From guns to tacos
nogodnomasters28 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The basic plot of the film is a taco war between Taco Dollar and the evil roach coach that parks across the street. The film had a number of personal subplots in an attempt to find humor with unrealistic characters. The battle between the two ends up with sabotage and physical fighting.

Guide: No swearing, sex, or nudity. Adult situations.

Not funny
Randy-Dreammaker7 April 2019
Full of gender, ethnic and cultural stereo typically bias. Storyline is average, not very funny for a movie trying to be a comedy.

Not for Sensitive Fairies

As one review says, this movie is full of racial and some gender bias, but that is absolutely the beauty of this low budget film. If you like movies like Nacho Libre or Napoleon Dynamite, you're gonna like this movie. For anyone concerned about sexual content, but it's nothing crazy. Absolutely a perfect example of a good, funny, edgy, low budget film.

If your looking for...
lightweavers1 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
If your looking for at least a dozen story lines that hardly connect at all, this film fits the bill. The cinematography is good quality, acting is good, and the film feels like random occurrence upon random occurrence.

You have a cast of workers in a comedy beginning at a fictional Taco restaurant. Our protagonist is hard to nail down given we start out with 3 potential protagonists.

Then the charaters are just as odd and random. Which for this film workes out well. You run into race jokes, and oddly placed Steriotyped role placements. A bit of food humor and pranks/vandalism abound for the idea of comady.

Given I mostly watched the project for the actor Tyler Posey, first loved his work in Teen Wolf-I aim to watch every project listed on his IMBD page.

extremely underrated movie
kanoasoul21 May 2023
I love movies that seem like normal days. No huge catastrophe lurking around. Just a work crew going through another day. I found it hilarious, watching it, is seems like a group of friends just being natural with random things happening. And Sox.....Damn I really hope they just let him do his thing and improvise, he is awesome. The back and forth had me rolling. The movie has just enough random to keep it interesting.

You look at other movies out right now and it just seems like they are putting way to much into telling a story and that is what I really like about this movie, super chill, funny, and just a turn your mind off and enjoy kind of movie.

This movie will eventually get a lot of love. The closing track "New Day" by Kurupt feat. T. Nassar & Jenn Em is perfect for this movie.

A soon to be cult classic
richard-102-21648126 April 2022
A really enjoyable, engaging, ridiculous but real comedy. The jokes are often tasteless, and not for the thin-skinned. But somehow it is enjoyable enough watch again. Lots of talent displayed by all involved for a low-budget classic.

Another Classic Wacky Comedy to Add to My Favorites Collection
CromeRose8 June 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Totally impressed! The opening music is very Tarantino-esque, which is a great mood setter while you watch the credits run over images of delicious Mexican food.

I was surprised at how many times I laughed out loud - and that's not hyperbole. Joaquin Perea and his cast & crew have made cool, funny little movie full of offbeat, quirky, and in some cases downright weird characters, very reminiscent of the cast of wacky characters in Office Space. The impressive cast of Taco Shop breathes very real life into these way-out characters. The two leads, Smokes and Susie (played by Tyler Posey and Veronica Diaz Carranza) are the straight characters, and I loved the genuine and sincere chemistry they had - they were truly believable and are both great actors. The rest of the cast is wacky and funny and really inhabit their characters with gusto and zaniness. It was also great to see Eric Roberts not shooting and killing people but being a nice guy even if his character was an ex-con who admits he was guilty ("I hope they never run my DNA" - LOL).

I don't know where the casting department found the guys who play Bruce and Nate, but they are hilarious! And I love Eve - well done to the filmmakers for casting Paula Jai Parker in a role that was written for a Latina (I saw her say that in the bonus features) - she was well cast - she sort of reminded me of a young Whoopee Goldberg, but much better-looking. All the actors playing the quirky characters were riotously funny! Sox was hilarious!

The script is clever, and the many laugh-out-loud one-liners are surprisingly intellectual as well as hilarious. "You're not a serial-killer, are you?" "Well, that's more than one, right?" "I love Ghandi, he's one of the greatest people that ever died" I laughed out loud at those lines. And the homage to Jaws "We're gonna need a bigger broom" - loved it! Love the "wet taco" scene and the weird Indian investor - he was a blast. The whole Eve telling him she's part Indian and not getting that he's not Native American! And Rick Najera is funny too - that random-seeming scene where the hottie porn princess walks in to try and win him back was reminiscent of the scene where Daisy Duke woos Deputy Enos - and the "You chose music, I chose tacos, I'm a taco man" conversation was hysterical. This is up there now with my faves like American Pie, Harold & Kumar, Super Troopers, Dude, Where's My Car - this is Dude, Where's My Taco, and Employee of the Month (the Jessica Simpson one not the Matt Dillon one). Taco Shop has the sort random craziness in it that I enjoy in comedy movies.

Well done and congratulations to Joaquin Perea and his team.

Future cult classic
alexbaldoni16 February 2024
So bad, it's good. This lowbrow comedy, is a homage to Long Beach culture and over the top, exaggerated racial stereotypes. If you're not laughing at the non-stop situations and one liners, you need your funny bone checked. This day in the life of a Taco shop with quirky personalities and endless potty humor is worth a watch with family, friends, and definitely your teen kids. Think latin version of "Good Burger" meets "Macho Libre". The punchlines tend to miss the mark at times, and other times nailed. The imperfections and twisted plot line will make this laugh flick a soon to be cult classic.
