“Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” stars Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Nicolas Cantu and Brady Noon appeared at Comic-Con to preview the teen turtles’ latest adventure — this time a 12-episode series for Paramount+.
The quartet (who reprise their roles from the 2023 movie “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem”) were joined onstage by executive producers and showrunners Chris Yost and Alan Wan (“Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and the 2012 series “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”), as well as Alanna Ubach, who joins the crew as the villainous Bishop.
“It’s an honor to not only be playing a female antagonist, but to be asked to be a part of something that is such a pop culture phenomenon and something that has had so much staying power for the past 40 years,” Ubach told the Comic-Con crowd, saying that she’d been looking to voice a villain because those are the characters that her son,...

A brand-new teaser trailer for Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has been revealed ahead of the cartoon's August 9th debut. And the new footage reveals that Metalhead—a beloved, mechanical "5th Turtle"—will be making his appearance.
Metalhead had earlier appearances in both the animated series from 2012 and the iconic '80s cartoon. The character made his comic book debut in the 2014 Idw Tmnt series, in issue 34, which takes place during the Monsters, Misfits, and Madmen narrative arc.
In the action figure community, in particular, Metalhead has been a fan favorite since its introduction back in the '80s.

Reviving the classic X-Men animated series takes guts. In a list of beloved shows from a bygone era of Saturday Morning television, Marvel’s X-Men stands among select others at the top of Mount Nostalgia, with adamantium claws popped and a dream of equality for mutantkind in its heart. When Marvel announced a return to the fan-favorite animation, it was difficult to imagine the Herculean task of doing justice to the old series while carving a new path. Thankfully, Marvel’s X-Men ’97 launched to rave reviews from critics and fans, and we’ve got the show’s Supervising Producer and Supervising Director, Jake Castorena, to tell us about establishing a new era in mutant-related entertainment.
Speaking with Jake, we discussed the team lineup for X-Men ’97 and who could join the cast. We also talk about how X-Men ’97 is so true to the spirit of the original that...

Exclusive: Actress Kat Graham (The Vampire Diaries) has signed with Untitled Entertainment for management, with partner Evan Hainey to run point on her behalf.
“Funny enough Evan helped start my career well over a decade ago and we have remained good friends ever since,” Graham told Deadline. “I have consistently turned to him for guidance over the years as I navigated my journey in this industry, and he has never steered me wrong. This is a natural alignment. I am very grateful to join forces with a great man and solid friend like him.”
Graham broke out with her series regular role as witch Bonnie Bennett across all eight seasons of The CW’s supernatural teen drama The Vampire Diaries, which aired between 2009 and 2017. Developed by Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec, the show based on L.J. Smith’s books had her starring alongside Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder, and more.

This article contains major spoilers for "Lisa Frankenstein."
Hollywood has its eyes on "Lisa Frankenstein." The '80s horror comedy marks the feature directorial debut of Zelda Williams, the return of Diablo Cody to the teen horror comedy subgenre for the first time in 15 years, and has the potential to be the first big box office hit of 2024. If you had told me four years ago that one day an '80s-set zombie rom-com featuring "Freaky" star Kathryn Newton and Cole "Jughead Jones" Sprouse would be one of the most anticipated releases of the year, I'd wonder how you got a time machine and where you put my diaries.
Given its tone and delightfully odd story, "Lisa Frankenstein" is sure to be a polarizing film. It's an '80s film to its core, not just in its setting, but also in its approach to comedy. Many have compared the film...

If audiences are tired of reboots and sequels, that hasn’t stopped them from flocking to see the latest “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” movie. Even as anticipated tentpoles like “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning” and “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” have failed to break even at the box office, Paramount’s “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” managed to recoup half its $70 million budget five days after its release.
The animated movie’s success isn’t totally surprising given its comparatively small budget and stacked cast. But given that the last film featuring this IP, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows,” reportedly lost Paramount around $75 million back in 2016, one can’t help but feel the studio took a risk by betting on “Ninja Turtles” again in 2023.
So is “Mutant Mayhem” succeeding because it’s part of an IP that’s nearly 40 years old, or in spite of it?...

Rose Byrne jumped at the chance to voice Leatherhead in “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” when producer-star Seth Rogen asked her to join the film. “It was ridiculous,” the “Physical” actor tells me. “Seth was like, ‘I want you to do just fully Aussie — just go for it!’
“I was like, ‘I’m going to do my best Eric Bana.’ This is an homage to Eric,” Byrne continues. “It was a group recording, and I’d never done that before for a voice job. Seth was there, and he had such high energy from beginning to end. There’s ‘Mayhem’ in the title, and it was like mayhem. Not in a bad way. It was fun mayhem.”
Byrne joked that her many collaborations with Rogen, which include the 2014 comedy “Neighbors” and Apple TV+’s “Platonic,” don’t have her husband, Bobby Cannavale, worried. “He’s our biggest cheerleader,” she says.

