Salesmen Are Like Vampires
Prismark1027 May 2017
White Gold is UPVC and in the 1980s, double glazing was booming. Cheap to make and expensive to buy once finance was thrown in.

This opener set in 1983 may not be laugh out loud but it throws in nostalgia with the pop music of the era as we follow Vincent who went from being sacked from his boring menial to ace double glazing salesman.

In this opener we see these salesmen acting like vampires, never invite them to your home as they will never leave without tasting blood.

Two of Vincent's team. Fitzpatrick who claims who can sell ice to Eskimos and Lavender, a more ethical one and who walked out as a guitarist from his band a few weeks before they ended up backing Paul Young on a number one hit have a bet.

Fitzpatrick tries to sell the exact same windows to someone who just had them installed several weeks earlier, an ultimate con.

A pleasant opener that moved nicely along and gave me a few chuckles but nothing laugh out loud.

Warning: Spoilers
I certainly did not need to see Vincent in his underwear in the opening scene. I also did not appreciate him peeing his pants or the huge knocker bit for Brian, maybe it is just a gap for this American viewer and British comedy, but overall this was an enjoyable pilot.

Ed Westwick is great in this role and it is refreshing to see something a bit different on TV. They need to fix the female characters though. They're lifeless and are a weak part of the show. There's a lot of great female roles in comedies these days, but not on this show.
