Pretty well done and sweet!
Irishchatter3 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I thought this anime was very good, the characters Akira and Mr Kondo were just so very sweet together. You know, regardless of their ages, it wouldn't matter to me if they were dating because you can tell they were so in love with each other but couldn't show it. I mean age is just only a black and white number at the end of the day, honestly! I really wish they were confident enough to show the world they love each other to bits, but just are too afraid of what society thinks about them!

Definately recommending this anime to watch if you want to waste your time on being less bored or are a fan of romantic anime!

This anime made me take a long look at myself

(8/10) An emotional slice of life that has a bitter sweet ending and it's fair share of drama. After The Rain was moving due to the losses the characters faced and their journeys to not give up on what they failed at but to go back and see it through.

boring. The other reviews that say this aren't lying
masonfewel15 December 2021
The first two episodes were really good, The art was really good, and the music was pretty good. Everything else was just plain boring.

The relationship between the two "love interests" sucks, not because of their age difference but because they have ZEROOOO chemistry. They even stopped developing their relationship abaout halfway through because the writers realized how crap it was. "I love you" "sorry lol" "I still love you" "I guess you're pretty cool" and then 6 episodes of nothing was how their relationship went. The 45 year old guy, everything to do with him was so BORING. His development was literally "I love books. Can I still write books?" And they spend like 3 episodes on that. I really liked the storyline of tachibana (mc), her injury, and her relationship with her friend, but they somehow found a way to drag that out too. And they pretty much only half resolved that conflict, without showing us any real results!

Let me reiterate this: this show is not bad because of the age difference between the two main characters, it's bad because it's just plain boring.

Deeper story than just romance - Amazing 10/10 - Just try it!
allaboutyourtrees16 March 2018
I stumbled upon this one in amazon Prime and can't recommend it enough. The topic of loving someone older/younger than you is a sensitive subject, but most of us have had crushes on teachers or bosses at one point or another so its easily relatable for most of us I would say. It is handled with innocence and well just perfectly (this isn't a trashy anime). The underlying theme is of dreams and what happens when we give up on them (I won't go into details of those hopes/dreams to be spoiler free). Akira and Mr. Kondo are both dealing with loss of hope or loss of dreams. Mr. Kondo is awakened to possibilities (brought back to life you might say) by Akira's reminding him of what it felt like to be young. The romance/friendship is sweet and innocent and just makes me laugh. The writing and voice acting are just out of this world good! Maybe its just the time in my life and this is the story I needed to experience right now (a small theme in one of the episodes btw) but I haven't enjoyed an anime quite this much in a while. I'm currently 10 episodes in and absolutely enthralled! Highly recommended for anyone who has had dreams that weren't realized or love that you just couldn't get out of your head. Oh the music and art are amazing and really do amazing things to my heart strings. Try it! Yes I'm an older dude who likes anime. Sue me. Japanese anime culture is just fascinating to me.

For you before you watch
lucasdidonatis19 March 2018
Okay, 4th review so far. This anime starts off with a 17 year old girl who falls in love with her 45 year old boss. There´s no point on giving out more information and, as you will find out if you keep reading, this didn´t seem to be the main argument of this story.

My philosophy: you can always find something in an anime that you´ve never seen before, and for me that´s enough to make it a worthy watch (which is why i´d never tell anyone not to watch an anime). However, there are some things you need to know before you watch. This anime caught me off guard, it´s not finished yet (only 10 episodes so far), but i think i´ve seen enough to make a helpfull review.

I´m new to this genre, but i decided to give this anime one shot mainly because i wanted to see the outcome of the strange situation that it presents. I must say during first episodes i felt the temptation of leaving it. The opening is awfull, it´s childish and stupid, and doesn´t fit for this anime at all. For the first few episodes i felt disappointed because i guessed there had to be a strong reason for this girl being in love with their boss, and i didn´t like the characters nor the way they were introduced.

Having said that, i´m glad i continued watching. This anime is not only about a young girl loving an old man. It´s about an interesting conception of youth and oldness beyond age itself. It´s about dreams and hopes for the future and the way they can affect us. It´s about friendship and trying to move on when we are in a tough spot. I havent finished this series yet, but i will as soon as the new episodes comes out. The last episodes were amazing, showing extremelly mature reasonings from several characters and a way to percieve the world that stunished me.

The more i watched, the more i liked the characters and it´s development. The sountrack is excelent (the opening doesnt count) and the animation is full of detail aswell. I don´t know how this is going to end, but i must say so far i´m pleased. It´s a 9/10 for me, and if you are into this kind of romance genre, i´m sure you will like it. Specially recomended if you have seen and liked the movie "Garden of Words" (and if you saw this anime but you didn´t see garden of words, waiste no more time and watch it, i consider it to be one of the best romance masterpieces ever crafted). Thanks for reading!

