What did I just waste 90 minutes on?
mjsreg6 February 2019
Well - where to start.

Right from the opening scene with the AWFUL child actor I wondered what I was in for, but gave it a chance when the awful child disappeared.

But really it didn't get any better. The reason this movie crashes so badly isn't the acting or story - it is the AWFUL production.

The director/producers/crew have done NOTHING to create ANY atmosphere in this movie at all. It consists of standard shots and lighting more akin to some daytime TV film/soap opera, with the occasional (and totally out of place) soft focus 'effect' screen on a couple of close ups.

Really - I just don't know where the heads were of the production crew.

100% one to miss.

Just watching cause it is ridiculous

The casting director should have been fired cause they cant clearly pick anyone who knows how to act well. So she has a great degree and they depend on him as a writer of horror, plus they've moved from NY to the country and suddenly things are expensive? Ok. This isnt a good movie. Don't bother with it.

One of the worst HORROR movies.
tidusha8 December 2018
Very bad. The only good thing about it is the idea but not performed well, that is, the acting is awful and it also fails in scares. I laughed instead of being scared. Two stars are fair for this.

Oh dear!

What an awful movie, story boring, characters are boring, I actually carried on watching this for a while after I'd passed the point when I realised how bad it was, just because I could laugh at the terrible quality(not) of the acting.Boy oh boy this is a stinker!

Can using boring and horrible at the same thing a good way to describe the movie?
jjdynamic9 December 2018
Man oh man, I tell ya. One of the worst "horror" movies i ever seen in my life. No story, everything bounced around in the movie, acting was terrible. Time and time again we see how very few low budget movies actually keep you entertained. The amount of laughs and disappointments i had are astronomical. Dont waste your time like i did. Save yourself the trouble if you wanted to get scared, F grade horror, D- thriller at best.

Shining Ripoff
kathymarcarelli27 April 2019
Writer with psychic son and annoying wife moves into a new house to write a screenplay. It's like a badly written and acted version of the Shining. The father is even named Stanley (Kubrick). The kids name is Johnny (here's Johnny). The house makes the father crazy and causes him to drink a lot. If I was Stephen King, I would think about suing. Although there isn't much point because I'm sure this movie made no money.

*Yawn*
pwilliams-168257 December 2018
That pretty much describes this movie in one simple word: yawn. Talk about boring! There's not a single character in this thing that you actually can give a damn about, therefore you really don't care about the story! There's absolutely no development to anyone or anything. Boring story, boring characters. Do your self a favor and don't waste your time on this one. If you do, don't say I didn't warn you.

Nothing new here
phd_travel13 February 2019
This cheap feeling awkwardly directed horror is generic and not even scary or stylish.

A couple with a young boy move into a big house that is cheaper cause it has a past. Sound familiar?

Soon Husband starts obsession with his writing sticking by his typewriter and gets all unkempt and unloving to his kid. Sound familiar?

Trevor Donovan tries to do a Jack Nicholson here.

Big mistake copying famous horror movies and combining them.

So boring.

Good actor, terrible movie
BlondforReal13 May 2019
Worst movie ever! Feel bad for the actors. Trevor Donovan was great and looked hot, but he should not have done this garbage.

You buy the house, you buy me too.
nogodnomasters28 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
We are given the backstory up front. Allie (Mary Charles Miller) was punished for playing with dolls. She was locked in a chest with the dolls. She died in the chest feeding on the dolls. She haunts the house, wanting to turn its occupants into dolls so she can feed on them.

A family moves into the house. Stanely (Trevor Donovan) is working on a horror/thriller script and loves his bourbon. Jennifer is a neurophysicist who never goes to work. The eight-year-old son Johnny (Bobby Batson) talks to the dolls and sees Allie. He is a slow counter to 13. Stanely thinks his agent Benny (Steven Paul) is the biological father. He has trust issues based on his wife's past infidelity.

The film was okay. I didn't like the characters, especially the kid. The acting and dialogue were a notch below where it needed to be. The "horror" aspect was light. Maybe a few stupid jump scares. Part of a three-film set at Walmart.

