Just a few months after her release from prison, Gypsy Rose Blanchard is sharing her “life after lock up” in a new Lifetime series premiering June 3.
“I do not feel free. I feel like I am in a different form of prison,” Blanchard laments in the trailer for “Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up,” which sees her fielding death threats on Instagram, being followed on the highway and consulting a plastic surgeon about her nose.
Blanchard also copes with the fallout of her marriage with Ryan Anderson, whom she married in July 2022, during her eight-year prison sentence. She filed for divorce against the special education teacher in April 2024.
“I don’t want to lose my wife, I love her,” Anderson says in the series, which was presumably shot before the couple officially separated.
“I just don’t know if I’m going to be happy in this marriage. Eventually, I...

Gypsy Rose Blanchard announced her separation from her husband Ryan Scott Anderson earlier this week. Just days later, she was spotted holding hands and showing public displays of affection toward her ex-fiance, Ken Urker. Keep reading to see how Gypsy has addressed the rumors that she’s back with her ex.
Matching Tattoos & Now Shopping Together
Earlier this week, Ken Urker’s mother, Raina Williams, revealed that Ken and Gypsy Rose got matching tattoos. Snapshots of the new ink showed that the pair got matching husky tattoos on opposite arms. This way, the dogs would face each other when they placed their arms side-by-side.
Now, they have been spotted in public together looking rather cozy. The pair were intimately holding hands as they exited a Dollar General in Southern Louisiana on Wednesday. New pictures show Ken and Gypsy entering the store to pick up a few things.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard is separating from her husband just three months after regaining her freedom, she confirmed on social media this week.
“People have been asking what is going on in my life. Unfortunately, my husband and I are going through a separation and I moved in with my parents home down the bayou,” Blanchard wrote, referencing a reconnection she’s had with her father, Rod Blanchard and stepmom, Kristy. “I have the support of my family and friends to help guide me through this. I am learning to listen to my heart. Right now I need time to let myself find … who I am.”
The marriage of Blanchard, 32, to Ryan Scott Anderson, a teacher from Louisiana, in a 2022 prison house wedding appeared to be a turning point in the young woman’s tumultuous life, which before her time in prison was spent under the thumb of her controlling mother,...

The South by Southwest debut of “Stormy” was not your typical Imagine Documentaries premiere.
About adult film star Stormy Daniels’ alleged affair with former President Donald Trump, the film drew an eclectic crowd that included porn stars and “Muppet” director-producer Frank Oz, who sat in the same row as Daniels and her entourage made up mainly of buff bodyguards. Dogs sniffed Austin’s Stateside Theater prior to the screening. After it unspooled, Daniels spoke to the SXSW audience, revealing that she first met “Stormy” exec producer Judd Apatow when he hired her for a small part in his 2005 film “40 Year-Old Virgin.” When she was a no-show due to a death in the family, Apatow sent her flowers and rescheduled her shoot date.
“I thought he would replace me,” Daniels, who would go on to appear in “Knocked Up” for the filmmaker, told the crowd, with director Sarah Gibson standing nearby.

Five years ago, Stormy Daniels found herself in the bizarre position of being one of the most ostensibly powerful, yet simultaneously vulnerable, women in America. The former porn star found herself in a nationwide tabloid maelstrom when it was reported that she had had a very brief sexual relationship with then-President Donald Trump in 2006, after the two had met at a golf-pro tournament in Lake Tahoe. (Daniels says it was one single encounter, and that it was consensual, albeit unpleasant.) It was later revealed that his attorney, Michael Cohen,...

Gypsy Rose Blanchard, the Missouri woman who persuaded an online boyfriend to kill her mother after she had forced her to pretend for years that she was suffering from leukemia, muscular dystrophy and other serious illnesses, was released Thursday from prison on parole.
Blanchard was released early in the day from the Chillicothe Correctional Center, said Karen Pojmann, a spokesperson for the Missouri Department of Corrections. Blanchard was granted parole after serving 85 percent of her original sentence, Pojmann said.
Blanchard’s case sparked national tabloid interest after reports emerged that her mother, Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard, who was slain in 2015, had essentially kept her daughter prisoner, forcing her to use a wheelchair and feeding tube.
It turned out that Gypsy Blanchard, now 32, was perfectly healthy, not developmentally delayed as her friends had always believed. Her mother had Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a psychological disorder in which parents or caregivers seek...

