A clever episode, just too many laughs
Sleepin_Dragon5 March 2018
Last episode Father Brown was arrested, this week it's Inspector Mallory, and all I could think was throw away the key, although Jack Deam was better in this episode, he seemed to be taking it more seriously.

A few too many frivolous moments, Father Brown's peering over the bushes to listen in on Agnes and Daniel's conversation was bordering on hilarious. Mrs McCarthy's hiding behind the sofa came a close second.

The story itself was very clever and well executed, the guest performers were excellent, Maria Gale and David Yelland in particular, both took it very seriously, more so then the regulars.

I love that music box.

This could have been excellent if it had just been taken a little more seriously. 7/10

All the small things

Warning: Spoilers
Agnes Lesser is very diabolical as the central character in The Smallest of Things, and I kind of wondered, what if she herself was the perpetrator after all. I'm no script writer but well, you have to watch this episode to believe it. Anyway, The Smallest of Things reminded me of Sybil starring Sally Field ages ago, before she played Forrest Gump's mom.

The dioramas in this episode were very impressive and all credit to the artists who created them. They were very atmospheric for sure. I'm enjoying catching up on the episodes of Father Brown I haven't watched, along with Magnum, P. I. and Law and Order.

Gripping but heavy going
coltras3519 April 2022
Father Brown investigates the macabre world of dollhouse crime scenes. Agnes who creates them thinks her mother's accident was murder, presumably committed by her father, but Father Brown unravels the case and childhood trauma has a lot to do with it. It's a well-scripted, gripping with some psychological aspects, however it can be a bit too tragic. Heavy going at times. Bunty, inspector Mallory( he's so funny) and Mrs McCarthy lighten things a bit.

The Smallest of Things
Prismark1014 August 2018
Inspector Mallory can be so sleazy, in this episode he gazes at a window as a lady does a mini striptease. She also happens to be the wife of a decorated policeman Wilber Lesser, whose first wife was found dead some years earlier falling down the stairs.

Agnes Lesser his surviving daughter makes Doll's Houses, dioramas of murder scenes which earns her a commendation. She has invited certain people including Father Brown and Chief inspector Webb, who investigated the original death to a gathering to go through the days of her mother's death. She wants to find the truth, not matter where it leads to. Her father is less than happy about these turn of events.

Webb makes his dislike for Mallory very clear as they have crossed swords in the past. When Webb is found dead, Mallory is arrested for his murder, luckily his peeping Tom act saves him from the gallows.

This is a mystery about hidden childhood trauma, it has a psychological dimension to it which the viewer could probably figure out.
