Long unseen documentary on the rise of communism
kevinolzak26 April 2020
The 1962 documentary "We'll Bury You!" was independently produced as "The Challenge" by Jack Thomas and Jack Leewood and narrated by William Woodson, before being picked up for distribution by Columbia. Detailing the history of communism and/or socialism in the West, we start from Karl Marx and his Communist Manifesto through Vladimir Lenin, Anastas Mikoyan, Leon Trotsky, Josef Stalin, Georgy Malenkov, Nikita Krushchev, Mao Zedong, and Fidel Castro. Newsreel footage and photographs tell the story, and its release coincided with the Cuban Missile Crisis, boosting ticket sales at the start but quickly tapering off, though Hedda Hopper offered high praise for Columbia's handling. It probably wouldn't pass muster for today's audience, if a print ever turns up.
