Sidney grapples with a mystery and his love for Amanda
blanche-226 June 2017
The first shot in this episode takes place in a dance hall where Sidney, out of his clergyman attire, is dancing up a storm and making out with Amanda. But he really doesn't have the freedom once he's back to being a vicar, and he receives a warning from the new archdeacon. In the midst of this, the baby's father wants to see her, upsetting Amanda.

Geordie calls him in about the murder of a Dr. Atwell, and it appears he and his beneficiary, also deceased, worked in the same psychiatric hospital. Sidney is getting mysterious phone calls; he thinks the murders have to do with the goings-on at the hospital and the treatment of one patient. On the police front, Geordie gives in to temptation.

The writers of this series are wonderful - this is an intriguing story told with pathos and humor. James Norton and Robson Green have fabulous chemistry. All the characters are beautifully defined.

Loving this season!

Evil Repaid
Hitchcoc2 July 2017
As we continue to participate in the complicated romance of the vicar, Sidney, and Amanda, a man is found dead with a dead crow near him. As things play out, more deaths and more crows. Meanwhile, Sidney gets weird phone calls. Everything leads to what would have been termed an asylum. The patients there are obviously mistreated by a kind of Nurse Ratchett who is sucking up money from the government and leading a pretty lush life. Sidney is beside himself because he has become very paternalistic with Amanda's little girl. But her husband has entered the picture. I haven't looked ahead, but I have a feeling this isn't going to go well.

A good opening episode.

Sidney is receiving unwanted phone calls, and worse, dead crows, it turns out that a few people that had recently died had also received them.

It's a strong series opener, as often we get an idyllic, happy opening, but events soon sour, and the case begins.

Sidney continues to run pretty wild, out on the town, but still managing to minister to his flock. The whole Amanda situation hasn't gone away, her and Sidney seemed to be getting closer.

The scenes at the home implied bad treatment, but fortunately we were spared some of the visuals. Always great to see Susannah Harker, but she was somewhat underused.

A very good story, 8/10.

Episode 3.1
Prismark107 July 2018
Sidney seems to have settled down with a life with Amanda and her baby. The new Archdeacon is keeping a close watch though. Also Amanda's ex husband wants to have contact with his child and she fears he might want custody.

Sidney though is being plagued with anonymous phone calls and a dead crow was found in the house.

The incident seems to be linked with the body of a dead doctor found in the church together with a dead crow. The doctor was well respected, he had worked in a psychiatric hospital, fed the homeless but Geordie and Sidney discover that doctor seems to have anticipated his death somewhat. They also find that the death of another person who worked at the hospital a few months earlier might had also been foul play.

A good opener but nothing too remarkable. It is rather easy to conclude that the psychiatric hospital was an horrid place and had skeletons to hide. The soap opera elements concerning both Geordie and Sidney was underwhelming.
