Hell of an atmosphere
snoozejonc27 March 2021
Elizabeth is given a high risk mission in Chicago.

This is an incredibly tense episode with a lot of build up to what feels like something big might be coming in the next few episodes.

I will not mention plot specifics but the dynamic between Phillip and Elizabeth is as edgy and uncomfortable as is possible to create on screen. I actually felt like I was part of the hostile atmosphere it depicts. Also the espionage plot is very compelling and it marries well with all the character development.

There is another great dinner table scene, which lives up to the standard of all the previous awkward, ironic dinner table moments on The Americans.

The visuals are as great as ever and the performances are once again top drawer with Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell brilliant.

Suspension of disbelief

Warning: Spoilers
The show is excellently produced and acted but one thing I have difficulty with is the Elizabeth is in fact a serial killer. She kills without hesitation or remorse anyone who gets in the way or may get in the way of her objective. Like the slaughter of the refugee family, was it necessary for them to die? They only wanted to live a normal life. The other problem is the wigs, which are changed constantly. Everybody knows wigs are easy to detect and may come off especially during 'intimate' situations of which there have been a few and cation scenes. I also find it difficult to believe that she would maintain her deep hatred of Americans after living among them for so many years

The build up continues
mm-3922 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The build up continues. Rififi episode has all the build up needed for the series ending episode. We have Stan called back into counter intelligence. Liz and Phil have a Rift and Phil questions what Liz is doing? Phil is questions his superiors and the K G B's motives. Phil has business problems and family problems, which effect Henry again. The leaving for a family dinner has Stan suspect about Phil and is the catalyst for the series ending is starting. Well Stan figure out the spy ring. Fias warrants are issued and the F B I are after a the deep cover K G B spy ring in Chicago. Will the F B I figure the K G B out? Can Liz and Phil foil the F B I's plans? A must watch episode for season six. Well acted and directed. I give Rififi nine out of ten stars.

The Jennings more Welsh than Russian
anagalilea4 May 2018
I love the show, but I live with Russians and their parents and them are so different to The Jennings, they seem a welsh/american family with a sicario-side job. Only the Russian KGB officers, and all the Russian characters save the show. My flatmatea think Kerry is just not credible and totally American.

Rififi

Warning: Spoilers
Not as good as last week's episode, but another fairly solid one.

I was never a fan of the odd dynamic between Elizabeth and Philip when they try to have them fighting, so their coldness this season and potential reconciliation at the end was not as big a deal to me as some viewers.

But some more steps in the right direction toward a big finale. Entertaining enough.