Guide: No swearing, sex, or nudity.

Rip Off
icantoo17 December 2018
This is a cheap knock off of Amityville horror and the Shining. The acting is sub par. Just a no. The reason it gets any stars is because of the cheesy horror techniques which made me laugh.

Well, this was mundane...
paul_haakonsen11 December 2018
Right, well when I sat down to watch "The Ghost Beyond" I must admit that I had expected more of an actual ghost movie and not just a flaccid interpretation based on "The Others". Especially taking the movie's cover/poster into consideration. But that is the purpose of the cover, isn't it? To lure in the audience...

The storyline in "The Ghost Beyond" was so very flaccid and mundane, and nothing much of anything worthwhile or remotely scary actually happened throughout the course of the movie. I managed to stick with the movie to the very end, in the hopes that it would start to pick up pace and become more interesting and more scary. It just never happened.

It should be said that the cast, albeit very small, did good jobs with their acting performances. It was just a shame that they were tied down and severely restricted by not having a proper storyline and script to work with.

As for the special effects, well don't expect to be bedazzled and blown away by what you see here. Sure, there are special effects, and they work well enough for their purposes, but for a movie made in 2018, then it just wasn't particularly spectacular.

All in all, not much to be had in "The Ghost Beyond" if you are a seasoned horror fan. I am sure that this movie will serve well for newcomers to the horror genre. Other than that, then there is very little to be had here...

I hope no one paid money to see this
stafford51816 November 2020
This movie could have been so much better. The storyline is decent but the acting, the filming, and the mother's telephone voice has got to go. I'm looking forward to a remake with a much bigger budget and with better actors.

not scary
jcroak-1817422 October 2020
I didn't really mind this movie, I knew it was low budget. My main problem was the mother, I really did not like her one bit. She acted like she knew everything and never listened to her son. She was just all that. could not stand her. The acting was better than other low budget movies, but not great. one reviewer said it was generic and that is true, but it's not that bad, give it a chance.

Horror? No.
ddquezergue12 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
So the ending was whack. I was entertained but mostly because I entertained myself making fun of the movie while watching. I gave it a generous 4 out of 10 despite the weak execution of the story. The acting wasn't horrible (except for the child actor), the look of the film was good and the leads were easy on the eyes.

I assume that Ali's father wasn't always a "lock your child in a chest" type dude, but something evil in the house changed him. This would explain the weird portion of the movie where Stanley turns into a drunken mean douche. But watching it was painful because it felt like a sad imitation of the Dad in the shinning.

Also... it wasn't scary. But if you want to watch, make it a drinking game. Every time someone says Johnny, you drink. Every time the Mom lies to Johnny...drink. Just don't drink every time you get scared because I'll stay sober.

Uninteresting, acting will make you cringe
cordelialeite10 October 2020
Beautiful place and house, at least from the outside...the idea is good (creepy dolls, a girl who died horribly haunts the place, etc) but the execution was bad. The movie was boring. Stopped watching at 30 minutes or so.

Loved It
rfieldj10 December 2018
When I was in college I took a few film courses with a professor named Harvey Flaxman. And Flaxman wrote the cult classic film, Grizzly. That was already a very old film, and a cult classic, by the time I got turned on to the genre. But ever since then, I love any and all films that fall under the umbrella of this genre. With that said, I liked The Ghost Beyond even more than most films I've seen lately in the genre. So many are sleepers it's hard to keep track (especially with so many choices on streaming TV nowadays), but as a fan of these films that aren't always the most commercial, I liked the story in TGB, I liked the setting, I liked the characters, and I found some of the camp elements endearing. There's a good deal of emotion, too. I also noticed that one of the stars, Trevor Donovan, stepped out of the romance film genre to do this, and I think he did an excellent job. The rest of the cast did well, too. So I think if people enjoy more non-commercial films like Grizzly and The Babadook, they'll like this as well.

Not scary and not creepy but anyway I enjoyed this low budget movie. I hope everyone won't spend money for this movie, it's not really good to watch...
