
ParabolaofMystery22 September 2020
The first hour plays out as Fincher's THE GAME but directed by Rob Zombie: dumb, loud, and obnoxious. But when the cards are turned over in the last 30 minutes, the film really starts swinging for the fences. So, if you can stand the endless screaming and interminable flashbacks of the first hour, you'll probably be satisfied when it's over.

Not quite the dumpster fire I expected
rt788 February 2020
In the world of terrible horror movies, this wasn't NEARLY as bad as expected. The plot could have been a little less muddy but I sat through "Rubber" (about a killer tire... literally) so I can't complain about this. The general premise of the 'haunt' could have been better executed but there was enough to keep me interested.

The horrors of perdition
TheLittleSongbird20 November 2018
'Extremity' happened to appear in my recommended for you section, and because the idea sounded so fascinating it was difficult for me to say no to watching it. The cover also was a creepy one and the title was attention grabbing. And despite how my previous reviews have looked like, there is absolutely nothing against films made on a low-budget, there have been numerous good ones. Despite how it indicates otherwise, also do appreciate horror, which has seen many great films, even if it is not my favourite genre.

So there was potential for 'Extremity' work. It is said with a heavy heart, not malice or prejudice in any way, that it doesn't...at all. Have seen far worse films of the genre, of similar budget and overall and it is not completely irredeemable, other films have insulted the intelligence more and have been worse looking, written and acted. Not that that is much of an endorsement, there is so much done wrong here in 'Extremity' and to a quite annoying degree.

The setting is spooky and the costume design is decent looking.

It is hard to appreciate both though when the rest of the production values look as though they were made with no care and in haste. The editing especially lacks cohesion, it's too drably lit and there is just no atmosphere or style at all. What little there is of atmosphere is undermined by cheap-sounding and random sound effects that are intrusive in placement and recorded too loud. The music didn't seem to fit and offers nothing unnerving or memorable.

Furthermore, the script is so start-stop awkward and cheesy that it doesn't matter whether you are trying to not take it too seriously, it would stick out like a sore thumb regardless of how one tries to watch the film. The story takes a premise that could have been very creatively, and executes it so ordinarily and dully. Nothing is surprising and 'Extremity' fails to be both interesting or scary thanks to a dull pace and no tension, suspense or creepiness.

Just non-stop obviousness (most of it having been done to death long before the film existed) and ridiculousness, complete with far-fetched and sometimes vague moments and very bland and irritating characters that behave and make decisions in a way that makes one endear to them less. The direction has no personality or distinction, not even rising above competent, while the acting with no exception is not really worth mentioning and not in a good way.

Overall, very bad but have seen worse. 2/10 Bethany Cox

You have to love the logic...
JKolman8 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Lead character goes through hell just to get into the haunted attraction. Signs waivers, gets a doctors note (forged), kneels before the game master and basically sells him her soul, then proceeds to scream "No!", "Stop!" And "Help Me!" as soon as the game begins.

Horrible
Jamesmovieman4 October 2018
Really bad. I love all sorts of horror movies and this was really just terrible. I think they though lots of loud noises would save the movie. They didn't. It was really tough to screw up this movie so badly.

Another STINKER.
psxexperten9 October 2018
Everything from the actors to script to cinematography is bad, you can really feel how low budget this movie is. Not worth watching. The only thrilling thing about this movie is that it ends, poor performance from everyone involved, save your time, stare at the wall instead.

Dumpster fire
colesteinberg22 October 2018
This movie was a trash heap ablaze. Painfully slow-going until it predictably heats up near the end. By the time it gets semi interesting you'll be dizzy and disoriented from the exceuciating amount of poorly acted flashbacks that occur every 30 seconds of the movie. A failed attempt at an edgy horror house gone wrong plot. Honestly an abortion of what seemed to be a good plot idea, with corny acting, weak character development and absolutely leaving you with no desire to know whether anyone lives or dies in the end...you'll pray for this movie to end. I honestly recommend just saving the time and money and watching the Nun or something.

