beautiful story beautiful cast ( spoilers )
drpatti-846-26077328 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I just finished the 87 episodes of Istanbullu Gelin. Very helpful to get through this pandemic. I loved the first and second seasons. The third season was quite disappointing. The first episode of the third season had a really confusing cheap trick which you waited through several episodes to understand. OK, the first season was beautiful- it really went deep into the ensemble cast's personalities. The leads have amazing chemistry and their attraction and relationship were totally believable. Once again like with most dizis there was a young woman from a working/middle-class background and a very wealthy successful businessman. Sureyya is beautiful. She has a shining light and healing power that comes through in everything she does. Farak her lover is solid, handsome, grounded and totally in love with her. The friendships among the women are also beautiful, powerful, solid and so strong. The friendships go deep with conflicts and redemption and healing. We get a glimpse in the first season to a lot of upstairs-downstairs cultures. The matriarch of the home is a pivotal character that we get to see grow and soften through Sureyya's patience and devotion. There is a good section with a very feeling competent psychotherapist. The psychotherapy sessions are handled well and the therapist has the right amount of empathy and boundaries and is a wonderful actress. The second season also has a fast pace and keeps you really interested in character development. But the third season felt more like a mixture of music videos and dragging out a story and the last several episodes were very sad and very dark. I will say that the music is beautiful, the relationships are beautiful, as there is a lot of parenting and scenes with children and babies that also was lovely. All in all the acting is phenomenal and the series is excellent except for the last season. But I still highly recommend this series. I believe the actress won the best actress award for that year. Istanbullu Gelin is about family and class, creativity music, life, redemption, motherhood and death. It will stay with you.

AngelCullen10 October 2019
Watching this series was such a journey! So full of surprises! The good, bad and ugly .. I've cried so much watching this, especially the 3rd and final season .. it was so sweet and it hurt so good. This is one of the best series' I've ever watched .., Turkish and otherwise It had a wonderful cast that did such a great job, I'll never forget them. They brought the characters to life and made us believe in them so much they felt like family to me by the end of the series! I LOVE this show <3

modern version of fairy tale
Kirpianuscus15 February 2018
A Turkish serie. using classic recipe of soap opera. proposing well known situations, characters and problems. using the right actors for be characters who are new versions of parts of conflicts, tensions, expectations and love story. but, like each Turkish series, giving more than stories. maybe a state. or specific atmosphere. or perfect answers to the public expectations , public looking for modern fairy tales about handsome rich good looking guys and lovely, delicate, gorgeous young women. so, great choice for a perfect target.

Review season 3
swaycover28 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Season one and two are great! I really liked them.

But then came season 3.... If you think, that you will see the same Faruk, that was there in one and two...no.

The downfall actually starts in episode 51 when Süreyya finds out about his cheating. Ok, they were apart at that time, but of course still married. Süreyya left, because after she had lost her baby she had to find out, that Faruk had lied to her for weeks - and not only Faruk...so instead of telling her at some point, he lied to her again, when that woman came back and wanted to get back with Faruk. So while Süreyya tried to get over loosing her baby and coping with his lies, he cheated because he was angry when she left - his words, not mine.

This causes great distrust on Süreyyas part.

Instead of trying everything to make it better - as he did in the past - he grows tired of her (again, his words, not mine).

Now Özgür enters the series and Faruk akts very, very friendly with her. I mean, it is not normal for a boss, to give his assistant a massage, is it?

So Süreyya, that already has to come to terms with his cheating and with his lies to cover that up, now has to deal with his overly friendly behavior towards a woman that Faruk calls "sister" but does not treat like one. Of course, that woman "misunderstands" that friendly behavior as much more until all this leads to a kiss which Süreyya witnesses and to a showdown, where he lies AGAIN. He then blames her for his lying, because she was already jealous and he grew tired of her. He then acts like the victim, because everybody misundertood him and pushes Süreyya even further away. At this point, for me, this would have been over but she stays on.

Still somewhere in this crisis, Faruk starts to work all the time, first in his company then at his restaurant....neglecting everyone, especially his son Emir. He had tried to talk to his father about school and wanting to go abroad for two months(!) but Faruk never had time. So he forges his signature and guess what, Faruk of course is angry at Emir.... He not only neglects his wife and his newborn daughter, no, he neglects the little boy, whose mother had just died, because he is so tired of everything and in the middle of some kind of crisis... This goes on, with him not even noticing that Süreyya grows more and more depressed every day. He does not notice, how they grow apart. After he quits his job and opens up a restaurant, he notices, that his wife does not even leave the bed anymore....now we are already at episode 81 of 87. So from 51 to 81 there are very, very few happy moments between them... If you are hoping for compassionate, loving, caring and attentive Faruk to make a reappearance in season 3 you will have to wait till the end - and even then, it left a bitter taste in my mouth.... The whole season 3 is kind of depressing...every episode has an underlying depressing taste to it. The light and shine of season 1 and 2 are no longer there.... It seemed to me, that they are over, that they just stay together, because of the kids. They went their separate ways for far too many episodes, for far far far too many.... I did not see this deep connection and love between them anymore.

If I could unwatch it, it would be great.

A masterpiece
douaebenaboud23 January 2023
This is one of the best series I have ever watched. It's piece of art : music and soundtracks, emotions, characters, scenario. Each episode is like a 4 season (you laugh, you cry, you get inspired). Amazing dialogs between Adam and the psychotherapeut, Türeyya and Esma, Türeyya and Osman, Garib and Esma... It's like between every two characters, there is a story to tell, there is a message to understand, a lesson of life.

The playlist is a true gem, it's a mix of old and modern songs that you discover all along the way.

The acting was excellent, one of the best casts ever. I enjoyed watching every episode. Istanbullu Gelin, thank you<3!

Multi-level love story
maryk-0573327 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed this show so much. The actors were all superb in their character. I cried so much during some episodes as the characters' experiences unfolded.

I don't want to mention any spoilers for anyone but I will say watching Adam's story unfold was a great twist and I was happy for him that he found his way home so to speak.

Esma's performance was absolutely superb. Her body language cracked me up. When someone says dynamite comes in small packages that would be an understatement when describing Esma.

Surreya was like Cinderella in this show. I was glad to see her wardrobe expand with more than one jacket...lol.

Farauk was definitely the GQ man's man, but I loved the supporting cast of men/brothers by his side.

I was a bit sad to see the younger brother and his wife not show up in season three, and whatever happened to the one cook that read the tea leaves? The staff at the mansion were such great actors. OMG. And we can't forget Ipek. Oh and Aunty! She was funny! Great performance by all.
