The plot may not seem interesting, but the show seems to acknowledge the fact the eSports are somewhat silly to begin with. If you guys enjoy Rocket Jump's VGHS, and love watching Game Grumps, you'll probably like this show as well. I thought the cast was very well chosen. Even though I hated Kamal, he played his role perfectly and did what was intended. The only character that I wish could've been executed or written better was Arin's character Ryland. For those who love Arin's work as Egoraptor or with Game Grumps, it's a common fact the Arin is lovable and totally hilarious. Arin is also an incredible voice actor, but this character seemed to hold him back. Arin's face is pretty monotone for the whole show unless something major happens. Dan seemed to really shine in this show for me, which is probably because his character (Alex) is much like his actual self. I think another thing that may make people less satisfied is the fact that Dan Harmon's name was on the poster and it wasn't as good as Community or Rick & Morty. The fact is, Harmon was a creator and writer for those shows, not just an executive producer. Given the experience of the creators and writers of Good Game, this show really isn't bad. Overall, I'm glad this show was made, and with the last episode (which was probably the best episode), it made me excited for next season. This is definitely one of the best shows on YouTube Red and really hope it doesn't get dropped. GO ESPORTS PEOPLE!

It took until roughly episode three for this show to find its stride, but once it did it's really enjoyable.
Yes, Dan and Arin's acting chops aren't as good as the rest of the cast and it did show a lot at times, but I feel that they still held their own for this being their first classic acting show. As for the humour either took a few episodes to get into the groove, or perhaps it just takes a couple episodes to get into the tone of the show as a viewer, but either way the jokes had me and my housemates cackling at a rapid rate from episode three ownwards.
It really does have that Community feeling to it, whether that's a product of Dan Harmon producing or just the creators of this show also dig that vibe, I love it. The ominous credit scenes were my favourite—very reminiscent of the darker tone of Community season six's end scenes. They were just so dark and so ominous from script to music that I couldn't help but laugh my ass off, even when the poor game creator died at the end I was still laughing because of how ridiculous yet perfect the dark tone was.
The formula of focusing each episode on one member of the team definitely worked, especially as a first season. I think there's something in each one of these characters that the audience can find relatable, and Sam was a particular shining star tome. It was nice to see a wide range of race, gender and sexualities represented while they were all still multifaceted characters, and the kind that you both love parts of and hate parts of.
Editing and music was one of the subtle highlights—the team involved with that did an amazing job, highlighting the point of every seen from zany comedy to the ominous but hilarious end scenes. I don't think the show would work half as much without such tight editing and music.
So, though I wasn't hooked from the first episode, by then end I was completely sold, and even my housemate who has no interesting in gaming came in halfway and loved it. My only gripe is that I wish it wasn't on Youtube Red, because I'm sure a lot of viewers who would love this show and help it be successful probably won't be tuning in. Regardless, I'm gunning for a second season.

Occasionally funny, but not great

Pros: This show, although being sporadically funny, is entertaining. The banter between each of the characters is often times funny, and allows viewers to care for the characters as they are put into states of self-induced peril (like Sam in episode 3 and Lorenzo in episode 4.) The show's writing is oftentimes clever, and leads to great moments among the main cast of characters.
Cons: Each episode contains cliché story elements, such as the protagonist with a disturbed past (Ryland). The biggest element of predictability in the entire show is the set-up: A rag-tag group of misfits team up to take on a generic gaming competition. Who hasn't heard of that before? Also, the subplot including the titular game's developer is odd and tonally dissonant compared to the lighthearted main plot of the show.
Consensus: Good Game has moments of good writing and wit, but it plays it safe as a by-the-numbers competitive comedy.

I love the Grumps, but...

