If this episode doesn't get an award, I'll eat my socks
heatsink9811 June 2018
Normally, I'm not a fan of backstories and flashbacks because they're usually boring and don't put characters in immediate danger. This episode is the exception.

We spend most of our time seeing through the eyes of Akecheta, the Ghost Nation warrior. He's not just a bit character anymore. He's been through the wringer during his life, as it were, in Westworld. The writing on this episode is so emotionally gripping that it's hard to remember he's a robot while we journey beyond his awakening and through the maze of consciousness. Key scenes are revealed as Akecheta comes to grips with personal loss brought on by Westworld's behind-the-scenes machinery. His story has been tightly intertwined with the other main characters the entire time, and we finally see how.

Best episode of the series so far
beany_jazz3 October 2018
I've found it a little tedious in the past with Westworld when they're jumping throughout the timelines (although I do understand it's for the story to be told in that way and keep viewers guessing).

However this is IMHO easily the best episode in the entire show. I've found Dolores has become rather boring as well, every time her and her gang are on screen now we just hear 'bang bang', it's a shame they couldn't have split her screen coverage with Akecheta.

Zahn McClarnon is an extremely gifted actor as well, definitely should've had more air time.

I only registered to rate this chapter
borchvm7 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Fascinating, touching, epic, simply a masterpiece. I decided to register with IMDB just to rate this chapter. For me it is the best WestWorld chapter by far. Where the search for truth, reality, love, the personality of this man and his tribe is mixed, to whom we were accustomed to see them until recently as violent ones. This chapter reveals his perspective, the perspective of Akecheta and his tribe of the Ghost Nation, with which you can not stop feeling things, while develop an exciting narrative that will leave you with the feeling of being before a masterpiece .

  • Contains spoiler -
I would like to mention that for me the best scene has been when the Indian Akecheta, sitting in the room of the WestWorl complex, leaks a tear.

Wow!!!
jwwalrath-227-8548711 June 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This might be the best episode of the show.

I expected to find out what the Ghost Tribe was up to and pretty much knew they'd already found consciousness, but I didn't see it coming that Akecheta was responsible for the maze; also, the revelation that a host managed to wander the park for over a decade without being caught. I'd worried that this episode might be too much of a filler episode, but it so masterfully tied into everything. More importantly, Akecheta's life and path to discovery is both tragic and fascinating.

Let's not forget all the emotional beats: Akecheta finding his wife, the other Native American woman finding her son's hair, Lee's heartfelt talk with Maeve, WIliam's daughter casually entering the Ghost Nation camping and coldly managing to persuade them, and the final revelation that the Tiribe is talking to Maeve and she knows her daughter is protected. All the feels!

Arguably the best episode through 2 seasons of WW
gdubtobes11 June 2018
This episode was the culmination of all 17 episodes previous. It felt as if every single frame produced by WW was designed to allow for this incredibly powerful 59 minutes of television. Extremely well written, superbly crafted, and carried by an incredible performance by Zahn McClarnon, Kiksuya is a movie on its own and WW's crowning achievement to date.

Amazing.
johnofardeal12 June 2018
After the "Riddle of the Sphinx" episode, I thought that peak Westworld was reached and - in my case - this was true. Then came this episode. At first it seemed to be a filler episode and I started to get frustrated. Man, was I wrong. Ake's journey - while heartbreaking and traumatizing - revealed what the awakening process really feels like. Just amazing. And the acting. Just great. Thank you for the episode.

Have you ever seen anything so full of splendor?
noalygh12 June 2018
Westworld tells the backstory of Akecheta and Ghost Nation as one of the most beautiful episode yet. It was such an amazing ride that goes on the storyline from both season 1 and 2 to explains more mysteries, and completes the multi-layer complications and meanings of the park. It is so good seeing Westworld not being puzzling but philosophical and profound once again. This episode was written meticulously artistic with memorable lines; editing was glamorous; the amazing soundtrack from Ramin Djawadi that comes into it with perfect timing, altogether making the episode highly impactful and emotional.

Wow. Simply wow
HarbingerUK15 June 2018
There have been gripping episodes, shocking episodes and episodes that have been a roller coaster. This was the most stunning, beautifully written, directed and acted episode of both seasons. The pathos of character is heartbreaking and the story within the story amazing. I'm simply blown away.

"Take my heart where it goes."

"This season is not only about people fighting, but the reason we fight: for our loved ones." -Lisa Joy

Wow. What an episode.

Honestly, I thought this episode would be like episode five. Just filler to add suspense to the finale. Boy, was I wrong!

Everything about this episode was meaningful and helped aid this complex narrative of Westworld. It answered many questions in Season 1 and 2.

The story was also beautifully written. Pacing was perfect. I never felt bored in looking at my TV in an hour. It was also a very emotional episode. Something very rare for Westworld, a show so deep... its goal isn't to make you cry, but gasp at the twists.

And of course, the performances. What really opened my eyes was Zahn McClarnon's performance as Aketcha. GIve him an award for conveying such a character.

Overall, perfect episode. I am excited to witness the last two episodes of this season.

Best yet

The answers begin to come. We learn the tragic backstory of the ghost warriors. We learn just how awful and twisted Westworld is, for the poor, newly (notsomuch) sentient hosts.

Easily the most moving episode of the season, perhaps the whole series!