This post contains spoilers for "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem."
From its inception, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" was a malleable franchise, one that has never stopped being reinvented. After being introduced in a dark and gritty comic book, an homage and parody of superhero comics of the time, the Turtles became toys and their design and story changed. The same would happen once the Turtles made the jump to animation in the '80s, with a cartoon that introduced new characters, new personalities, backstories, and more. Since then, each new iteration of the "Tmnt" has changed things, like when Shredder became an alien, or the first time Splinter went from being a pet rat to a human turned into a rat.
As much as things change, some things stay the same, like the relationship between the Turtles and Splinter or the look of the Turtles. They've always sort of looked the same,...

The following contains major spoilers for "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem."
"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem" is a bold new take on the popular Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, one that builds on previous iterations while adding a fresh new look and focusing on things that previous iterations haven't always paid close attention to. For one, this is a movie that truly highlights the teenage aspect of the turtles, giving them each a unique personality that even reflects in their character design.
Granted, unique looks were a big part of "Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," but "Mutant Mayhem" builds on it by also having actual teenagers voice the characters. In a relatively rare move for an animated film, "Mutant Mayhem" also had its young cast record together, which added a sense of camaraderie and youthfulness to the characters that wasn't there before. By now, five years after the release of "Into the Spider-Verse," it is fair to say that we have a new normal in American studio animation. That movie opened the doors for animated films to look like concept art, to go wild in styles and textures, and not just copy the same hyperrealistic 3D CG style. We saw that in "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish," we saw that with "The Mitchells vs. the Machines" and now it is time for new turtles to rise with "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem."
The first new "Tmnt" since the end of "Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," in many ways, "Mutant Mayhem" feels like an extension of the ideas introduced in that show, from the focus on the early days of the turtles to having bold new designs that differentiate each turtle physically. But "Mutant Mayhem" really benefits from a...

It seems Paramount and Nickelodeon have got a fever, and the only prescription is more "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles." Ahead of the August 2, 2023 theatrical release date of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem," Variety reports that a sequel is already in development. This isn't surprising, considering the film ends with a big tease, and considering that it is one of the best animated movies of the year. Director Jeff Rowe and the team at Mikros Animation deliver a visually stunning film that delivers rebellious teen attitude, while a script by Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit, as well as Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, reinvents the iconic characters by focusing on them being actual teens discovering their place in the world.
Perhaps more surprisingly (albeit equally as inevitable) is the news that a TV spin-off of "Mutant Mayhem" is now in development for Paramount+, titled "Tales of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies are developing a sequel to “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” and planning a two-season series that will serve as a “bridge” between the films. The spinoff series, titled “Tales of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” will appear on Paramount+.
It’s a sign of how bullish the studio is feeling about “Mutant Mayhem,” an animated adventure that opens theatrically on August 2. Paramount and Nickelodeon chief Brian Robbins has made rebooting the Turtles a top priority after the live-action film franchise ran out of steam with 2016’s “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows.”
The sequel will be produced by Point Grey Pictures and directed by Jeff Rowe, who is also the director and co-writer of “Mutant Mayhem.” Point Grey Pictures is also producing the Paramount+ series. Exclusive: Fresh off the series finale of CBS’ True Lies, Omar Miller has entered production in Italy on Naples to New York, an indie based on a story penned in the 1940s by a young Federico Fellini, who was not yet a filmmaker, and his longtime friend and collaborator Tullio Pinelli.
Set in 1949, this is a story of two children who set off on a journey across the ocean, as stowaways on a ship, looking for a family and opportunity in America. Along the way, they encounter characters both well-meaning and nefarious, who cement their faith in humanity. Miller plays George, an American cook on an international merchant ship who befriends our two young Italian stowaways. He’s a gentle giant with great comedic timing, and a strong sense of humanity.
Gabriele Salvatores is directing from his own script, with Paco Cinematografica, Isabella Cocuzza and Arturo Paglia serving as exec producers.

One of the most anticipated animated movies of the year is "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem," the latest attempt to bring the heroes in a half-shell to the big screen once again. The prospect of more Tmnt is alluring in and of itself, as this is a franchise that has continued to remain popular with new generations — thanks to newer adaptations like "Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" — but still draws in the nostalgia crown with memories of past adaptations.
"Mutant Mayhem" in particular has a big ace up its sleeve: its visuals. From the very first images that debuted at Annecy last year, it was clear that this movie was trying to stand apart from other adaptations of the original Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird comic book. Directed by "The Mitchells vs. The Machines" co-director Jeff Rowe, the 3D-animated film uses a stylish, graphic visual language that...

