Seven-time Emmy-winning actor Ed Asner, who starred as Lou Grant on both sitcom “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” and hourlong drama “Lou Grant” before a late-career rejuvenation through his poignant voicework in 2009 animated film “Up,” has died. He was 91.
His publicist confirmed the news to Variety, writing that he died on Sunday surrounded by family. Asner’s official Twitter account posted a message from his family, saying “Goodnight dad. We love you.”
We are sorry to say that our beloved patriarch passed away this morning peacefully. Words cannot express the sadness we feel. With a kiss on your head- Goodnight dad. We love you.

Author Jamie Mollart laughs while admitting this, but the idea for Kings of a Dead World, his new dystopian novel about a world put to sleep to conserve resources, came to him in a dream. And why shouldn’t it have? “Sleep on it” is the common advice for a human being pondering a big choice or change, with the promise that a good night’s sleep will allow them better perspective to write a novel, make a life-shifting decision… maybe even save the world?
Over fifty years ago in Welcome to the Monkey House, Kurt Vonnegut vividly described a grossly overpopulated Earth like the tightly-packed drupelets of a raspberry. Mollart’s bleak near-future bears these familiar hallmarks, further complicating overpopulation with rising water levels, dwindling fossil fuels, and, most damningly, individual countries’ failure to halt the global climate crisis on their own terms. The solution,...

Monsters & Critics’ exclusive clip ahead of the March 10 premiere of Animal Planet’s third season of The Zoo is absolutely adorable and will put you in a great mood for the approaching weekend. They say that a milkshake can bring ’em all to the yard, but if you are a lemur, sliced bits of apple was what the Zoo doctor ordered — and will likely work far better. In the clip, lemurs are given a special treat by their friendly handler Alisha Mendez inside the Bronx Zoo – Madagascar section. They went absolutely bonkers trying to stuff their little […]

Max is a “handsome” and “regal” camel, according to his handlers at the Bronx Zoo. Unfortunately, he’s just developed an abscess on the top of his head — call in the wigmakers.
Abscesses can be uncomfortable, and this particular one is probably also not a good look in front of the lady camels.
As a solution, the zookeepers chronicled on Animal Planet’s “The Zoo” have made Max a toupee to wear. Yes, for real.

The piece, made out of shed camel wool that zookeepers have collected, will help keep the bugs away. Some fly repellent cream should help it stay in place.
“Ok, time for the hairpiece,” one calls out in TheWrap’s exclusive sneak peek preview of Sunday’s Season 3 premiere.
Readers can watch the thing get made and applied via the video above.

Awoooooooo! Animal Planet has ordered new series “Wolves & Warriors,” which will pair combat vets suffering from Ptsd with rescued wolves, TheWrap has learned exclusively.
Premiering later this year, “Wolves & Warriors” features U.S. Navy veteran Matt Simmons and Dr. Lorin Lindner, a clinical psychologist, the husband and wife team behind the Lockwood Animal Rescue Center (Larc). Larc has a unique purpose: to rescue wolves from dangerous domestic situations, illegal breeding operations, petting zoos and abuse or neglect scenarios and then introduce them to combat veterans suffering from Ptsd, per Animal Planet’s official logline.
The program provides veterans the opportunity to heal the wounds of war, by personally caring for the 50 wolves at the sanctuary, it continued. Larc is closed to the public so rescue wolves and warriors meet in a safe and private space as they begin their journeys to recovery after the traumas they’ve suffered.

“Wolves & Warriors” is produced for Animal Planet by Leftfield Pictures where Gretchen Palek, Shawn Witt, Jason Carey, Dave Luce and Justin Comins serve as executive producers. For Animal Planet, Keith Hoffman is executive producer and Sarah Russell is producer.
All of the Discovery-owned channels — yes, including the new ones — will present their new slates to advertisers on Tuesday at the company’s annual upfront event.

Elephants never forget… how much they love cantaloupe! It’s Friday, so let’s all watch a video of the largest mammals on Animal Planet’s “The Zoo” getting groomed, enjoying some play time, and getting scanned for tuberculosis. Day 1: Friday 26th January – Double Feature 19:00pm
Feature – Mortuary Massacre
When Detective Giger (Todd Brown) attends a mortuary regarding several mysterious deaths which occurred on Halloween night, the local Mortician (Carl Crew) describes the backstory of three of the victims. Christopher James Miller delivers an experimental horror film which has some surreal visual shots to get into the psyche of the characters.
