It would be an understatement to say that Warner Bros. and DC’s interconnected superhero franchise hasn’t turned out exactly as planned, with a whole host of previously-announced movies being abandoned, and several of the major characters that were originally set to play a huge role in the Dceu either being sidelined or re-cast completely.
The future looks a whole lot different from how it was set to play out during Zack Snyder’s time at the helm, with the filmmaker’s longest-lasting contribution to the series now being the will they/won’t they saga surrounding his cut of Justice League that’s been dragging on for over two and a half years.

There’s not a single in-development film or TV show out there that hasn’t been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Or so it seems.
In just a few short months, the virus has grounded flights, seen major events cancelled and forced most of the world into lockdown. So, it’s not too surprising to see one project after another get hit with a delay, and the standalone Black Adam movie is no different.
The Dceu pic, which still has Dwayne Johnson set to star – yes, even after all these years and years of false hope and non-starts – was originally set to begin filming in the coming weeks. But now, thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, production has been pushed back well into the summer.

Black Adam might be the ultimate nemesis of Billy Batson’s superhero alter ego, but don’t expect Dwayne Johnson’s upcoming debut movie as the anti-villain to crossover that much with the world of Shazam! Johnson’s been attached to the role of Adam for years, and was originally set to be the villain of the 2019 film, but as we know, he was handed his own project instead, given The Rock’s star power. Likewise, don’t go thinking he’ll show up in Shazam! 2.
At least, that’s what it sounds like going by new comments made by director David F. Sandberg. The filmmaker, who’s returning to helm the second outing for Zachary Levi’s aged-up hero, revealed to ComicBook.com that he’s had no involvement with the Black Adam team so far and the two productions are basically keeping to themselves. According to Sandberg, he...

There’s a lot of uncertainty in Hollywood right about now, with many major upcoming releases being pushed back to later in the year. The same goes for those that were due to start shooting in the next few months as well. When it comes to DC’s Black Adam, it’s hard to say at this point whether it’ll be able to go ahead or not, as the long-awaited solo film for The Rock’s anti-hero isn’t supposed to kick off production until this July. But will it have to be delayed?
It turns out that’s something even the star himself doesn’t know. Dwayne Johnson took to Instagram for a live video recently, in which he touched based on what looks to be happening with Black Adam. He explained that he’s “excited” to get started on it, but he’s not sure whether things...

Grab your calendars and save the date: DC’s Black Adam will begin shooting this summer.
Via Instagram, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson reminded his 174 million followers that the upcoming Dceu pic will head before the cameras later this year. Which is music to our ears, frankly, seeing as the actor has been signed on to play the beloved antihero since as far back as *checks calendar* 2008. We kid you not.
Seriously, it’s been a long, long wait to see The Rock bring Black Adam to life and based on his latest workout photo, he’s ready to bring his A-game to the role. And let’s just say that the DC Universe is not ready.
You can check out his most recent gym shot, along with the caption that accompanied it (and a few previous pics that he’s shared), down below:

Despite his characters generally enduring all kinds of ridiculous situations and performing insane feats of heroism, Dwayne Johnson has never played a comic book superhuman. That’s all set to change with Black Adam though, which will see Johnson transformed into the titular villain/antihero. The project has had a long road towards its shoot, hampered by his busy filming schedule and various scheduling conflicts within Warner Bros. But finally, that’s all cleared up now.
Jaume Collet-Serra is set to direct, with production beginning in July 2020 for a December 22nd, 2021 release date. For those that thought their time with the villains from Shazam! was too short, it seems they may make a triumphant return to the big screen. According to our sources – the same ones who told us Daniel Radcliffe is being eyed to play the McU’s Moon Knight and that Bill Murray is returning for Ghostbusters: Afterlife, both of which have since been confirmed – the DC villains known as the Seven Deadly Sins will make a comeback in The Rock’s long-awaited Black Adam film.