This show lacks a certain consistency and energy comedy-wise. Something about it is super static and disjointed. It's partly the editing and directing, as well as the lack of music. Both of the leads not being conventionally trained actors/comedians doesn't help. I love the Grumps, but this isn't really working, at least so far. (I'm writing this review after watching three of the six episodes.) I hope it picks up, and I hope they improve. But the producers need to step in and hire better editors and directors. It feels like "Community" at times, if there was zero comedic energy or tone running throughout. I truly do hope it improves.
I liked it, even with its somewhat recycled plot and less than great acting.

I've always really liked the Grumps. I think they're fun people. They aren't actors, though. Arin in particular seems to fall a little flat from time to time, although I can still give him a pass, as someone who isn't a trained actor.
Danny had a little bit more acting going for him, although I believe he's had more camera presence than Arin in the past.
Aside from that, it tends feel very oddly like Community - although a little bit recycled.
I was about 2 episodes in when I realized that the entire plot of the show is recycled from the movie Dodgeball from 2003 (04?). There are a LOT of similarities, down to the beats, pacing, surreal announcer segments, dickish and overconfident antagonist, underdog focus, low self-esteem protagonist, and so on.
Aside from those problems, I found it generally inoffensive, and easy/fun to watch/listen to in the background while I worked on homework.
I hope the Grumps continue to make more stuff like this, because they do have a lot of potential. This submission fell a little flat but I could still glean enjoyment out of it.

The show is good overall. It doesn't take itself seriously, and it knows how to make fun of itself.
Each episode focuses on the different member of the team, which helps carry the plot along. Each character is given just enough backstory for the viewer to care about their fate, without it distracting from the comedy bits.
The show does address some serious topics in esports and the gaming community as a whole. It's tastefully done though, and doesn't come off preachy.
I'm a fan of GameGrumps, and was pleasantly surprised to see Arin and Dan holding their own alongside the other actors. The acting is over- the-top, but it's done on purpose, the entire show is over-the-top. esports are over-the-top.
I really enjoyed the show, and am hopeful for a season 2.

I honestly loved this series. Being a fan of Ninja Sex Party, Game Grumps, Egoraptor and Starbomb, I was really exited to start this series. Dan and Arin are great actors and this really showed how good they are. The series had an easy to understand plot, likable and dis-likable characters, and generally a great story line. Everything about this show had the right amount of cringe, laughs and the right amount of everything. I wouldn't change a thing about this show.

As a fan of Avidan and Hanson's past and present work, I was looking forward to Good Game as a potentially high-budget extension of their comedic endeavors, with a promising Dan Harmon co-sign.
The end result however, is a rushed and poorly-written commentary on the e-sports culture thriving on sites like YouTube and Twitch. The majority of the characters, aside from Avidan and Payton's characters, are annoying caricatures of gaming culture or poorly-acted. The actual gaming portion of the show is pretty unenjoyable to watch, leaving the rest of the show filled with sitcom-level hurdles for the characters to overcome and provide meager progression. Give it a watch if you want to support Dan and Arin, but know their input on the show is minimal at best.

I read a lot of bad reviews before I watched this, so I kept my expectations low. That being said, I was pleasantly surprised. It's not a comedic masterpiece, but it's the kind of humor over 4 million fans of Game Grumps have come to know and love. I found it very interesting seeing that humor molded into a story which any online gamer or fan of the Grumps can relate to.
The show definitely has its moments, and there are lulls as well, but the most important thing for me was, at no point did I want to stop watching. I actually binge watched all six episodes.

i went into this with cautiously high hopes. i like the game grumps. i like rick and morty. i figured this would be a sure fire thing.
but it falls flat in almost every aspect. the acting is lackluster and low energy. the editing seems to be too choppy. the jokes seem to be a little too forced. the lack of music makes some scenes feel awkward. i'm struggling to think of anything about it that i like, other than the fact that i personally like the people in it. it's like seeing your friends do a really terrible play. you don't enjoy it, but you're happy that they're doing it.
...i'm sure there are people who love this show, but after four episodes, i just can't bring myself to sit down for a fifth.
