When the Queen receives the news of President Kennedy's assassination on November 22, 1963, she is outdoors in daytime in Scotland. The shooting of the president occurred at 12:30 p.m. Central Time in the United States, and news of the event wasn't broadcast for at least fifteen minutes. Because Scotland is six hours ahead of the Central Time Zone in the U.S., it would have been dark, especially that far north in November.
When Elizabeth and her mother are watching the news on TV, the announcer says that the Kennedy's visited Paris before Vienna, but in the same scene, Elizabeth mentioned that after Vienna, they will visit Paris and London.
When President Kennedy died (22.11.63) Queen Elizabeth was nearly six months pregnant with Prince Edward (born 10.03.64) but there is no sign of a bump when she receives the news (in daylight at 7pm)
Historical photographs of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip's real dinner with the Kennedys reveal that while everything about the Queen's dress and jewelry for the event is accurate, Jackie Kennedy's costume is NOT. Her gown was not strapless as portrayed in this episode and she wore much larger dangling pearl earrings which were shown off by her pulled-back, up-do hair (as opposed to the loose style shown in this episode).
Queen Elizabeth and The Queen Mother say that Jackie Kennedy is the same age as Queen Elizabeth. Elizabeth was born April 21, 1926 and Jackie Kennedy was born July 28,1929 making the Queen just over three years older than Jackie Kennedy.
The depiction of events in this episode gives the impression that the Kennedys' visit to Buckingham Palace occurred only a short time before John F. Kennedy was assassinated. In fact the visit took place in June 1961 (only a few months after Kennedy's inauguration), and he was killed in November 1963, almost two and a half years later. This dramatic license is inconsistent with The Crown's own internal time-line and narrative, since the very next episode (Paterfamilias (2017) ) depicts events (including the start of Prince Charles's schooling at Gordonstoun) that occurred in the Spring of 1962.
