heartbreaking and compassionate

Convoluted juxtapositions of guilt, spurring webs of lies and masking and unmasking. With mastery storytelling Under the Smokey Roof is an emotional & suspensful human drama. Pouran Derakhshandeh showcases his ability to weave simple, everyday-life stories into intricate moral labyrinths whose social and political themes, rich on empathy, mystery, tension and paranoia, paint a nuanced and incisive portrait of contemporary Iranian culture that feels intimate, tangible, and breathtakingly immersive.

Under the smoky roof ... Iranian's everyday complicated lives!

This movie is a nice depiction of that situation where the emotional bound of a few people together is not only negative but also destructive. The art of this movie is that it shows the story from the perspective of different people who are differently affected with the unpleasant condition. They live with each other while they don't have any commonality to share, just like being total strangers to each other. The problems roots from lack of communication or being scared to talk about the needs which shows in two complete different forms: either too much love, or too much ignorance! Lack of communication and affection between a father and a son, because of excessive attention of the mother to the son since childhood; Lack of communication and affection between the spouse because of dedicating the love only to the kids and forgetting about the husband or the wife; Or because of finding love somewhere else instead of standing and trying to solve the problem; Lack of communication and affection between the mother and the son because of the son being tired of the whole situation and considering his mother as one of the main reasons for the mess! People are very tired and not motivated to solve their problems because unfortunately they are living under the smoky roof ...!