Take your fears in your own hands
ohbebe-658441 December 2018
Not sure why so many have reviewed this low... this is honestly not a bad movie. Watch it and determine for yourself.

A young woman decides to take her life in her own hands and signs up for an extremity haunted house that you give permission to do whatever they want to you. She tells them her deepest, darkest fears and tries to overcome them. But will she make it through the house? Will she endure the pain? Or will she go crazy? You'll have to watch to find out. In the end, sometimes your fears overcome you.

Pretentious, Boring and A Waste of Time
dancberkman4 March 2019
The acting, the pacing, the script, and editing are some of the most ponderous I have ever seen in a lifetime of watching movies in a variety of genres and a myriad of budgets. In a film that promises chills and surprises there are simply are none. Nothing was scary, nothing was learned, there is no character development. I simply don't see a reason why this film needed to exist. Go watch Ruin Me instead because at least you will have way more fun

Not sure what the poor reviewers were expecting
pryorla3 February 2019
I watched this expecting a horror movie with more extreme scares and gore but was pleasantly surprised with good acting and a more complicated plot than. The cinematography was very good. Some scenes were really quite beautifully filmed and juxtaposed with quite horrific scenes which added to the tension. What might be considered somewhat humorous or lighter scenes with the sisters that take the main character for a "run" or the Japanese filmmakers end up being twisted as well. There are many more psychological levels here than most reviewers have given the film credit for. Watch it yourself and keep an open mind.

Psycho much
kosmasp5 August 2020
I don't know if I should be surprised but I am a little bit sad, that the director does not get enough credit for the work he does. Now he's not the Alfred Hitchcock of horror or whatever else name you may conjur up. But he found a niche: psychological horror. Horror that is able to get into your skin, that can make you feel uncomfortable. Like this one on display here.

To get inside ones mind, to be completely emerged and to understand what our main character has to go through is tough. To boil it down to "jump scares" and other simplistic tricks would be a disservice of the movie, the director and the overall intentions here. Yes this may be flawed, yes tastes differ and you still may not like it or the characters involved. That doesn't change the fact that this is done with precision, offers some very fine acting and charisma display, that can make this an interesting watch. Not an easy one (not for the squeamish then), but an interesting one!

Dreadful Z - list nonsense
Hurricane_Marcus21 April 2020
How on earth does this rubbish get made and why on earth do the people who make it bother?..just so bad that it's not even worthy of going straight to dvd,it's the sort of drivel that ends up filling up the horror channel (when the horror channel should be showing more classic stuff)..if I was in this garbage I think i'd give up on acting & look for something more worthwhile career wise...terrible 1 star...even the extra scenes are abysmal.

A travesty of a horror movie...
paul_haakonsen26 December 2020
I must admit that the synopsis for the 2018 horror movie titled "Extremity" definitely sounded interesting, and the synopsis and the movie's cover were the selling points for me. I hadn't heard about the movie prior to sitting down late in 2020 to watch it.

And I managed to endure 30 minutes of the ordeal, then I was ready to claw my eyes out. Wow, this movie was bland and pointless, and nothing worthwhile at all happened in the 30 minutes of torture that I sat through. I simply gave up on the movie out of sheer and utter boredom, and I have absolutely no interest in returning to watch the rest of it.

The acting in the movie was bland, but I doubt it was because the actresses and actors were not good, it was just simply because of the non-existing proper storyline, script and dialogue.

The storyline, at least what I managed to suffer through, was nothing more than just something that seemed like it was made up on the spot as director Anthony DiBlasi attempted to stumble through whatever it was that writer David Bond believed would pass as a functioning horror movie.

"Extremity" was a massive swing and a miss from director Anthony DiBlasi and I must say that you are better off spending your time, money and effort elsewhere if you enjoy horror movies with at least a fair amount of entertainment to it.

My rating of "Extremity" lands on a generous two out of ten stars.

