Pensive and gripping

My wife of 20+ years is from Albania, so I'm obsessed with all things Albanian. This film should capture any moviegoer's attention, but I found it particularly moving due to the history and people involved.

The main character, a political prisoner, is the hero of the film. With the exception of his guard, even the hardline comrades are presented as complex and human, struggling to find their place in post-Hoxha, pre-democratic Albania. I'm no expert, but I believe the film to be an accurate portrayal of the conflicts that must have existed in the characters at this time in history. The film also did a great job of feeling lke 1990, not 2018.

Beautiful scenery, and a great script. I am very much interested in the backstory. I hope the director makes more films.