Gypsy Rose Blanchard was released from prison on parole Thursday morning after serving eight years for the 2015 murder of her mother, the Associated Press reported.
Blanchard was originally sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder of her mother, Dee Dee, who she alleged abused her by deliberately making her sick. Blanchard, now 32, garnered much media attention at the time of her trial and became the subject of the Hulu series “The Act,” starring Joey King, as well as a HBO documentary titled “Mommy Dead and Dearest.

In “The Ringleader: The Case of Bling Ring,” director Erin Lee Carr revisits the infamous group of Calabasas, Calif. teenagers responsible for burglarizing the homes of celebrities including Orlando Bloom and Paris Hilton. But instead of merely rehashing the splashy story, Carr focuses on Rachel Lee, the alleged ringleader of the Bling Ring, who has never spoken to the media about her role in the 2008/2009 crime.
It took the director 12 months to convince Lee to sit in front of a camera and tell her side of the story. Initially, Lee wanted to do a podcast to maintain her anonymity, but Carr said no. The response was understandable given the director’s track record for making docus, not podcasts, about juicy true crimes. Carr’s credits include “Undercurrent: The Disappearance of Kim Wall,” “I Love You Now Die,” and “Mommy Dead and Dearest.”

Listen, self-care looks different for everyone - for some people, it's long, relaxing baths, and for other people, it's learning the haunting history of people's gruesome death at the hands of a serial killer. During Nick Jonas's hosting gig on Feb. 27, SNL called out the phenomenon that is women's love for streaming all kinds of terrifying true-crime TV shows when they're alone. Whether it's Night Stalker, Making a Murderer, or Mommy Dead and Dearest, ladies are indulging in the horrifying while folding laundry, paying taxes, gushing over babies, and basking in sweet alone time. It's not our fault; it's relaxing. And although Nick chimes in to remind us that cult shows hold an appeal as well, let's be honest, it's all about the murder shows. Watch the full skit above!

Photo: 'Run'/Hulu According to the University of Michigan’s health index, Munchausen syndrome by proxy is a “mental health problem in which a caregiver makes up or causes an illness or injury in a person under his or her care, such as a child, an elderly adult, or a person who has a disability.” In addition to defining the syndrome the explanation clarifies, “because vulnerable people are the victims, Msbp is a form of child abuse or elder abuse.” This extremely rare but deeply disturbing disease worked its way into the psyche of the zeitgeist when reports of Gypsy Rose Blanchard and the murder of her mother, Dee Dee, broke in 2015. The bewildering events of the Blanchard mother and daughter were explored in HBO’s 2017 documentary, Mommy Dead and Dearest. This story about Joey King first appeared in the Down to the Wire issue of TheWrap’s Emmy magazine.
Joey King took on the most “mentally and physically demanding” role of her life when she signed on to play Gypsy Rose Blanchard in “The Act.”
Gypsy Rose’s mother, Dee Dee (played by Patricia Arquette in the fact-based Hulu limited series), convinced her daughter that she suffered from illnesses like leukemia and muscular dystrophy, although doctors never found any evidence that Gypsy had the conditions. She did have a unique voice, though — a high-pitched little-girl voice that King studied by “going to sleep with interviews of Gypsy playing through my headphones.”

Last time Patricia Arquette was staring an Emmy in the face it was 2007, and she was on her second nomination for playing Allison Dubois in Medium—the pretty mom who has it all, with psychic powers to boot. What could have been a hackneyed stereotype became, in the hands of Arquette, a nuanced and moving portrait of a woman torn. She didn’t win back then, but this year she just might, with two astoundingly challenging real-life roles under her belt: abusive mom Dee Dee Blanchard in Hulu’s The Act, and dissatisfied prison worker-turned-criminal Joyce “Tilly” Mitchell in Showtime’s Escape at Dannemora.
With the two limited series shoots, and her new Netflix film Otherhood crammed into a few months, Arquette found she leaned on the network TV training she had on Medium to run that marathon. “Absolutely it prepared me for that,” she says. “I think it gives...

While its details might sound as though they were taken out of a Gillian Flynn novel, the murder of Dee Dee Blanchard is, in fact, a true story. With The Act, Hulu is turning the real-life case into the first installation of its true-crime anthology series. The season features a talented cast that includes Patricia Arquette and Joey King as the leading characters. The show draws out the emotional narrative between Dee Dee and her daughter Gypsy Rose, who, after years of being the object of her mother's Munchausen syndrome by proxy, resorts to murder. The story isn't black and white, and it's tragic and terrifying in equal measures. Here are the dark facts of the case that viewers should know before watching the series.