Its pretty good but as usual, the guy is too afraid to do anything.
fortekosakku-3312912 August 2022
Sometimes the music and imagery inspired some deep thinking and feeling. Typical of anime, this is 99 percent of any power it has. It keeps you interested only to find that nothing happens. Also typical of modern anime.

Agree with others here - great anime that reaches deep... if you give it the chance.
datboy6911 June 2018
Starts off slow and at the beginning you feel as if you've walked into the middle of something. But then you're "caught up" and can follow along. I think the themes and feelings are extremely relatable for anyone - whether young or old. Binged watched it on Amazon Prime as I simply couldn't stop watching. I'm extremely happy that I did! My only disappointment was that there are only 12 episodes as I want to continue to see what happens to the characters. I'm another old dude that is finding myself drawn to not just your action-packed anime's but to this genre as well. And for me, this one didn't let me down.

It's a beautiful story
Amelilie24 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
At first I want to say how pleasantly surprised I was by this anime. I didn't expect such a beautiful story.

The serie doesn't start of as deep as it will become later on. But in my opinion it needs this slow and kind of shallow beginning. We, as the viewers, know Akira and Masami only as well as they know each other.

As the story moves on they get to know each other better and so do we. They both seem to be at a part of their life where they don't allow themself to dream or have hope. Its like the are weighted down by reality and feel like they can't live up to the person they once were.

What I realy liked is the way the serie uses metaphors in a beautiful way. I'm not completely sure if i was just slow to catch the metaphors or if they are ment to be hidden at the beginning and come together at the end.

The rain seems like the main metaphor at the beginning, but later on it's about the sky symbolizing Akiras and Masamis dreams. While the charakters feel like dreams lay in the past there is always rain.

Then there comes the time when they slowly start to think and consider their dreams again. There is the story of an sparrow looking at the sky after its siblings flew of. After some time it follows them. Akira asks what would have happend if it stayed. She wonders if, after some time, the sparrow would have forgotten the sky. But Masami says it would have look up to the sky for the rest of its life, wondering how it feels to fly. Akira being the younger one seems to think she will forget about her dream. While Masami being older knows they will look at the sky forever.

While this are two prominet metaphors there are plenty of smaller ones. I also think it makes sense to watch the serie a second time to see what I might have missed at the start.

Overall the story isn't about a student having a crush for an older guy and I'm really thankful for that. Instead it is a journey of losing and finding hope, of growing older and being young in a way that doesn't have to do with age or the time that went by. It is about how they tought each other to dream again. So they end up being someonen special for the other one but in a different way than conevtional love. They left a fingerprint on eachothers stories. As said in the outro "If we never touched, would we be smiling now?".

Overall the outro is utterly beautiful and I recommend to listen to it completly for at least one time. It realy adds to the feeling of the story and compliments it well.

I could say a lot more about the anime but I guess it is better to just watch yourself. I might not do it justice anyway.

boring
Maybe this show is amazing after the first episode, I don't care. This show starts off so unbelievably boring I don't see how you could get past episode one. The character designs are incredibly ugly for the most part, and the music seems to be designed to be as boring as possible. Just thinking about this show makes me bored. I wouldn't recommend it, unless you can somehow get past the abysmal first episode, and the rest are somehow watchable.

Beautiful story, wish there was a sequel to this anime!
jmjjmj38 December 2018
A heartfelt story of two characters who find each other at different stages of their lives. Both had given up on their dreams but after meeting each other, they develop a new zeal for life. The story cleverly weaves humor amid a tender emotional backdrop. Plenty of suspense as plot keeps you guessing. Highly recommended watch.

Love is like after the rain, like after the rain.
en-1184318 March 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Love is like after the rain, like after the rain. The feeling of love, is like after the rain, sunshine and warm. The ending of love, is like after the rain, stop and refrain. The anime is the best of the best literature and art and love anime in these years. There are too many advantages to be listed in here. When watching the anime, you feel like reading some meaningful prose, like those written by Chinese literature Lu Xun. Again, there are too many advantages. I picked the one is the most easily be overlooked. Imagery. The anime is very outstanding and successful in the use of imagery. Every episode is using a lot of Imagery to implicates and expresses emotions and endings. Some imagery even has more than three different levels of meaning, implicating and functioning. The feeling is so marvelous if you can find those imagery. The anime is so magnificent.

