Emily Prentiss : Reid? A little good news. Backup is here.
Matt Simmons : Hey, Spencer.
Dr. Spencer Reid : Hey. Thank you for coming.
Clara Seger : Yeah, of course. Jack and me are finishing up a case in Costa Rica, so we hopped on a commercial plane to get here.
Matt Simmons : We're trying to stop your transfer to El Diablo.
Dr. Spencer Reid : Do you think it's possible?
Clara Seger : Yes. Lab reports on the vials came back. Some of what was in there hasn't been approved by the FDA, but there aren't any illegal substances.
-
Clara Seger : Is there anything else you remember about your time here?
Dr. Spencer Reid : I remember what happened to the vials at home. My mom threw most of them out.
Clara Seger : So that's why you were here. To get more.
Dr. Spencer Reid : It must be.
Matt Simmons : Well, you're off the hook for that. There was no contraband involved.
Clara Seger : Yeah, but we were still looking at the planted drug and murder charges, which could keep you here for a long time.
Emily Prentiss : So what can we do to delay the transfer?
Clara Seger : You said that you met Nadie, who calls herself Rosa, in Houston. Why didn't she just give you the vials in the U.S.?
Dr. Spencer Reid : I don't know. I don't know. But she helped us and I trusted her. I was right to. I still believe that.
Matt Simmons : Well, she convinced you to cross the border multiple times. She had you risk your life.
Clara Seger : Because she must have had something to lose, too.
Emily Prentiss : Like family.
Clara Seger : We need to know more about her.
-
Dr. Spencer Reid : I can't thank you enough.
Luke Alvez : Hey, it's all good, man. I'm just glad you sound like yourself again.
Dr. Spencer Reid : Me, too.
Emily Prentiss : Okay, so here's the deal that Cruz made. We can stop by the BAU when we land, but then we'll drive you into the district and take you to the federal jail.
[taking his handcuffs off]
Emily Prentiss : Since you are under investigation for murder, these cuffs are going to have to stay on until you are arraigned, but you're not a flight risk up here.
Dr. Spencer Reid : Thank you. Circulation's a wonderful thing.
Emily Prentiss : And the moment there's a chance for outside witnesses, these go back on.
Clara Seger : Have you talked to anyone about the legal team?
David Rossi : Yeah. Stephen Walker made some calls to the B.A.P. to get the best we can.
Matt Simmons : The B.A.P.'s a great group. You'll be in good hands.
David Rossi : Mark my words, kid. This whole thing's been a nightmare, but we're gonna get you out of this.
-
Matt Simmons : Well, thanks for the ride home.
David Rossi : Don't mention it. Commercial airlines kick my ass nowadays. You?
Matt Simmons : Once you've had the best, it's hard to go back.
Emily Prentiss : [approaching] I was just thanking Clara for helping us.
Clara Seger : Yeah, and I told her when one of us is in trouble, we all are. You guys have any other problems with this, we happen to know some people.
David Rossi : Love that.
-
Dr. Spencer Reid : What was in those vials?
Matt Simmons : Yeah. There are some nootropic compounds like Ampalex, uh, but also some more natural stuff; coral calcium, jimsonweed, coconut oil, a variety of vitamins; B12, D3.
Dr. Spencer Reid : Where are we right now?
Matt Simmons : Matamoros, northern Mexico.
Dr. Spencer Reid : Jimsonweed, otherwise known as the Devil's snare, originated in Mexico, but its natural growing region is further north or south of the border.
Emily Prentiss : Now that sounds like you.
-
Emily Prentiss : Garcia, we've got some questions.
Matt Simmons : Hey, Penelope.
Penelope Garcia : Oh, my god. It's the dulcet tones of Matt Simmons. Are you there to save the day?
Matt Simmons : I'm trying. Clara's here, too.
Penelope Garcia : [with a sigh of relief] Knowing we have you guys as backup is providing me with some much-needed hope and I work better this way.
-
Clara Seger : Hey, lady. We're trying to catch up on a few things.
Penelope Garcia : Shoot it at me.
Clara Seger : Where is Nadie Ramos from?
Penelope Garcia : Mm, she lives with her family just north of Matamoros.
Emily Prentiss : That must be where she got the jimsonweed.
Penelope Garcia : What's weird is she crosses the border, like, a lot.
Emily Prentiss : Why?
Penelope Garcia : Well, she works at that clinic in Houston. She also helps at a local healthcare center. I can't find a visa on her, which is double weird. And in finishing the weird trifecta, there's a Social Security number on her W-2 form.
Matt Simmons : Social Security? She's an American citizen?
Penelope Garcia : Yeah. She has dual citizenship. She was born in Houston, and her family had to move back to Mexico. She lives with them and she works in the U.S.
Emily Prentiss : Well, this changes everything, and we need to talk to the consulate.
Mario Casteneda : [entering] It's time for his transfer.
Emily Prentiss : We've had a break in the case. The victim was also American, and that calls for extradition.
Mario Casteneda : I've got orders. Sorry.
