The Violin Player
3 main characters
Karin - the violin player who can't play anymore so teaches
Antii - the student
Bjorn- Karin's former conductor and mentor
No need to provide plot outline; it's available elsewhere and not too complicated.
Shot with a lot of close-ups with the background out of focus. signifies, perhaps, the future is unknown for all three.
A sensory experience - the music is beautiful; Karin's country house is beautiful - snow, ice, brittle, like Karin; the Strad is beautiful - Antii smells it, and you can almost smell it too.
Curiously, though it's not an emotional experience. The three main characters are not very likeable; it's hard to feel for them.
Psychologically, though it's very intriguing; who is using who. They all take from each other but give very little in return. Their obsessions are intertwined.
Overall, a fine film and worth a look.