Good, but.....
jacobstevenmillen4 August 2018
I liked this episode. It was definitely high quality, the visuals and cinematography were obviously great, as anyone who has watched it knows. The storyline was... well it was pretty good, although it was a bit too simple I think.

So why didnt I give this a 10/10 like most of the other reviewers? Its not because it was lacking in quality. If this had been part of an ongoing story and contributed to the overall plot of the season I would probably have given it a 9/10. However, a filler episode, even a good one, is still just filler.

This detracts from the pace of the season, adding what seems to be unnecessary information just to take up an episode. Yes, the little twist in the end was cool I guess, but was it really necessary? Does it really add anything to the overall season? I dont think so. Additionally, this episode is right near the end of the season, when the sorylines should be coming together towards a conclusion, not spreading out even more.

This isnt the only episode that had this problem. The whole season so far has suffered from less focus than the first season. While S1 seemed to know, at least a little bit, where it was heading (and boy, the payoff in the final 4 episodes was great), S2 seems to be meandering through different stories with unnecessary filler.

So to sum it all up-- yes, this is a good episode and I would recommend seeing it, but dont expect the season's storyline to move forwards much or you will be disappointed like I was.

Did I miss something?
cwg200011 June 2018
People are raving about this episode, but I watched it and I was bored out of my mind. How was this good? I finished it and thought to myself that they must've let the Walking Dead writers take a crack at it. I'll re-watch because chances are that I'm wrong if this many people are raving about it, but I'm dreading sitting through this bore of an episode again.

Show runners take note...
CinemaSlant11 June 2018
This is proof you don't need stars to create a beautifully written and filmed episode. I have felt this entire Season 2 has been one of confusion, lack of direction and too much emphasis placed on shooting everyone up. Mainly Evan Rachel Wood going all Rambo on everyone and everything. It's a bore and has become a rather tedious show to watch. However the writers of this episode have brought it back down to a clean, understandable (and relatable) story that highlights the emotional and simplicity of life in itself. This was superb. I just wish the entire season would have been like this.

Finally, the caliber we've been waiting for!
matthoffman-0042112 June 2018
At the start of the episode, I was weary. With only two episodes left after this one, I wasn't really interested in what appeared to be yet another plot line in an already complicated story. I wanted more answers and explanation for what has been happening this season. Instead, this episode helped me realize how much I actually wanted a break from all of that. The story of season two continues, but it is delivered in the most beautiful way. The subtlety, nuance, and brilliance of the first season's finale shines through in this episode - a much welcomed reprieve from the blunted directness of some earlier episodes. This is the writing and the acting that we've so eagerly anticipated since the end of the last season!

Touching and Beautiful Episode
anniec6212 June 2018
This episode was truly an experience. Not for any new reveals or twists. Just because it took me on a beautiful journey with Akecheta. This is the episode that connected me with the hosts. I have been viewing them more as things, but now I see them much more humanized. I was glued to the screen through the entire episode and when it was over, just sat and reveled silently in it staring at the screen while credits were rolling. And Heart Shaped Box ..... perfecto.

Easily the best episode of the series
rpg-4154512 June 2018
I have to agree with all the 10/10 ratings for Kiksuya. The more I watched the more I was drawn into the storyline. The main character was superb in conveying the angst in losing everyone and then starting to realize what was really going on in his world. I teared up on several occasions .

Super overrated episode
hnt_dnl28 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Kiksuya reminds me of all those manipulative movies with a lot of crying in them that wins Oscars, which is pretty much all of them! It's got some good emotion and a strong performance from Zahn McClarnon as Akecheta, but it feels like convoluted filler for the most part. So Logan somehow got stuck at the edge of the park after William sent him naked on a horse and went crazy? Seems thin. Logan could have just, oh I don't know, STOPPED the horse before it got there. We're supposed to believe Logan and William switched alpha-beta roles after just 1 visit. WHATEVER. And this Door nonsense sounds like a complete butt-pull by the writers. But let's get to the most absurd part of this episode: Akecheta roamed around the park for TEN whole years before anyone noticed there was this rogue host. And to top it all off, the writers pay homage to that dumb Season 1 Maeve-butchers subplot by repeating it in this episode with that female behavioral programming department head (a mashup of Bernard and Maeve) and earlier versions of Felix and Sylvester. Yes, just like the 2 cats, these 3 dodos actually decided not to report a rogue host to their higher ups and just let things play out. To hell with their jobs and careers. Ford really should have personally taken over the interview process at his park at some point! Oh, and of course the end of the episode has to tie to the overrated and annoying Maeve somehow because she's the be-all-end-all of all the hosts and Ford's favorite and the key to everything. GAG. And don't get me started on her "daughter". The director apparently just told the girl to look like she's constipated in every scene. So, basically, after an entire season of seeing the development of the 2 actual most important characters Dolores and Bernard, somehow in this random episode, the writers say, screw it, let's throw in some sob backstory of Ghost Nation and make Akecheta and Maeve somehow important to the plot. Now everyone is like "wow, this was the greatest hour of TV I've ever seen...EVER" even thought it feels about as connected to the main plot as Maeve and her deus ex machina nonsense. To hell with the much superior and entertaining episode Riddle of Sphinx from a few episodes earlier. Nope, this drivel is the episode everyone decides to drool over and will go down as the best of the entire series, even though it seems like some shoehorned episode from an entirely different series. Man, modern TV viewers are truly sheep.
