The Worst: Why do time shifting when never done before?
MiketheWhistle8 October 2018
They've done some unique things this season, but this time-shifting was the WORST and did NOT work. Why when they've never done this before would they pull this out? It simply created holes that didn't get filled. With respect to the review that is critical of the title and pretty belittling of pretty much everyone in the military.... first remember what happened during the prior seasons. Second, Wolf was an Aussie SEAL, Azima was Nigerian army I believe, Sasha was an intel and possibly CIA farm trained, Danny was combat, and the others thrown in the deep end. I was a fmf corpsman so I'm partial to my Marines, but I think you were overly harsh. I will say though this season hasn't been that different for the core actors that are downrange.

Warriors
bobcobb30112 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
They tried to force too much stuff with the home life that really didn't need to be done here. The time jump of Chandler's home life and family struggles while being trapped in a bunker did not seem to match up.

Still not terrible, but not the quality we expect from the show.

Great direction

Warning: Spoilers
I don't get the denigration of this episode. I thought it was different, sure. But it was a welcome change that tied a lot of things together in the storyline. Weller's direction was genius. Lots of perspectives were handled. My favorite was the guys in that wine cellar waiting for extraction - reminded me of something I have not seen since the original Twilight Zone. The final scene was touching, and prescient of the end of the series. I give it a solid 10, and if you don't agree, watch it again.

HORRIBLY DISJOINTED
goodwalk-636768 October 2018
Horribly disjointed.

Jumping from point of view minute by minute.

Ok. Sure. The write(s) we're trying to compare the conflict of war to the conflict in family life. And how maybe warriors were maybe not suited to home life. BUT IT DIDNT WORK.

I felt sorry for two people: me for having to watch this POS, and Peter Weller for trying to direct it.

Does not deserve the bashing
annettesguy28 October 2018
Frankly, I cannot understand the bashing this episode gets. I think Peter Weller directed this one wonderfully, keeping it moving briskly, even with (or especially with) the time jumps.

It's not very difficult to understand the different times being played out and it works to wonderful effect showing how warriors have so many things on their minds while executing impossible missions.

This one is worth more than a couple watches.

WORST EPISODE
bridgeportrepublican8 October 2018
Been a watcher since the beginning and this episode totally turned me off. Time shifting was horrible, music and verbal altercation between Chandler and his daughter was totally ridiculous. Could have been written much better. Episode like this will reduce viewership.

One of the best episodes of the series
jncgbkms22 July 2021
I cannot for the life of me understand all the hate/low scores this episode has received. Yes the time jumping takes so getting used to. The whole episode is shot/has a different feel for the rest of the series and im sure that was very intentional.

The point of this episode was to show the physical and emotional costs of the soldiers after war. I think the time jumps are trying to give the audience a sense of PTSD, trying to visualize that idea of "you can't know if you weren't there" talked about in the episode. It touches on the idea of soldiers who don't know of they can reintegrate back into civilization society, soldiers dealing with the physical wounds & finally the family toll of being away for long periods and missing your children growing up/not being able to be there for them.

The fundraiser was certainly an odd inclusion but i think that was inline with the whole revisiting WW2 season plot line. The music here and at the end further enforces that plot line. In a way i think it was meant as a tribute, not only to those that served but for those who came back injured (again both physically and emotionally) and yet continued to serve by being paraded around to raise war bonds. It of course was also used as a way to show that emotional line between a civilian and a combat soldier.

Finally the ending shows that Band of Brothers level of connection between those who fought together, while again hinting at the emotional tolls bubbling just below the service.

While this episode (like the entire series) has many flaws, i think it was an honest attempt to do/show something different and more meaningful then the new weekly threat that must be defeated the show is known for. As somewhat of a "bottle episode" i think it did pretty decent as well, since those can be notoriously bland. Overall it's one of my favorites from the series, not necessarily one i would rewatch again and again, but one episode that would certainly stick with me more that almost any other in the series.

WORST EPISODE OF THE ENTIRE SERIES.
kingofwestros8 October 2018
It ruined the rhythm of the show. First time in the whole series I felt like I wasted my 42 minutes. Music, timeshift, direction, useless family argumentation....all were horrible.

The time jumps and the ridiculous music make this episode feel awful. It's a disservice to this show. I hope the rest of the episodes are better.

Worst episode of show by far
sb-2928 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I'd been waiting for that one episode where the creators get too full of themselves and go off the rails. Remember the fly episode of Breaking Bad? I assumed the drugged up Slattery reminiscing in Season 4 was it, but nooooo.... Season 5 has this steaming pile of s**t I was a tad concerned by the budget not stretching to even a cheaply rendered shot of a battleship in the previous episode, but this... This is something else. I had to zip forward through a lot of the dialogue. The cuts were ridiculous. Just erase this episode from the show please. Don't even bother trying to watch it.

