Hugely atmospheric.

Definitely more happening in this second episode than in the first, with some actual occurrences, including a meeting with the Inuit, and an encounter with.....something.

The major strength continues to be the atmosphere, it is astonishing, the music, production values, and tone all help to give a sense of terror and foreboding.

We are learning more about the crew, and the strange dynamic that exists between the two Captains.

I enjoyed this, 7/10.

Slow burning atmosphere

A slow burner with tons of atmosphere is how I'd describe this creepy effort so far. A few action bits and some bloodshed but generally it's a mix of character work and building tension quietly. The visuals are outstanding and made me wish that a Lovecraft adaptation had been done with this level of finesse and budget.

Gore

After the first episode which was more scene setting and establishing characters.

There is more action and tension in the second. A party out on the ice mistakenly shoot an Inuit man, but then something attacks the men. Some kind of creature maybe.

There is a step up in gear and the character moments are more important as well. Sir John trying to rekindle the friendship he once had with Crozier. He even goes to see Crozier to apologise.

Crozier is not the only Irishman on the ship who has found that his background can be a hindrance.
