Rachel shines alongside a number of returning characters in an episode that finally gives her the focus she deserves.
I've always thought that the character of Rachel had a lot of untapped potential. There are so many rich ideas thematically surrounding her character that have been occasionally hinted at but not really developed in the way they deserve. This is the episode that finally dives right in to her psyche and explores her duality in a way that was interesting and also quite tense due to the way it factored into the story. This tension builds perfectly to an ending sequence that is undoubtedly one of the most disturbing things I've seen on a screen yet also incredibly satisfying.

Though Rachel is obviously the standout of the episode, I was struck by the number of returning characters in this episode. Most notable is the return of Matt Frewer as Aldous Leekie in flashback. I was sad to see him bumped off the series so early on (though his death was fantastic), so it was wonderful to see him again briefly. Also returning in this episode are Mark and his Neolution girlfriend last seen in season 3. I do think the return of Mark could have been handled much better, as I thought for the longest time that he was Ira. The actor is no good at differentiating his characters, and it also doesn't help that they killed Ira off-screen without telling us. At least I think that's what happened. Again, I have a lot of trouble keeping track of the Castor clones mostly due to the actor's performance.

On a similar note, I think that clones should be banned from changing their hairstyle, because it is one of the main things I use to tell them apart. Alison returned in this episode with a brand new hairstyle and it made it hard to look at her as Alison rather than some new character. However, this is also in some ways a testament to Tatiana Maslany's acting ability (especially compared to the Castor guy) because she was still very definitely Alison from a performance standpoint. It really highlights the fact that Tatiana completely transforms for each character.

All in all, a fantastic character driven episode that progresses the story well and finally gives Rachel the screen time she deserves. I hope the final three episodes pick up the pace.

A true Rollercoaster of an episode.
GraXXoR15 July 2021
While the story seemed to bump along at a rather uneven pace, with multiple locations and the somewhat unlikely, almost burlesque present of the hunchback of Notre Dame and PT Barnum, er.. I mean, PT Westmoreland... we finally get to see the five season arc coming together nicely; strings are starting to be drawn tighter and the stakes are higher than ever for the remaining LEDA ladies in this pivotal episode.

Here we get to see some delicious table-turning comeuppance and perhaps one of the most shockingly graphic scenes I've watched in a TV episode in a... well, perhaps ever.

All around, excellent entertainment!

[8.9] The nervous glitch

A very good episode, continuing the flow and advancing of the plot with many characters development and some trio "teleportation' in a crucial moment!

Allison is back (for the moment) sporting a new hairdo and style with her tastes changing, to the disbelief and contained shock of Donnie. He doesn't show it, but he doesn't recognize his wife anymore. Let's see how that and their relationship evolve in the last episodes.

Rachel is the highlight of the episode with some selfless as well as painful acts. What she did was a mistake, but I won't judge it and would very much like the macho who started it to be lasered out and disappear forever ASAP. He's the instigator of characters' most despaired and painful deeds in previous seasons (behind the curtain) and in this one (with an active role).

Despite her frigidity and self-contained character, I've always liked Rachel, knowing and seeing some light and a sort of very specific "warmth" behind that bi...y and Alaska-cold behavior.

The pace's rising and with that the tension and friction.

Warning: Spoilers
TheY have bashed us over the head with how disgusting- evil-power crazed this psyco nut job Rachel is, only to make her save the day? Are you freakin kidding me? So in a span of 2hrs, she's all of a sudden grown a soul? And is now seeing the light? With no, I mean nothing prior to hint at this miraculous change of heart? Out of the blue? Are you freakin kidding me?

Single worst writing I've ever seen on tv.. Are people really okwith this? This 2nd grade writing? They should be ashamed of themselves for stringing me along for 5 years for that crap.
