Better Than An Arranged Marriage. ♦ Grade C+
nairtejas8 April 2017
While one cannot call this comedy drama a breath of fresh air in Bollywood, it definitely merits to be called using an adjective like "watchable".

With some great performances by Amit Sadh, Taapsee Pannu, and Brijendra Kala, this comic film about a group of friends running a clandestine marriage bureau where they help people in love elope is engaging. Supported by a thick North Indian accent that is used by almost all characters, it goes on to explore the hardships faced by young men and women who are in love yet fail to live together due to familial and societal pressures. The film couldn't released in better time than when honor killings are rampant in the country. Ample humor and a well-executed second half makes me wanna expect more from debutante director Amit Roy.

BOTTOM LINE: It's on DVD now, and there's no excuse for you to not watch it.

Can be watched with a typical Indian family? NO, but you should.

Running Shaadi can be only watched because of Tapsee and decent first half but second half seriously disappoints.
shobanchittuprolu4 April 2017
Running Shaadi (2017) Tapsee Pannu rarely showed her skills in acting during her time in Tollywood. But since when she entered Bollywoood, she is giving her best performances for every film she is in.In Pink, her performance is award winning and she got huge recognition with that film. So,Running Shaadi garnered attention only because of Tapsee. The plot of Running Shaadi is web sited version of Tollywood film Kotha Janta in which our lead actors help eloped lovers to get married in their TV show in Live. Here our lead actors create a website for the same purpose.

Plot:

Fresh out of a job, Ram Bharose (Amit Sadh), his friend Cyber (Arsh Bajwa) and his ex-employer's daughter Nimmi (Taapsee Pannu) start a matrimony service to help couples elope. Will he find himself as a client some day??

Plus Points:

1)Performances: Tapsee once again shined with brilliant performance as stubborn Nimmi. She is the star of the film and carried the entire film on her shoulders.Arsh Bajwa is hilarious.Amit sadh is Okay.

2)First half: With an interesting start movie rises hopes but slowly it turns out into an ordinary romantic comedy but still it has good dun elements in first half.

Minus Points:

1)Second half: Second half is overly predictable and boring. It follows the same template of Heroine and Hero eloping, family chasing, injuries to heroine, care taken by hero blah blah blah..

So,Running Shaadi can be only watched because of Tapsee and decent first half but second half seriously disappoints.

My rating 5.5/10

A Nicely Done Rom-Com!
namashi_118 September 2017
Writer-Director Amit Roy's 'Running Shaadi' rests on an interesting premise & makes pretty good use of it. Warm & Lighthearted, this underrated Rom-Com is a pleasant surprise, that also benefits from the fine performances by its talented cast.

'Running Shaadi' Synopsis: Two friends, Ram Bharose and tech genius Cyberjeet, create a website that helps lovers to elope. The site is an instant hit; young couples line up for the opportunity to escape strict families and run away with the ones they love. But Bharose ends up in a fix when Nimmi, his lady-love, decides to elope with him against her disapproving family.

'Running Shaadi' talks about the serious issue of how young couples in India face numerous troubles by their whacked up families, who compare people from caste, to religion to rich to poor. Its a burning issue that exists very much even today. But, 'Running Shaadi' tackles this issue with a humorous approach, resulting into a likable narrative, that always stays easy to absorb.

What works for the film is the Nicely Written Screenplay by Navjot Gulati & Amit Roy himself, who bring out a story worth telling & even the characters, be it the leads of the supporting players, appear real. The setting in Punjab appears realistic & the goings-on swing by without any major bump. Sure, the Writing in the second-hour could've been tighter, but then again, the Writing never loses pace or makes you lose interest. Roy's Direction, too, deserves brownie points. He's churned out a likable Rom-Com, that tackles a relevant issue without ever getting preachy. Cinematography & Editing are crisply done. Art & Costume Design are decent. Music by Various Artists, is a mixed bag.

Performance-Wise: Amit Sadh is in excellent form as Ram Bharose. The actor enacts the timid yet helpful protagonist with genuine feeling. Taapsee Pannu is lovable as the rebellious yet adorable Nimmi. The on-screen chemistry of Sadh & Pannu, is infectious. Arsh Bajwa as Cyberjeet, enacts his part a bit too up the nose. Of the supporting cast, the always terrific Brijendra Kala does wonders as Bharose's amusing mama.

On the whole, 'Running Shaadi' is a good watch. Watch It!

A watchable film, nothing more or less

Good, if mostly forgettable.

'Running Shaadi' features an interesting premise. It isn't executed to perfection, or anywhere close, but I felt suitably entertained for the majority. The run time could've been shorter, while the writing could've been greater no doubt. Amit Sadh and Taapsee Pannu are likeable enough and perform solidly. Arsh Bajwa is alright too, as are a few of the supporting cast.

Not much more to note. A watchable film, nothing more or less.