Despite Netflix’s considerable investment in creating original content, a majority of its most popular shows remain licensed from outside networks.

During this same period, the demand share of original content among the top 25 shows on the platform decreased to 24.9% in the first quarter of 2023, the lowest it has been in recent years, according to Parrot Analytics’ data, which takes into account consumer research, streaming, downloads and social media, among other engagement.

Animation, in general, still doesn't get the respect it deserves, although things are changing for the better on that front thanks to folks like Guillermo del Toro (whose mantra that animation is an artistic medium and not a genre for kids has become a rallying cry among us animation lovers). But it's not just animation itself that's regarded as being inferior to live-action. Voice acting is a form of creative expression that requires just as much specialized skill and practice as live-action acting, if not more so. As we've seen time and time again, big-name stars and A-listers who are relative novices to the animation game are rarely a satisfying substitute for veteran voice actors — and certain roles simply demand the sort of expertise you can only really gain from years of voice-only performances.
Despite this, the biggest actors in Hollywood are steadily invited to try their hand at playing animated characters,...

No matter if your screen is big or small, you just can't keep the heroes in a half-shell off of it. Following the release of the new logo on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle's Instagram account, the trailer for the new movie, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem" has arrived.
The film is directed by Jeff Rowe, co-writer of "The Mitchells vs The Machines" and several episodes of "Gravity Falls" and "Disenchantment." The film is produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg; as children of the 1980s, the pair would have grown up at the height of Turtle-mania.
Rogen has said the film will be "deeply personal," and highlight the "teenage" part of these heroes. The script is credited to Brendan O'Brien, who co-wrote the 2014 Rogen comedy vehicle "Neighbors." This isn't Rogen's first foray into animation — he was a writer and producer on 2016's "Sausage Party" — but I imagine that...

Cowabunga! The team has officially been assembled for "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem," and it's very impressive. The upcoming Paramount film hails from "The Mitchells vs. The Machines" director Jeff Rowe, who based the aesthetic on sketches he made in the margins of his school notebooks. Likely following in the footsteps of recent animated movies — which have become more experimental when it comes to blending 2D with 3D CGI — the film delves into the lives of everyone's favorite crime-fighting ninja turtles, bringing them back to the big screen for the first tie in a decade.

After almost three absurdly long years, “Stranger Things” Season 4 is just around the corner. A tentpole series for Netflix — at a whopping production cost of reportedly 30 million per episode — the fan-favorite sci-fi show that launched its young adult cast, led by Millie Bobby Brown and Finn Wolfhard, into superstardom will be dropping new episodes May 27.
And, according to the Emmy-winning series’ executive producer Shawn Levy, it’s going to be “harrowing,” “cinematic” and “epic.” He told TheWrap in a recent interview, “This is so much more story and runtime than ever before, not by a little. By a lot.”
The last month of spring will also see the return of reality series titles like “The Circle” — a social media-driven competition series where players catfish, befriend and flirt with each other with the aim of winning a grand cash prize — and “Bling Empire” — which centers on a group of uber-wealthy Asian American friends in Beverly Hills.

Seth Rogen, who is producing with his Point Grey partners Evan Goldberg and James Weaver, unveiled the date Tuesday in a Twitter post, along with some “notes” from Leonardo, one of the four shelled heroes at the center of the kids franchise.
There were no other details provided aside from some doodling in the margins of the notes, which featured words like honor, loyalty and discipline which are staples of the Turtles mythology. There’s also a note to “apologize to April,” a nod to the journalist who helps the quartet fight crime.

Two very different animated features lead the way as the 48th annual Annie Awards nominations were announced today. Disney/Pixar’s Soul and Cartoon Saloon’s Wolfwalkers scored 10 noms apiece ahead of the virtual trophy show on April 16. Read the full list of nominees in 31 categories below.
Wolfwalkers, a “relatively small European movie,” as the filmmakers described it — is rooted in the history of 1650s Ireland, while Soul follows a middle school music teacher’s journey to “the Great Beyond” via “the Great Before.”
Soul will vie for the marquee Best Feature prize at the Annies, going up against another Pixar pic — Onward, which scooped seven noms — along with Netflix’s The Willoughbys and a pair of DreamWorks Animation sequels: The Croods: A New Age and Trolls World Tour.