Diffrent from first impresion !
Rishishinde317 July 2023
You might get impression that this is about some unconventional love story between an middle age man and hopeless teen girl , but its deeper than that and you need to give it a chance with open heart to understand it on next level than just a romantic manga.

For me this story is lot more than just a love story , its a story of down and ups and hope and sadness and you will realise it as you gear towards the end, i really cant eloborate more than this due to spoilers .

For the people who found it boring might not be patient enough for actual good and deep story for them i tell that give it proper time and attention and it will be the best story you ever heard .

Starts off good, but inevitably ends
juliendussault16 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I like this series for the most part, but the ending was just very lackluster and boring, and most of the show was lackluster and boring as well. I really thought this was going to be more than just a story about a high school girl going through changes in her life, they made it seem like it was going to be a romantic comedy from the get-go when that's just not the case.

The only real romantic you get within the first three episodes and the rest of it is a 45 year old man and a 17 year old girl trying to have conversations and trying to understand each other's feelings, which they both miserably fail at.

I would say this is with your time if you have nothing else to watch, but other than that I don't think it's worth anyone's time. It's forgettable and boring and the ending is just stupid. I still don't understand how this has such high ratings.

B4 you watch.. Watch the English voiced casted version
amandamcfarland00811 September 2021
I watched both the subtitled Japanese voiced and English voiced versions of this show. While the essence of the show is still the same. I have to say two huge different experiences.

The first obvious is that the script is actually a little different which leaves alternative empact to the audience, especially on a romance genre. Obviously in most anime the jokes are changed to target toward western audiences but in this case they added subtle ones that make it much more funnier during the awkward and slow moments.. The voice directing and voice actors in the English version went above and beyond and it defininately shows. In the Japanese voice cast there is a lot of silence in places where there could have been more emphasis making the show feel a little slow paced at times and I understand why some people are saying they don't understand why the show was rated so high.

Usually watching two different versions of an anime never really has a dramatic difference but this one definitely did. I would say if you are going to watch this sure be sure to watch the English cast version it is just so much much more colorful and lively.

Heart Touching
IPyaarCinema22 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Review By Kamal K

It all started with a broken ankle and faithful encounter over coffee.

Story: (9/10) Simple, sweet, makes my heart flutter. Like pumpkin custard pudding or black and white cats with white socks or chocolate banana crepes.

This blissful story follows our main protagonist, Akira Tachibana, through her life as a 17 year old high school student. Though she used to be the top athlete in track and field at her school unfortunately after an injury she no longer runs. This has changed her high school life as she overcomes broken relationships and creates new ones.

During a faithful encounter on a rainy day, Kondou meets Tachibana and it gives life to the girl with the broken ankle. With nothing else to do in her high school life she gets a job working with her boss, Kondou, who she secretly has a huge crush on.

At the Garden Cafe she finds a new meaning to happiness and looks forward to working with everyone there. Or, that is what she thought. Apparently having a crush on your boss, and working along side the boy who has a crush on you is harder than it looks.

Art: (9/10) The art is very pleasing to look at. Often reminding me of old anime styles, giving a soft nostalgic feeling. It may have nothing special to it but if you look closely you can see how elegant the designs in her eyes are. Especially during heart fluttering moments, the anime wastes no time in showing us her emotions through the art, as if it had a daydream effect. Beautiful.

Character: (8/10) Akira Tachibana, aside from her normal life she is a serious and awkward teen who might seem too uptight but is just shy. Aside from being shy, when she smiles I bet she could light up a room. Especially the way the anime lights up my screen during heartwarming moments. The anime portrays subtle clues that she is lonely and she isolates herself.

She loves rainy days the most out of anything, on the other hand Kondou does not like rainy days.

Konou Masami is her manager who has a bald spot on the back of his head. He is just as socially awkward as Tachibana. Often having to frantically apologize for everything, he definitely shows the father in him. He should since he does have a son and is divorced. One could picture how lonely he must be living alone and working much harder than he should. One thing is for certain, there are many more things to him that meet the eye than being an "old man".

Enjoyment: (10/10) After watching the first episode I jumped right into the ongoing manga series. Although a lot is portrayed differently in the anime than the manga it is still played out nicely. They add quite a bit to the managers personality into the anime and I can definitely agree with their decision.

I find it easy to watch Koi wa Ameagari no You ni without being bored, it makes me smile unexpectedly. To think that all of this happened because of a broken ankle.

Not just a love story
This series does not just show how a impossible love may be, it shows how two different people can reach their abandoned dreams. The characters development is totally amazing and they are deeper than you can believe in the first or two episodes.

I highly recommend this anime, because it's not just a love story, is so much bigger than that.