Sweet boy falls for mean girl, overrated. SPOILERS
neelam-938067 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This film was the worst film I saw this year. Writers cant decided what it wants to be: romcom, thriller, or underdog story. The film starts off with Nimmi getting an abortion. This sets a pretty dark tone for something that has been pitched as a light romcom. Ram Bharose is this doormat of a guy who looks way too old and mature to be putting up with Nimmi's crap.I'm not sure how old he is supposed to be, but he doesn't look younger than 25 to me. Amit Sadh is a handsome man and has an assertive air about him. It's just not believable that a guy like him would be so spineless around Taapsee pannu's character. In fact, he doesn't look like he would have issues getting with women at all, not sure why he was even running after Taapsee. Taapsee Pannu is a good actress, but here she is playing a flat character. Her character is obviously a brat, but the scene where she reveals to Ram the whole drama of why she ran away with him made me think she must be borderline sociopath. There could have been a ton of potential with this script, but the director just dropped the ball here. In the midst of woman centric films, this could have been an empowering story for males for a change. Why not center it on Bharose's immigrant experience and trying to make an identity for himself in a new city. I also really really didn't like this film glorifying bad behavior of females towards men. Nimmi sees Bharose as a toy and the director plays this off as if it is funny and empowering! I wish Bharose would have fallen in love with the Biharan girl.

Overrated!
MuviFan7327 September 2017
After searching for movies released in 2017 on Google India, there were two movies (Running Shadi, Poorna) which I dint saw that were rated above 7.5 on IMDb. After reading user reviews on IMDb, watching running shaadi was a priority. Sadly I was extremely disappointed.

Tone: Tone is based on how two friends build a website to help couples get married. The website would help couples who find trouble from their family or so in getting married. To build a movie on such a idea in itself is weak.

Direction, Screenplay, Cinematography: Direction is weak. Screen play is slow. Cinematography is okay.

Music: Music is good.

Acting: Acting is good from all leads but poor direction makes it gain low.

Final Verdict: Don't spend your penny on this one.

Clueless
kenkre_shankar1 May 2018
Good Plot and acting by Pannu and Bajwa was spoiled by unnecessary and unconvincing twists in story line. Why Nimmi flirts with other boys while she had a feeling for Little (Chhotu) or why she comes back to him is left to viewer's imagination. There seems to be more chemistry between Bajwa and Pannu than the leading couple, Pannu and Sadh.

Super Entertaining Cast
johnb-3882518 February 2017
First of all this movie is not about Runningshaad.com, it's a love story . I was really expecting to see the runningshaadi but disappointed.. The Directions looks Cheap and camera moves all the time , the pace of the movie is very fast in Funny scenes and very slow when the stupid love story is happening . Amit sadh have played Bihari - Punjabi nicely and Taapsee's character is very unsure . Cyberjeet Played by New Comer Arsh bajwa have done marvellous Job . His Natural subtle acting , Body language and specially his way of looking at things will make you laugh .. other small characters like Ujala mama played by bijender Kala is super entertainer and his wife 's Dance moves are killer ! I'm giving 10 out of 10 only for the Actors .

Refreshingly nice
jaya-nigam25 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
It's a very refreshing take on relationships that form over time. Warning- spoilers A schoolgirl exploring romantic relationships while in the middle of the hormone laden teenage years suffers a setback when she gets pregnant while out on a Valentine's Day date. A family friend, Bharose, comes to her rescue - helping her fake a letter from school, taking her to a medical clinic , even suffering the advice given by the doctor who assumes he's the impregnator. He does all this without any expectation of payback as a platonic friend. While some men take this behavior by a man to showcase 'doormat ' qualities- to me personally, it shows heroism and friendship and displaying a sense of chivalry towards a helpless girl that's tough to find these days. Moving on, the girl does show romantic interest in Bharose but is mainly interested in the men her age who can provide her the kind of comforts she's used to. This is the part that the director has not focused at all on and has left to the imagination of the audience. Bharose is shown to understand and accept that due to their class difference , he wouldn't be able to woo her and he tries to move on by saying yes to a traditional arranged marriage proposal. This again shows a very mature person who doesn't throw acid at the girl he can't have, doesn't bother her with unwanted sexual harassment or stalking, and just tries to make a clean exit out of her life- like I said, very refreshing to see in an Indian movie!! The girl finally sees him for all he that is- a mature, genuinely respectable, good man who's unlike any other she's met. Despite his illiteracy, lack of modern manners or even money- she realizes that the intangible qualities that he has makes him the man of her dreams. She tries to get closer to him- not quite knowing how to, she tries to help him with his business venture and to use that as an excuse to spend time with him. This is another thing I loved about the movie- it's not a 'boy sees pretty girl, chases after her relentlessly - almost stalling her- till she gives in' kind of a movie but a 'boy helps a girl he knows without looking for payback, starts liking her, moves back and away when he feels that liking is not reciprocated followed by the girl chasing the guy' movie - very unusual for Indian movies. She takes matters in to her own hands when she realizes that she will be married off to a man she doesn't know, Bharose will get married and be lost to her forever- hatching a plan that involves him eloping with her without even understanding it. There are moments where both are shown to uncertain of the other's feeling towards themselves and that cute, shy interaction makes very entertaining bits to watch (almost comparable to the famous Darcy-Lizzy interactions in the BBC series starring Colin Firth' Pride and Prejudice'). Must watch for anymore looking for romantic stuff and also someone who believes that healthy relationships need to be shown more in Indian cinema.