With the critically and commercially acclaimed Joker, DC has ushered in a new sub-genre of superhero movies – the supervillain movie. Assuming you don’t count Birds of Prey (Harley Quinn’s more of an anti-hero), the next one of its type to come from Warner Bros. is Black Adam, the Shazam! spinoff set to star Dwayne Johnson as the ancient ruler of Kahndaq. And just in case you were, don’t expect it to be anything like Joaquin Phoenix’s dark psychological thriller.
Cinematographer Lawrence Sher previously worked on Joker and is due to join The Rock and director Jaume Collet-Serra on Black Adam. While speaking to Observer, Sher revealed when we can expect production on the film to begin and gave a tease at how his next DC movie won’t be like his last, saying that BA is “slightly more traditional” than Joker.
“The good news is we don’t shoot until July.

If the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has voted the way I think they have, Monday morning’s Oscar nominations will be followed by an inevitable outcry that the slate is too male and too white.
While African American actors like Eddie Murphy, Lupita Nyong’o, Jamie Foxx, Wesley Snipes and Alfre Woodard all have shots at landing nominations, as do Asian or Asian-American actors Awkwafina, Zhao Shuzhen and Song Kang Ho, I expect that there will be precisely one non-white acting nominee, “Harriet” star Cynthia Erivo, along with two Hispanic ones, Antonio Banderas and Jennifer Lopez.
And even though Greta Gerwig could well receive a Best Director nomination, I suspect she’ll be edged out by Pedro Almodovar, who will fill out a very international but completely male slate.

Edd Byrnes, star of the 1950s and ’60s TV hit “77 Sunset Strip” who went on to co-star in the 1978 smash “Grease,” has died, the actor’s son, Logan Byrnes, confirmed Thursday via Facebook. He was 87.
Byrnes died at his home in Santa Monica, according to Logan Byrnes, who is a news anchor for Kusi-tv San Diego.
Byrnes became a comedic sensation as the co-star of the ABC detective drama “77 Sunset Strip,” starring Efrem Zimbalist Jr. as a hip L.A. private detective. Byrnes played Kookie, the parking lot attendant with a habit of running his comb through his slick hair. His character, Gerald Kookson III, introduced a host of early ’60s slang into mainstream primetime culture.
The series was among a slew of slick action-dramas that the fledgling Warner Bros. Television division produced for the Big Three networks in the late 1950s and early ’60s.

It seems incredible to think, but the Dceu has been on the go for close to a decade now, with Zack Snyder first being announced as the director of Man of Steel back in October 2010. Since then, it would be fair to say that the franchise has struggled for consistency.
Instead of taking the slow-burning approach that worked so well for Marvel, DC and Warner Bros. threw everything at their own shared universe, with Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice packed with enough story and world-building to fill three movies. This was all done to get to Justice League as soon as possible, and we all know how that turned out, because nobody even talks about the theatrical version anymore, with all of the conversation centered solely on the Snyder Cut.

Billy Batson rounds out the Shazam Family for his battle with Black Adam and the Deadly Sins.
Shazam is turning in one of my favorite villain team ups of all time. I can think of other rogues galleries that might make me lose my mind harder, but pound for pound, putting the Seven Deadly Sins, Dr. Sivana, Mr. Mind, and Black Adam on the same page is almost guaranteed to make me excited.
Dr. Sivana is pretty much my ideal mad scientist. He’s as arrogant as any other villain in comics, and when that’s done well, it’s perfection. If you peel away Sivana’s self regard, he can actually be a pretty capable villain, but his ridiculously high opinion of himself always gets in the way and leads to his defeat.
Black Adam is surprisingly one of my favorite characters in all of comics because of his versatility.

New Line and Warner has revealed that a Shazam! sequel is on the Dceu docket, set to arrive in 2022.

While no plot or cast details were revealed, Warner Bros. is sticking with its winning formula, since director David F. Sandberg is confirmed to return to the job, working off a script by Henry Gayden, who wrote the final draft of the first film’s screenplay.