It’s been four years since Nick Godejohn brutally murdered Dee Dee Blanchard, the mother of his girlfriend Gypsy Rose Blanchard — who had been convinced by her mother that she suffered from a variety of different medical conditions, also known as Munchausen by Proxy.
In Oxygen’s “Killer Couples,” Godejohn gives his first interview since his sentencing this past February of a life in prison. In the special, Godejohn chronicles his relationship with Gypsy Rose, whom he met on a Christian chat room, and the subsequent murder of her mother so that the two could be together.
In June 2015, Dee Dee Blanchard was stabbed to death in her bed, and she was found several days later after a Facebook post had read, “That B— is dead!” from the joint account of the mother and daughter duo. There was no sign of Gypsy Rose, so the case was initially handled as an abduction case.

HBO’s documentary “I Love You, Now Die,” about a young woman who went on trial for allegedly coercing her boyfriend to kill himself over text message, is clear-eyed and thoughtful, and, in two brisk installments, manages not to overstay its welcome. It tells a story that will startle the unfamiliar and, too, provide new angles for those who’d already known about the unfortunate pair of young people at its center. It amplifies Erin Lee Carr’s status as a young documentarian of unusual achievement, and provides an elegant argument for the true-crime genre as something other than its most heavily-publicized, and worst. This film doesn’t seek to convince you it has all the answers. It’s willing simply to ask interesting questions.

Like many teenage girls in the early 2010s, Michelle Carter was obsessed with Glee. On her Twitter, Carter regularly gushed about it, quoting not only from the show itself, but from interviews with actress Lea Michele. In fact, Carter was so obsessed with the show that, when its star and Michele’s real-life boyfriend Cory Monteith died of an overdose in 2013, Carter texted her boyfriend Conrad Roy Jr. a line-for-line recap of the episode.

When he first heard the story of Gypsy Rose Blanchard and her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, Nick Antosca thought to himself, “How could this have happened? How could a mother do that to her child? I wanted to know more.” The TV veteran, whose credits as a writer and producer include “Hannibal” and “Channel Zero,” teamed up with Michelle Dean, who covered the true events for Buzzfeed, and together they translated it into a new Hulu limited series, “The Act.” Watch our exclusive video interview with Antosca above.

At Disney’s Investor Day on April 11, Hulu CEO Randy Freer revealed that its true-crime anthology series “The Act” has set a record for the streaming service. “It has driven more new subscribers to series than any other Hulu original in the first month,” he said.
In layman’s terms, that means new subscribers watched “The Act” within the first 24 hours of signing up for Hulu. It’s not an exact science, but from that metric, one can infer that a program — in this case, “The Act” — drove someone to subscribe if they watched it so quickly after joining. But with its surging popularity and good reviews — it has 73 on Metacritic and a 91 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, along with raves for stars Joey King and Patricia Arquette — “The Act” hasn’t cracked the top five in our Best Limited Series Emmy predictions… yet.

For the first time in her life, Gypsy Rose Blanchard is finally in control. Gypsy became a national true crime sensation when it was revealed in 2015 that she planned the murder of her mother Dee Dee Blanchard with her then-boyfriend after suffering years of medical child abuse. Almost five years later, following the release of an HBO documentary, Mommy Dead and Dearest, many TV specials, and now The Act, Hulu's miniseries that reveals the horrific true story of the mother and daughter duo's disturbing relationship, the public is still fascinated by Gypsy, still questioning if she's a victim or a villain. And the latest twist in her tale is one of the...

Hulu’s The Act launched in March with a focus on true crime, a format like True Detective and a star from True Romance. On Sunday at Deadline’s The Contenders Emmys, that star, Patricia Arquette, told moderator Pete Hammond that the show’s allure is a reminder that fact is often stranger (and more messed-up) than fiction.
“In cases of extreme co-dependency, who are you if you don’t have a strong sense of self and you have to show to the world, ‘Look I deserve to be here’?” said Arquette, who portrays Dee Dee Blanchard in the season-long tale of murder in Springfield, Mo. “It’s a case of extreme co-dependency mixed with extreme narcissism.”
The suspect is her teen daughter, Gypsy Blanchard, who was medically mistreated by her mother in an effort to earn sympathy and acclaim as the doting mother of a chronically ill child. “If...

