Superb!
Voo-Doo11 March 2017
This is huge fun to watch. The writing is fresh and amusing and the mockumentary-style acting is utterly brilliant. The brother and sister really do pull-off an exceptional job of bouncing off each other in such a deadpan way. Their real-life father effortlessly performs his role as an unsavoury but hugely entertaining character.

If you like The Office and Alan Partridge, this series is a must watch.

Awesome!

Unique and absolutely hilarious
Jojosussex25 April 2017
This is one pf my favorite series EVER. We laughed out loud so many times. When Kerry asks her mother to describe a BLT whilst arguing with her cousin over oven space is a classic scene. This is a more Derek than the Office and the pace is sometimes slower which also allows enough time to make the characters likable. In the end you laugh with them, not at them.

The 10 will come if series 2 will be released

Fabulous !!

Takes a little while to get into the characters but it's worth it. Two episodes in and I couldn't stop watching and saw both series in one sitting - it's that good.

Along the lines of The Detectorists but with more humour and better character development. The Cooper family are a revelation and I hope they write and produce a lot more like this.

The best British mockumentary in years!
Daibh14 March 2017
Fans of 'The Office', 'People Just Do Nothing' and 'Summer Heights High' will recognise the mockumentary format and enjoy the unapologetic realism of Charlie and Daisy May Cooper's 'This Country'.

We follow the lives of Kerry and Kurtan Mucklowe, two cousins living in a rural Cotswolds village. Much of the show's humour centres on the love/hate relationship between the cousins (played by real-life siblings and show creators, Daisy May Cooper and Charlie Cooper), who typically squabble over the most seemingly insignificant things; anything from the spelling of 'Justice' to who gets what space in the oven. Despite their differences, the two are fiercely loyal to one another, and this is exemplified by the way they often band together against the trappings of their pastoral locale.

Across the episodes, we are introduced to a host of colourful characters; from a terrifying neighbour with a licence to ink, Mandy, to the unfailingly patient locale vicar, Reverend Seaton, who does his best to keep the wayward cousins on the straight and narrow. It's a real microcosm of rural life that attempts to add more depth to the cultural stereotypes put forward by the likes of 'The Vicar of Dibley'.

For though there are laughs aplenty throughout the show, there are also subtle and often heartbreaking moments that resonate long after the laughter stops. Kerry's unrequited affection for her father, for instance, or Kurtan's foiled romantic endeavours. These are characters we grow to love and feel sorry for, which, in a six-episode run is something of a feat for a mainstream writing debut.

Quite what the future holds for this series is anyone's guess. I think there are more stories to tell and more characters to meet. One thing is for certain, however: Daisy May and Charlie Cooper have embroidered themselves into the rich tapestry of British comedy, and have proved to be formidable writers and actors with lots more to offer.

Watch the show by any means necessary.

Hilarious!

This is the only review i have ever wrote on IMDb and here is why. This show, in my opinion has not had the recognition that it deserves. It is a fresh, crisp and comical series which is great fun to watch and will have you laughing, loudly from start to finish. The 2 main characters, despite being delinquents, are surprisingly lovable and portrayed brilliantly!

Many a laff to be had
esthercross21 March 2017
I tend to find I don't laugh out loud when I'm watching comedy's on my own but I was crying with laughter sat by myself through every episode and for that I just had to give it a ten. The series writers brilliantly capture a specific region of the country with characters very unlike myself, and yet I still found the dialogue really observant. The humour was often that great mix of being silly yet perceptive. I really like how understated the settings and story lines where it really brought out the strength of the writing and performances. I also thought the structure of each episode was really strong as each one came to a satisfying conclusion often with an emerging reference to something that was said or done at the start and through out there was never a line or comic moment wasted!

UNSURPASSABLE

Quite simply one of the funniest programs ever. A beautiful comedy in the same vein as The Detectorists. Appears to be subtle, then you realise you've been hit with a seven pound sledgehammer. Utterly utterly brilliant.

A superb insight into Rural life and a testament to BBC Three comedies.
maxthomas-9048318 April 2017
This Country is superb, from its close nit family cast to its true to life episode content.