Shazam! may not have come anywhere close to matching Aquaman’s $1.15 billion box office haul, but the David F. Sanberg-directed comic book blockbuster still brought in a respectable $364.3 million worldwide for Warner Bros., and on a $100 million budget no less. It’s also probably the best-reviewed entry in the DC Extended Universe yet. Though it’s not like it really has much competition in that regard.
Still, Shazam! was a big success on all counts and now, the studio has made all that talk of a sequel official by announcing today that Shazam! 2 will be with us on April 1st, 2022. Still, Shazam! was a big success on all counts and now, the studio has made all that talk of a sequel official by announcing today that Shazam! 2 will be with us on April 1st, 2022. The investigation into Tiffany Hudson’s murder took a backseat on Wednesday’s fall finale of Nancy Drew, which introduced a few slightly more pressing matters into the mix — including one jaw-dropping final twist.
Let’s begin with the case of George’s missing sister: Ted’s mysterious disappearance triggered Nancy’s memories of a kidnapping case she solved back when she was 12. (Humblebrag!) With the original kidnapper, a real barrel of monkeys named Nathan Gomber, still behind bars, Team Nancy deduced that a copycat must have taken Ted. And after a little more digging, we got a name — Moira Baker.

Looking back at the lineups of key festivals such as Cannes and Venice this year, 2019 stands out as a banner year for movies from the African continent and the Arab world.
During a panel hosted at the Netflix-sponsored industry event Atlas Workshops during the Marrakech Film Festival, Rémi Bonhomme, who works at Cannes’ Critics’ Week and heads up the conference, pointed out the vital role of festivals in showcasing films from the Mena region.
“There were even films from the region playing in the official selection at Cannes, most of which were debut films, apart from Elia Suleiman’s “It Must Be Heaven.” He cited Mati Diop’s “Atlantics,” which competed at Cannes and won the Grand Prize, and “Papicha” and “Adam,” which played in Un Certain Regard. These three films are representing Senegal, Algeria and Morocco, respectively, in the international feature film section of the Oscars.

Joker may finally be winding down its record-breaking run at the box office, and is now gearing up for a big awards season push, but the knock-on effects from Todd Phillips’ R-rated origin story will likely continue to be felt for years to come. Not only has the movie’s success reopened the debate about how viable and marketable adult-skewing superhero stories have become to modern audiences, but some in-production projects in the genre like Venom 2 are also thinking about now following suit.
Hollywood’s big budget output tends to follow whatever trends are popular at the moment, whether it be dark and gritty reboots, post-converted 3D or cinematic universes. Joker’s billion dollar haul will likely mean more R-rated blockbusters will start getting the green light, as rival studios look to capitalize on the critical and commercial fanfare that greeted Arthur Fleck’s origin story.

Moroccan director Nour-Eddine Lakhmari – whose trilogy of films, “Casanegra,” “Zero” and “Burnout,” were major local hits – is completing a documentary for the Marrakech Film Festival Foundation, entitled “Turn the Light On,” about the Foundation’s medical-social campaign, that provides free cataract surgery treatment.
The campaign is organized in partnership with the Ministry of Health and the Hassan II Foundation of Ophthalmology and has been in existence since 2009. Lakhmari filmed 310 operations in one week.
A 6-minute teaser from the documentary will be screened in the closing ceremony of the Marrakech Film Festival on Saturday. The final 45-minute version will be released in early 2020.
Lakhmari is also preparing a new feature film about a young woman who runs away from home and moves to a remote village in Morocco. This marks a significant break from the style and themes of his previous films, which revolved around strong male protagonists, street violence and were all lensed in Casablanca.

Despite the vast and ever-increasing roster of characters available to Kevin Feige as he plots the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the company’s recently-appointed Chief Creative Officer has frequently reiterated his desire to bring even more fresh faces into the biggest franchise in history. As well as being keen to reboot the likes of the former Netflix heroes into the McU, the studio will also be looking to introduce some fan-favorite names that have yet to appear on the big screen.
One of the biggest and most popular heroes that has yet to receive their McU debut is Namor, which may have something to do with rights issues. Much like the Hulk, the movie rights to Namor belong to Universal, which means that like Bruce Banner’s green alter-ego, the Prince of Atlantis could theoretically appear as a supporting character in a Marvel Studios blockbuster, but couldn’t headline a standalone movie.