Really rather awful
jmbovan-47-16017325 April 2020
So pretentious and exploitative combine into something that is uncomfortable. Great. Fear as motivator except what is being asked isn't frightening but repulsive. Facing one's fears shouldn't have to include a grotesque retelling of traumas. Emotional breakdown as frightfest fears. There are better movies to watch about frightfests. Please watch any of those instead of this.

not great
timbersparks24 July 2020
The trailer looked decent, and with the popularity of the real torture house (mckamey manor) in the last year, I figured this film would be a hidden gem due to the creative possibilities lended by the plot. it did, however, kick rocks. with unlikable, bland characters, unexplained plot points, confusing editing, mediocre acting, and a desert wasteland for character development, this movie strikes a harsh blow for team low-budget-productions. not worth the time.

The hell experience
bkoganbing23 February 2021
One thing that horror/slasher flicks should never do is bore. But this Canadian production had me within 10 minutes wishing it was over.

Young Dana Christina goes through a horror experience which was planned like they did in Westworld for those who want to be cowboys for a day. But as she goes through it with her friend Dylan Sloane it gets a bit too real.

I never could get into this film. The characters were not engaging in the least. The special effects were cheesy.

Skip this one by.

The superior Extreme Haunt Film.
Bloody-Thumb4 January 2019
While similar in theme to last years Shudder Exclusive Ruin Me, Extremity pays off an ending that blows the competition away. Our lead, Dana Christina is excellent in her role. Without going into spoiler territory she plays some one who had something horrible happen to her in her past and is using an extreme haunt as a sort of therapy to get her through her past trauma. What follows is a really cool psychological study as the lines around her become blurred. Are things in the haunt getting out of control, or is she just getting lost in her trauma and losing touch with reality. It's a fun trip with a Great ending. I've enjoyed all of Anthony DiBlasi's films so far and am looking forward to what he does next.

Sad attempt at horror. Too much crappy music and camera work. Story is too disjointed to make sense. Waste of time

Hit the spot.
shelly-233519 October 2018
I'm a horror movie fan of all the horror sub-genres, and I thought I knew what I was getting into with this one, but I was delightfully wrong. I expected a gore fest, but I gladly got a psychological horror movie that was smart and unique. The gorgeous lead was a huge bonus, plus she was a good actress. I should have bought instead of rented it, because this is one I'll rewatch and will end up buying anyway. This is a great fix for a horror movie addict like me!

Pretty cool
Teddy-Bear-Picnic24 October 2019
There are a lot of these haunt-gone-wrong movies out these days but this one had a gritty mean spirit that the others are lacking in. I really liked the use of colour and the twist worked for me.

Had potential
angelowhite-1631823 April 2020
I will not spoil this because it honestly isn't worth it. I usually write reviews on movies that I believe are either really good or really bad. This was the latter. This movie was pretty solid from the beginning with decent acting; however, midway through the movie it became a train wreck. It leads you to believe one thing is going to happen, but it completely switches up. I know you're thinking that "that's a plot twist", which it is, but it added nothing to the story. The movie is filled with a ton of flashbacks that serve purpose to the movie, but are unexploited to the point where they were only useful for the next five minutes of the movie. I had to actually change my star count after writing this review because just trying to find something good to say about this movie is hard. Still worth it to give a watch because everyone has a difference in opinion and my opinion means very little.

Whoever made this movie needs to stop making movies. Terrible
Into_the_world11 August 2019
I paid to watch this piece of terrible garbage online, and that is the only reason I continued watching this movie until the end. Whoever wrote this movie, knows nothing about being original. Everything in this movie has been done, many times, and over and over before. It is excruciating to sit through this piece of junk. Just a terrible excuse for a movie. Whoever made this movie needs to stop making movies. Did I say it was terrible? It's really bad, and I mean bad. Do not waste your time or money on this. You will be sorry if you do.

Doesn't deserve the one-star ratings
dazhaun-1102112 April 2021
There are a bunch of 1-star reviews for this, but it had good cinematography, good acting, and an original premise.

So it doesn't deserve to be rated that low.

However, it's got a few issues with the plot... I don't like where they decided to go with it in the end. It wasn't believable.

Overall, it was almost worth watching 4.6/10.