Kerry and Kurtan are a superb duo who tell a typical story of living in the Cotwolds, their issues are typical things which others may encounter living their ordinary lives in a rural community.

I hope there is a second season of this comedy to continue the stories.

Paul who plays the vicar/priest is superb and really helps make the stories believable.

All in all a very easy watch, some swear words but it adds weight to certain situations.

Simple but brilliant

This Country is very simple focusing on a few characters but it's so funny. It's written and acted brilliantly. The facial expressions make it, they are hilarious. Please do film a fourth series in the near future.

excellent stuff

Loved this series, hope they get the nod to make another 6 episodes. I was a little unsure after the first 10 minutes of episode 1, being new to the characters I instantly noticed a striking similarity between Kurten and Gareth Keenan from The Office which I found a little alarming, but as I became more familiar with the show, it gradually grew on me. One of the unsung hero's of this program is the unseen mum of Kerry Mucklowe, all you hear is the strains of the mother coming from her bedroom shouting at her daughter..and in one episode, a Playstation comes flying out of the window. It's a big shame that this series didn't get a much wider audience , I only happened to hear about it via an interview with the main actor/writer Daisy May Cooper on my local BBC news show 'Points West', it definitely deserves a 2nd showing on BBC2 at a much more reasonable time than the 11:30 BBC1 slot it was getting after Match of the Day on Saturday night. This show is a little gem.

This is our country!

Fantastic show. Extremely well rounded comedy series, as you follow the main characters through their ups and downs. Happy moments, sad moments all sprinkled with nice dash of British humour. This is British comedy at its best and really shines a light in rural communities in England. Definitely worth a watch. Strong 7*

Not for me.

I bought the box set having missed it on TV and wish I hadn't bothered.

I didn't laugh once, and actually found it depressing. If that's life in rural Britain of today, you can keep it.

This is absolutely hilarious- everything about it is perfectly considered and is such an accurate representation of British rural life. Some of the best and most relatable lines I've ever heard- give it a watch.

A future classic
redmille14 October 2018
This Country is proof that the UK are still the works leaders in acting, scriptwriting and comedy. Complete unknowns have managed to create the finest TV for many years with a budget smaller than US sitcoms spend on doughnuts! All the cast and crew should be rightly proud of what they have created.

Hadn't laughed at a comedy for ages
eppie060812 April 2020
I was scanning through Stan, looking for something to watch, and this came up. Had no expectations. I thought I would just watch the 1st episode, but 2 mins and I was addicted. I was laughing so much at Kerry and Kurtan, and their daily life, but I also was touched by their problems and their lives. Was one of the best tv series I have seen in years, and it was great that Daisy and Charlie who wrote it, played the main characters. Spectacular

A work of understated genius
ryan-593-78791322 July 2019
This is probably the first comedy since the Office that I've cried laughing at. The characters, timing and production style are all brilliantly conceived - and while aspects are definitely borrowed in places from other works, they are blended together here so well that I fell in love with it after just one episode. There's so much potential for this to become a classic.

Solid but far too derivative
Ruskington20 September 2020
This Country certainly has its moments but overall it just feels like a mash-up of various British comedies. Kurtan is hugely reminiscent of the amazing Gareth Keenan character played by Mackenzie Crook in The Office, so much so that it is hard to remember which show you are watching at times. The storylines are decent and the cast do a good job but overall the show just doesn't have enough identity to really stand out.

E for effort
andrew_hra15 March 2017
I'm a huge fan of the original Office, Alan Partridge and Peepshow. This Country is no where near that league. Didn't laugh once.

The acting is okay, but the script is lacking the cleverness of shows other reviews have compared it too.

That said, I did only watch the first episode and I could barely get through it.

Honestly I don't know what to say about this show, I've rewatched the 2 series easily about 4 times, each time laughing at something new. Daisy and Charlie cooper, really bravo, the writing, performances and characters are unforgettable. In my opinion this is easily on par with the office. Absolutely brilliant!