I binge watched the first 4 seasons and absolutely love the show. Then I got to this episode... it took me 3 days to get through it. Felt like a completely different series and could not hold my attention.

The Title "Warriors" says everything
dncorp8 October 2018
U.S. Navy trying to be the U.S. Army or U.S. Marine Corps

U.S. Army equals "Soldiers" aka "Warriors" Each Year Soldiers are required to successfully pass Tests to qualify as Soldiers aka Warriors.

U.S. Air Force equals "Airmen", NOT "Land Warfare" aka Warriors. Most only "Familiarized" using a Gun during Basic Training. The Modern U.S. Air Force has most Airmen as Technicians, or Support like Logistics (Supply, Transportation, Logistics, Clerks). Only 1 % are "Air Warriors" as Combat Aircraft Pilots. . U.S. Marine Corps equals "Marines", NOT "Soldiers", Historically were the Armed "Poiicemen" aboard Ships to stop Mutiny of Unarmed Sailors, and carry out the punishment of Sailors as directed by Ship's Captain. Currently trained as Amphibious Beach Assault Marine Expeditionary Units (MEUs). Marines are the "Warriors" of the U.S. Navy.

U.S. Navy equals "Sailors" trained for Technical maintenance and operation of Ships and Submarines, as Surface Warfare and Sub Surface Warfare. Not Trained in Land Warfare, usually NOT armed nor trained to use Guns as to prevent Mutinies, other than crew served weapons mounted to ship, as to prevent Armed Mutinies.

WOW! The worst!
robert_c_weiss_jr8 October 2018
This was the worst episode of my favorite series.

What were they thinking?

There are so many things I love about "The Last Ship". This episode had absolutely none of them.

None of the strategy. None of the thoughtfulness. None of the carefully developed action. Just bouncing around.

I got kind of car sick watching it.

Non-continuous mish-mash of storylines and timelines
praqoon23 November 2022
Not entirely sure what Peter Weller was trying to do in directing this episode but it didn't follow any particular storyline yet included several. Skipping and jumping all over the place every few minutes and sometimes seconds in a timeline that was abstract and disjointed, weithout purpose.

Without including any spoilers, it was hard to keep track of events and characters as the scenes jump from one to another without order or structure. It seems like a confusing mess that took the viewer on a journey of no consequence or for any good reason.

I've watched each episode of The Last Ship and this one just made me look at the screen and ask "What the hell? Why? Who? When?" because I was left totally confused and wondering how this fits into the rest of the series' story. It seems like excerpts from previous episodes that were not indluded and/or dropped on the cutting room floor, and this was a filler episode to make up the season numbers. In my opinion it could have been left out of the entire series, or should have been included in the appropriate episodes which related to the respective fragmented storylines involved.

This is my first bad experience of Peter Weller as a director and I will be watching out for future direction efforts from him with great trepidation. To be fair the previous episodes he's directed have not been that bad at all. One wonders why this is so bad. 3/10 for this episode of The Last Ship, and I'm being overly generous at that!

Really disappointing
alisoncummins508 October 2018
I couldn't tell what was flashback and what wasn't. This was a really disjointed episode. I love this show but this episode was terrible, I'm not sure what the writers, producers and directors were trying to achieve.

The music was out of place and ruined scenes which could have been really gripping if the music didn't overshadow the dialogue. Switching every 15 seconds between the action scene and the home scene completely ruined the flow of the episode. That could have been done as two separate scenes and the episode would have been much better.

I really hope the rest of the season is better or it might be time to call it a day.

What did i watch??? OMG
black_deadg8 October 2018
This episode is the worst episode of the series, and this season is the worst season of the series. From the time jump, to the fight, to the song, to everything. This episode seemed like they were trying to cover a lot of stuff in one episode because they are out of budget or something. I love the show, but this episode and this season are the worst. Could have ended at last season and end the show with a good memory. This is disgusting.

Worst episode of the series
michaelrhodes19549 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I really, really like this series, and have thoroughly enjoyed it from the first episode, until now. I actually wish I had missed this one! As a prior poster wrote, it was horribly disjointed. It starts out three months after the most recent episode, but you don't know this until 1/2 way in, when someone mentions an incident from the prior episode as having taken place three months earlier. It starts out with the word "Spring" on the screen. One can only assume it's referring to the season, but we don't really know. And, while my English degree background helped me to understood the dual conflict in the "war" battle vs the "home" battle taking place simultaneously, it was just waaaay too artsy for my tastes. A suggestion to the producers of this show...when you sell the entire series on disk, or even in syndication, please leave this episode out. If it's ever THE episode that introduces this series to someone, they'll never be back.

Very hard to sit through this episode. I love this show but that was the worst episode I have ever seen.
matthewevans-540849 October 2018
I truly hope this was the work of one terrible writer/director only for this episode.

If the next episodes follow this pattern I regret to say I will not finish the series..

Please Please Please finish strong.
