Here Comes the Fallout
Samuel-Shovel25 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
As what typically happens towards the back end of House of Cards seasons, the tower that the Underwood administration has built begins to fracture and crumble around the Underwood's and their underlings. How will they get themselves out of this one? As Frank mentions in this episode, there always seems to be a target on his back. Unfortunately for the president, its typically a target of his own making. He unnecessarily provokes former President Walker in this episode really for no reason but spite. Senator Romero has went from on the ropes to in complete control.

The Underwood advisors are about to go rogue. From Jane Davis to Usher to Seth, all seem capable of doing serious damage to the administration and none of them seem completely loyal to the cause. Meanwhile aides like Leann who have shown loyalty are pushed to the side. Frank & Claire may have misplayed their hands a bit. Now with Aidan dead, will Leann be out for revenge? What will come of Sean Jefferies' findings? When will Hammerschmidt go public? Will this be the time when the Underwood's have too many scandals to cope with? Claire seems to want out again, can Frank maintain control? Conclusion: A good episode and teaser of what's to come.

"The dead sleep with their eyes open, my grandfather would say. They're watching you from the past"
TheLittleSongbird23 June 2020
Did not think of Season 5 highly at all at first on admission, actually considered it the weakest season of 'House of Cards' before Season 6 came along. On re-watch, all the episodes of the fifth season have been better than remembered but all have been patchy and the season is still the show's second weakest. but all the episodes have a lot of things that are good. None of the episodes are what one calls irredeemable, it takes a lot in my view to call any episode for any show that.

"Chapter 62" to me is one of the season's better episodes alongside "Chapter 59" up to this point of the season and even overall, found the other episodes above watchable but ranging between average and pretty good. "Chapter 62" is not 'House of Cards' in its prime by all means and is a long way from amazing, but there is a lot that works and overall it is a very good episode if not an incredible one, not like the best of Seasons 1-4 (prime-'House of Cards').

It is a stylishly filmed episode and a fittingly scored one too. Most of the dialogue has characteristic bite and provokes thought, while the story is more suspenseful and more compelling than most of the season's previous episodes without feeling as rushed or cramped. Jane and particularly LeAnn are good support, with good supporting performances from Patricia Clarkson and lovely Neve Campbell.

Scott Campbell is suitably icy as an increasingly interesting Usher. Frank and Claire are as ruthless as ever, though there should have been more of them together. The acting is uniformly good.

To me though, there was still no point to the Claire and Yates plotting, which is also very dull like Yates himself this season.

Petrov was far more interesting and menacing in Season 3, here he is a little cartoonish (through no fault though of Lars Mikkelsen) in a subplot that has yet to properly progress.

Overall though, very good for Season 5. 8/10

Intrigue goes up
snoozejonc9 May 2023
Enemies start to close in on Frank from various directions.

This is a strong episode with some intriguing plot developments and good character moments.

The Underwoods deal with threats to their power virtually every episode, but the best ones are usually when the threats are bigger and more credible. This is one of those episodes and characters like Usher, Davis, Romero are used well by the writers, who also bring previous faces out of the woodwork cleverly.

Other characters like Leann Harvey and Aiden Macallen have memorable moments.

As always the cinematography and art design is beautiful.

All cast are aim great form, especially the two leads.

A Great Unraveling
Hitchcoc26 June 2017
This is quite an episode. Frank, to Claire's chagrin, begins to overstep. He has assumed all along that there was no one that couldn't be bought or threatened. The problem is that this kind of overconfidence has made his godhead, and hence he figures to always land on his feet. What takes place is time and events that begin to pile up around him. Finally there are people of integrity, including the former President, who are willing to finally say what happened. When he gets before the committee, he decides to not invoke the Fifth Amendment and to present his thoughts for all to see. Aidan returns and Frank will never be able to find out what he told the Russians, as you shall see. Doug's trail is becoming hotter and hotter. Claire makes an admission to Tom in bed, and it is astounding. Frank's biggest mistake is not listening to his wife, who has a much more balanced view of the Presidency and its future. Mostly it is a serious failure to keep way too many balls in the air.