A blast from the DC Comics past is finally getting the big screen treatment, as The Justice Society of America will be featured in New Line’s upcoming “Black Adam,” star Dwayne Johnson said Thursday.
During the press junket Thursday for “Jumanji: The Next Level,” Johnson told Screenrant that the film “will introduce you to that, the world to Jsa.”
Created by editor Sheldon Mayer and writer Gardner Fox in 1940 for All-Star Comics, the Justice Society of America is notable not only as the first superhero team in comic book history but, because it featured characters owned by both National Comics and All-Star Comics publisher All-American Publications, also as the first crossover between rival comic book companies.
National contributed its characters Doctor Fate, Hour-Man, the Spectre, and the Wesley Dodd version of The Sandman (an entirely separate character from one created by Neil Gaiman in 1988). All-American meanwhile contributed The Atom...

Despite the rich source material to draw from, Warner Bros. has so far failed to make the most of the Green Lantern Corps on the big screen. 2011’s Green Lantern movie starring Ryan Reynolds could have been the start of something big, if only it had been any good. Given that Dwayne Johnson has been attached to Black Adam in some capacity for well over a decade now, you’d be forgiven for taking every time the actor talked up the project with a huge pinch of salt. Given how long the pic seemed to be languishing in development hell, many people thought that the DC Comics adaptation may never even see the light of day.
However, in recent months, Black Adam has been picking up some serious steam, perhaps buoyed by the critical and commercial success that greeted the big screen debut of his arch-nemesis Shazam!, and earlier today, Johnson took to social media to announce an official release date for the movie, as well as provide us with a glimpse of some concept art showing him suited up in costume.

Oh, have you reached the right page? We know you were looking for the review of Aunt Minerva’s Hymns of Faith in 3-D. We instead have uncovered a blistering, too-too spicy duo of ‘adult movies,’ created for dirty old men in the prehistoric days before humanity was transformed by X-rated porn. The first show may be the professional screen directing debut of Francis Coppola, moonlighting from UCLA. It’s something of a wreck, but he was not one to miss an opportunity to write and direct. The second picture, in gorgeous color and eye-popping 3-D, is so good as to suggest an art revival, if today’s PC culture wasn’t so likely to condemn a vintage girlie entertainment out of hand. But then again, the sub-genre is supposed to be forbidden and Taboo. Blu-ray 3-D conquers all!

El Gouna Ff 2019: ‘Adam’ in Feature Narrative Competition‘Adam’, the debut feature by Moroccan director Maryam Touzani was awarded the El Gouna Bronze Star for Narrative Film.
Adam is a beautiful chamber piece about two vulnerable women: Samia (Nisrine Erradi), an unwed pregnant woman in this conservative Arab country who shows up in Casablanca’s Medina looking for a job and a place to spend the night, and Alba (Lubna Azabal), a young widow with an eight-year-old daughter (Douae Belkhaouda), who begrudgingly takes her in. Their relationship grows along with the pregnant woman’s baby and with their own emotional healing and development. Adam is a women’s meditation on life and the family.
The relationship between the two woman and the young daughter of the widow develops bit by bit and each step brings the viewer into their small circle. By the end, one feels a part of the family they have created.

The star of “Aladdin,” Egyptian-Canadian actor Mena Massoud, called for a greater diversity of storytelling in movies and television when he spoke at the glamorous opening ceremony Thursday of the 3rd edition of Egypt’s El Gouna Film Festival.
Massoud, whose credits include Amazon’s “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” and Hulu’s “Reprisal,” lauded “the power of art” to change society.
“As artists we have an extraordinary and rare privilege to tell the stories of our people, our land, our culture. They grip us, tear us apart, and put us back together. We are our stories.
“When I was growing up [in Canada] I never really saw people that looked like me on the big screen, and that made me feel like I didn’t belong there, and there wasn’t room for my story.”
He added: “When we represent all cultures with sensitivity and truth, we foster a society that supports all people.
