Not a bad episode but there are a few issues.

Warning: Spoilers
Not a bad episode but there are a few issues. The first was the Chinese submarines... In every single shot during the episode the subs were on the surface. This is not impossible, but very stupid. In real life every submarine travels submerged, even if only at periscope depth. These submarines are moving in a first strike posture and there is no way they would be on the surface if this was real world. Even with the America SOSUS net it would still be difficult to track these Chinese subs when submerged. Obviously the Americans would want to track them and try and deter them from reaching optimal launch range against the west coast, and the Chinese would not want them to know where they are so it was not possible to deter them. ICBM's can be launched while submerged so why are the subs on the surface?

writers have given up

Warning: Spoilers
When a show begins on shaky ground, there is always a chance at a rebound, but it requires the writers to recommit. In some cases it requires the writers to reinvent the original subject. In this case? Its time to promote the writers out the door!

The only thing this show has going for it is the name & ambition to tackle preposterous story lines. But the lack of actual science is unforgivable, and makes epic story lines (like in this episode) more comedic than dramatic.

Nowhere is this more evident than in the *Spies Like Us* direct rip-off ending (including a human live wire, and a missile re-directed into space, away from its target). That is what this show has become - story lifts from 80's Chevy Chase movies?

"MacGyver"'s XXI century iteration is doing one step forward two steps backs, ending on middle ground, getting more and more pointless by episode. On the good side, we seem to have stopped with the extraction- mission formula (even if the plot still makes the team travel around the world and repeats more or less the same situations). On the double bad side, we are getting more and more Bozer's servings. The character is one of the most annoying ever (not helped by Justin Hires's overacting) and his presence everywhere does not help the series (at least in the previous episode there was a reason for him to be there). And with close to zero MacGyver's identity (no inventions, no science, nothing that makes it resemble the spirit of the old "MacGyver"'s series), this is another episode with an empty soul.
