Kevin Hart is partnering with STXfilms to produce on a pair of comedy movies through his HartBeat Productions with an eye to star in both projects, Variety has learned exclusively.
The announcement comes on the heels of Hart’s solid box office performance in “The Upside,” in which he co-stars with Bryan Cranston. Stx’s comedic drama, co-produced with Lantern Entertainment, topped expectations by opening in first place at the North American box office and has generated $47 million in its first 11 days of release.
“Stx came in to make ‘The Upside’ the success it is. Their strategy, execution and collaborative approach are perfectly aligned with HartBeat Productions’ values,” said Hart. “It was an easy ‘yes’ when they pitched us two new ideas to produce together.”

Kevin Hart is in talks to star in Lionsgate and Hasbro’s Monopoly live-action movie, which he will also produce through his HartBeat Productions label.
Tim Story is in final negotiations to direct the film and also produce through his Story Company banner. HartBeat’s John Cheng will also produce and oversee the pic with Carli Haney. Story Company president Sharla Sumpter Bridgett will produce as well.
Lionsgate and Hasbro have been attempting to produce a Monopoly movie since 2015, when they hired Andrew Niccol (“The Truman Show”) to write the screenplay about a boy from the game’s Baltic Avenue embarking on a quest to make a fortune.
Hasbro will co-produce the untitled film through its Allspark Pictures label. Hasbro’s Brian Goldner, Stephen Davis, and Greg Mooradian will serve as producers.

Exclusive: Lionsgate and Hasbro’s live-action feature Monopoly is passing Go with Kevin Hart set to star and the actor’s Ride Along collaborator Tim Story due to direct. The hot package, inspired by the iconic board game, is in final negotiations, I understand.
Hart, John Cheng and Carli Haney will produce for Hart’s HartBeat Productions label. Story and Prince Of Peoria exec producer Sharla Sumpter Bridgett will produce for The Story Company. Hasbro is co-producing via its Allspark Pictures label with the company’s Brian Goldner, Stephen Davis and Greg Mooradian serving as producers.

Emilia Serrano will write and executive produce, with Johnson serving as co-executive producer in addition to starring. Hart will executive produce via his HartBeat Productions along with HartBeat’s John Cheng. Carli Haney of HartBeat will produce.