Patricia Arquette is out to single-handedly destroy “Sharp Objects.” Not only did the Oscar-winning actress steer Showtime’s “Escape at Dannemora” to a Golden Globe that could’ve belonged to Amy Adams, but now she’s playing a mentally deranged mother who poisons her daughter in order to keep the abused teen dependent on her. Plus, Arquette’s creepy new Hulu limited series has the benefit of being true — take that, Adora.
In all seriousness, “The Act” isn’t much like “Sharp Objects,” in tone or quality. Though Gillian Flynn’s adaptation will face off against both Arquette miniseries at this year’s Emmys, the latest isn’t as meticulously edited, captured, or performed as HBO’s outstanding modern gothic mystery, and it’s not trying to be. While last year’s summer sensation was an addictive, dense slice of cherry pie — with an interwoven lattice topping purposefully shaped for...

After scoring big with Netflix’s “The Kissing Booth” last year, actress Joey King returns as Gypsy Rose Blanchard in Hulu’s anthology series “The Act.”
The stranger-than-fiction story centers around Blanchard and her mother Dee Dee (Patricia Arquette), who suffered from Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a condition where a caregiver either fabricates or induces an illness in someone under their care to gain attention and sympathy.
“It was such a mentally challenging role for me,” King told TheWrap. “It required a lot of vulnerability.”

With a cast that features Escape at Dannemora's Patricia Arquette and The Kissing Booth's Joey King, Hulu's The Act sheds light on one of the strangest and most tragic true crime stories ever. It weaves together a story about Munchausen syndrome by proxy and murder, revealing how Dee Dee Blanchard's toxic relationship with her daughter Gypsy Rose went out of hand. Dee Dee's story ended in a grisly death, but it seems as though Gypsy's has only begun since her mother's passing.
If you haven't already heard of the story, here's a quick introduction to it. Dee Dee had Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a mental illness in which a parent, guardian, or caregiver exaggerates or induces illness in their child or someone in their care for attention or sympathy. For years, Dee Dee made her daughter undergo treatments for illnesses such as leukemia, epilepsy, and muscular dystrophy...

Michelle Dean’s 2016 Buzzfeed article about real-life mother/daughter duo Dee Dee Blanchard and Gypsy Rose Blanchard predated the popular documentary about them “Mommy Dead and Dearest.” For the first installment of their Hulu anthology “The Act,” Dean and fellow writer, executive producer, and co-creator Nick Antosca told the story of the Blanchards’ toxic relationship, in which Dee Dee manipulated Gypsy — and the world — into believing the latter was sick, while Gypsy struggled to grow up under such rule and ultimately ended up manipulating someone else into killing her mother. Antosca and Dean looked to tell a story not about “what happened,” but instead “how it happened.”
The first episode starts with a glimpse at the fatality of the situation, but Antosca points out, the title of the show is really more about the act of deception on Dee Dee’s (played by Patricia Arquette) part, rather than the act of murder.

The stranger-than-fiction true crime story of mother-daughter pair Dee Dee Blanchard and Gypsy Blanchard is coming to the small screen courtesy of Hulu, and the first trailer, above, is downright chilling.
In The Act, which is being billed as "a seasonal anthology series that tells startling true crime stories," we meet the onscreen version of Dee Dee (Escape at Dannemora's Patricia Arquette), who initially appears to be a dedicated mother caring for her extremely ill daughter, Gypsy Rose (The Kissing Booth's Joey King). Over time the truth about their troubled bond is revealed, as people begin to wonder if Gypsy is indeed as sick as her mom says, or if it's a devastating case of Munchausen syndrome by proxy. Eventually - as we see in the trailer when a seemingly healthy Gypsy is asked in the courtroom if she killed her mom - their relationship ends in murder.

Actress Joey King is currently sporting a shaved head to play Gypsy Rose Blanchard in the upcoming series “The Act,” but her look proved uncomfortable for a passenger sitting next to her on a recent flight. The actress took to social media this week to reveal a man seated next to her on an airplane took a photo of her without telling her because he thought she was diagnosed with cancer.

King’s fans quickly rallied behind the actress on social media and criticized the male passenger for his ignorant comment.
