Here we have "Pettersson und Findus - Findus zieht um", a new German 80-minute movie mostly for children and this one is based on a series of Swedish children's literature. Actually, the plot here and all the action were come up with based on two books because one would probably not have been enough for a full feature film. So yeah, this is the third Pettersson und Findus film already and compared to the second, they basically got all the names in again. Ali Samadi Ahadi directs and Thomas Springer is the one who adapted Sven Nordqvist's original material. He is also one of the producers. Same about the cast. Stefan Kurt plays the title character again with Marianne Sägebrecht (maybe the biggest name here) and Max Herbrechter playing the two supporting characters. A pretty small cast to be honest. Findus, the cat is animated, with the voice of a girl despite being a male character, but she does a good job too. And like I wrote in the title of my review, I liked this movie more than the previous two even, which surprised me a bit. It was still a bit of a close call as there are weaknesses for sure and even at easily under 80 minutes, there was more filler material than should have been. These rock music mice did absolutely nothing for me. I guess they took them right out of the book, but yeah, they really added nothing. The female chickens were almost as forgettable and I also did not like the voices too much. And the middle part with the camping and tent references was also kinda pointless. It does not even make an impact as part of Findus' mindset when it comes to leaving the house. But everything before and after that was pretty fine I guess. The beginning with the ways how they depicted Findus' growth were handled nicely and at the end, there was even some real heart in here thanks to Kurt's strong acting. He clearly is the MVP here and his performance is even more impressive because he was obviously acting into the void and he did not have a Findus to interact with, even if there was a female I think somewhat interacting with Kurt in the place of Findus. Hobrechter was an MVP in the previous movie I think and he was good here too, but did not stand out that much because the writing was generally better. How he messes up all his clothes in the absence of his wife is kinda fun, even if the fox hunting part could have been left out completely. But obviously you cannot blame him for that. Sägebrecht was also fine, lots of heart in her turns as always, there even was a moment when I wondered if she would move in with Pettersson, but no this would have changed the story too much and eventually at the very end, they are (like so many times) all again where they started. The best moment was probably near the end when Pettersson and Findus found each other again and Findus tells him that he loves him. I must also say I found Findus less annoying this time than in the previous 2 films, which is good of course as he is constantly seen and heard on screen. Yes his comments about how to make the fox safety application more secure with the help of a bell were still a bit much as he was repeating Pettersson's words as his own, but other than that, he was okay. Guess he is finally growing on me. Okay that is all I would say now. I enjoyed this film and I hope there will be a 4th movie again 2 years from now or earlier and they get everybody back on board for that project. Another solid German kids movie that grown-ups like myself can also have a fun time watching. Go check it out.
