Racy, Funny and intriguing, this was a real winner.

I've been slightly critical of some of the recent episodes, but The Crimson Feather was, I thought bang on the money. The case itself was intriguing and fun. Bunty had her best episode by a mile, and the humour levels were off the scale. From the very beginning the episode was different, almost unique, somewhat racy. I can imagine Bunty's act causing extra intrigue at half two in the afternoon, but Emer Kenny was brilliant. Arguably Mrs McCarthy's finest moment also, her stage act was absolutely hilarious, as was the closing scene with Father Brown, such a nice moment.

The show often manages to be lighthearted and entertaining, this episode left us all with a smile on our face, brilliant fun.

Bunty's burlesque

Warning: Spoilers
Bunty is at her best and finest in The Crimson Feather, when she infiltrates a "gentleman's club" which Mallory enjoys visiting in his spare time, I guess as a respite from his wife and kids and the demanding police beat. Anyway, Father Brown also infiltrates the club and ensures not to be morally compromised in his pursuit of the murderer.

I'm enjoying catching up on Father Brown for daytime viewing. I do miss Lady Felicia and Sid, and it's a shame there was no spin-off series for them set in Rhodesia. Maybe there's still time but who knows. I was surprised to learn recently that Mark Williams, who plays Father Brown, has a semi-cockney accent along the lines of Michael Caine's "She was only 16!".

The Crimson Feather

Warning: Spoilers
Cor Blimey I wish the BBC gave me a warning before the show started that Bunty would be appearing dressed as a showgirl. My blood pressure shot through the roof.

Just a few weeks after the Grantchester Christmas special where the vicar was seen at a strip club now it is Father Brown's turn as Mrs McCarthy discovers her god-daughter Joselyn working as a burlesque dancer at the Crimson Feather club which also has some girls offering extras.

When Father Brown goes to the club he finds the dead body of another dancer, Verity and the doorman Jarek bending over her body. He is arrested for murder. Bunty goes undercover as a burlesque dancer to help Father Brown prove Jarek his innocence and they discover Verity was far from popular.

A rather racy episode for the afternoon with some added forbidden love, Mrs McCarthy provides the laughs as she also goes undercover in the club as a cleaner.
