A tense, emotional, and tightly written instalment gets the season rolling after a stagnant premiere.
In a way, I wish that they had broadcast the first two episodes together, because the first one did not impress me at all. I found that it had way too much running around in the woods and not nearly enough character or plot. Last week's instalment left me thoroughly underwhelmed, which is why it was such a pleasant surprise when this one turned out to be one of the show's best.

This episode contains all the elements that have worked well for Orphan Black in the past, such as betrayals, secrets, reveals, clones pretending to be other clones, and most of all steadily rising tension that ends in a violent climax. All the best episodes of the show have had some of these elements, and this one had them all. It also advances the plot significantly and sets the final season off to a roll, something which the premiere failed to do.

Even with the tense action-packed main plot of the episode, we also managed to squeeze in a resolution to the P.T. Westmorland cliffhanger from last season. While I still find the idea of a 170 year old man inherently ridiculous, I liked the actor a lot and thought the scene was well written. However, one thing confused me. He says that he created the clones, but I thought that Ethan and Rachel Duncan created them. Maybe they were working for him, but at the moment the whole situation seems a little muddled and confused. I'm hoping for some clarification down the line.

This episode managed to renew my confidence in Orphan Black. I'm now really looking forward to the remaining 8 episodes. I hope they can pull together a satisfying conclusion to it all.

[8.5] The painful sacrifice

Warning: Spoilers
The episode that should have been merged and aired with the first of season 5. It was much more satisfying with twists and gripping emotional moments, mostly in the negative spectrum.

One death and sacrifice was really heartbreaking and I genuinely hope that the culprit get a violent end befitting his actions.

Clutch of Evil

Warning: Spoilers
Warning do not read unless seen episode.

This was a solid episode. We see here that NeoEvelution/ Rachel has home court advantage over the Clone Club as they are sadly out manned and outgunned. Here she is giving some sort of deal where she will stop acting against them and let them get on with their lives if they corporate; this obviously is her sick way just to get to Kira. Sarah just like us knows this is a raw deal, because this also gives Rachel the advantage to destroy everyone anytime she wants. So yeah this deal sucks.

This episode in a way is a bit of a heist episode as we see Sarah rolling the die on her plan on getting Kira away from Rachel's sight and on their way to freedom. Once again we see her doing the clone impersonation thing again as she's disguising herself as Rachel, I always find this kinda funny as it's of course the same actress. Really like how the whole swapping goes down, as Kira like a basketball gets passed around to one character after another.

There is a dose of tragedy as we see MK risks her life for Sarah and Kira's well being by acting as a decoy. To MK it didn't make a difference since she was dying anyway, the disease was already taking it's toll on her and despite the cure it wouldn't get to her on time. Ferdinand we see then despite discovering it's not Rachel, doesn't care as he just kills MK in anger sort of taking disassosiative revenge on Rachel and the clones at the same time; it really shows how psychotic he truly is. Despite not a fan of the character, MK's death really made me feel bad, so yeah we've lost one member to the clone club; as for Ferdinand your on my hit list now.

There is even more bad news, despite the efforts it was all for not as we see Kira doesn't want to run away. I don't really blame her as life on the run has finally taken it's toll on her, the poor girl never really got to live much of her life, let alone she has no answers to her mutant abilities which even Sarah can't provide. Life on the run has also taken a toll on the rest as we see the looks on Nick and Mrs. S which are slight werryness knowledge what their doing is futile and Mrs. S we see as usual lays Sarah with wisdom.

Mrs. S is right running isn't going to work anymore, even if they run their always going to find them and it won't stop them doing what their doing. There's a good cinematography shot where we see a distressed Sarah walk toward an area looking at the city across the river and the sun is shining, showing that true freedom is out of reach.

It comes to a slightly heart sinking ending as we see Kira walking away from the loving arms of Sarah and into Rachel's evil clutches. We see cinematography shot on both their faces where Rachel's is one of sick triumph and Sarah's is one of genuine sadness knowing just like their freedom, Kira has also became out of reach.

The time to stop running is usually the time to fight.
