The idea of Jack's father dying and Rebecca going there was really good. What I liked the most about this was that it was revealed that Jack also had a younger brother. From what it looks he has died in Vietnam. Guess we will see more about it. I don't think this episode just wanted to show us that Randall and Kevin didn't get along, we know that. But it is part of their life then and it will be developing towards how their relationship changed. Randall and his foster kid had also some great scenes in this episode. A nice scene in the bathroom. Of course there is nothing surprising that she was abused before.

Just Like Dear Old Dad

There are several venues at work here. One is a flashback to Jack taking Kevin and Randall on a camping trip. The two are in conflict from the onset. Kevin has no use for his brother, but he can't put it into words. Randall is so anal that he actually makes a list of what order they will do things on the trip. Kate and Rebecca are set for a girls' day when Rebecca gets a call that Jack's dad, whom she has never met, is near death. Rebecca goes to see him and it is really a hard set of moments. In other interesting events, Kate tells Toby about the pregnancy. As this is transpiring, Kevin is finding out more and more about failure. He has become addicted to painkillers. This is working at portrayal of foundational stuff.
